LEXUS RACE CAR DEBUT FOR 2017 SUPER GT SERIES
Testing of the new Lexus LC 500 race car is due to start later this month and will make its race debut in Japan’s Super GT series during the next year when it will replace the RC F in the race series.
The race car version has therefore been substantially modified for racing purposes, including the fitment of an enhanced aerodynamic package, weight reduction measures and a bespoke race-spec powertrain. Imposing bodywork for the LC 500 race car features hugely widened fenders and skirts, large spoiler and rear diffuser and multiple vents for downforce and heat extraction. These features enhance the flagship coupe’s aerodynamic shape, dramatic curves and wide, imposing stance while retaining the distinctive Lexus spindle grille and L-shaped lights.
The lightweight (minimum weight of 1,020kg) race car will be powered by a 2.0-litre direct-injection four-cylinder turbocharged engine driven through a six-speed sequential gearbox.
