Cat Positioning With Ppe Headers And Borla 'cat Back' Exhaust

Recommended Posts

Hi Crew,

Ive purchased a Borla cat back exhaust and PPE headers and wanted to get peoples opinions (those who have done it or know someone that has done it) on where the position the CATS.

See the PPE headers remove the cats, and the BORLA exhaust doesnt have any - if you're mating it up with standard headers this isn't an issue.

Some people say to install the cats on the headers themselves - but then i think, PPE would have made an option like this if it was intended to be positioned there, i don't really want to cut up a beautiful header, plus an image on their website makes it look like it is welded in like 10cm after the flange where the headers and the exhaust connect.

Thanks in advance for all your assistance/advice.

Alex

I have the same setup installed by Lexus of Chatswood and while I am only a driver not a mechanic I believe the cats were removed. Sounds mean.

ps.: if you decide to add the cats back on (if you can) you will lose power sort defeating he purpose:

Thanks for the feedback ISFBloke.
Whilst i would like to do this, its HIGHLY illegal in Australia (and in the US for theta matter) - fine if caught is close to $10k!!!

For the 15hp loss -id rather be safe.

There is also a very different smell when the car doesnt have cats - not a good or a bad smell, but different and more potent - a cluey cop will pick this up and send you over the pits.

Very strange that Lexus of Chatswood would do such a thing.

Is there any chance i maybe able to meet you up to have a listen to the set up?

It would be much appreciated man.

I am around the Chatswood area

Cheers,
Alex

Well mine doesn't smell different at all and is quiet with the Borla off so it must have the cats then. Lexus wouldn't do anything illiegal I am sure of that. Sure happy to have you check it out. Send me a pm.

  • 5 months later...

For cats to work properly (and get rid of the smell) they need to be as close to the engine as possible, so in your case you would want to bolt them onto the end of the headers, then bolt the rest of he exhaust onto the cats.

Presumably you will need to cut the front of the Borla system by the same length as the cats take up in order for everything to line up again...
