  1. An older thread, but I'm looking to adding a 3rd party rear-seat DVD unit myself. I've got a few friends who own Klugers, and for what it's worth - they've advised me that the headrest units are much better than the overhead units. Problem with overhead units is that the kids end up with crook necks, having to bend their neck backwards to view the screen. And from what I gather, there's a restriction on how far down the overhead unit can come down (makes sense, as too low - and it starts impeding your rear vision mirror view). Head units are much better – but there’s a small problem… you need someone qualified to actually tear a hole in the headrest or you buy a compatible headrest fitted with a screen. And that’s only the start of it – wiring, making sure it’s compatible with your front unit, turning off safety screen etc… Either way, it’s an expensive exercise ;)
  2. Thanks for all the quick replies. Will check with the dealer on a few of the issues. Soon as you press "Transfer Contacts" on the cars screen it will disconnect for phone calls ready to reconnect for data transfer. You need to select "all contacts" probably in the advanced options under phone book in your phone. Not all phones have the ability of sending all contacts but I know the Samsung F480 can. Have another go at it & if after that you get stuck I can PM you my number and talk you thru it. I'll give that a go. Usually - you transfer while in BT mode. Guess it's a bit different with the Lexus. Thanks for that tidbit. Just another question - how many Kms are you getting out of a full tank of petrol? Sydney metro here, and I'll be interested to see what consumption it runs at. Hoping to get at least 450~500kms from a full tank - am I being optimistic here?
  3. I opt for premium unleaded, but I've got a work fuel card that pays my fuel bills. From the many arguments I've read regarding different fuel grades, premium advocates argue that you get better performance, more kms from a full tank & generally better for your car's engine. Cons are that premium is almost 10~12cents more expensive per litre (approx $8~9 more expensive per tank). I'd be interested to see if there's concrete data for whether or not E10/regular unleaded damages the engine or not.
  4. Hello. New to the forums, but glad to see there's a 'support' group for newbie Lexus owners ;) Picked up an 07 RX-350, and definitely enjoying the ride so far :) Three quick questions. 1. Uploading Phonebook - I'm having troubles uploading the phone book for some reason. Got BT working OK (although just another blurb here - but do people find that the BT sometimes doesn't pick up when you first enter the car, with you having to manually connect?) - but when I go into phone book and try to upload my contacts, I get 'BT disconnected' on my phone and nothing happens. Any advice on what I'm doing wrong? Phone is a Samsung 480. 2. Autolocking doors - I've read that this feature is available for the car, but how do I activate it? 3. Automatic boot - Perhaps I'm missing something here, but I cannot open the boot with the remote UNLESS all the doors are unlocked. Dealer mentioned that the boot button has to be pressed down for 3~5seconds. But I've found that when the car is locked, button won't work no matter how long you hold the button down for. You actually have the open the door, unlock all the doors and THEN press the button/open the boot manually. I take it I'm doing something wrong here? Apologies for the silly questions, but I'm hoping to find some answers ;) Cheers in advance.
  5. There are lots of good waxes and ultimately it will depend on how much you want to spend. Meguiars and Mothers are good mid-range products. Dodo, Swissvax, Pinnacle, Chemical Guys, Zymol are all high end waxes. Swissvax make a specific wax for Japanese Paints called Samurai @$129 Indeed. There's a huge range of car care products on the market - most of the good stuff, not available by your mainstream channels. Really depends on how much time and effort you want to put into detailing your car + your budget. If you can only afford 1~2hours, approx 1~2 times a month - I'd recommend Meguiars/Mothers products. Your basic kit will probably set you back around $80~$100 all up, which includes a wool/microfibre mitt for washing, car shampoo, buckets, chamois (for drying), wax/polish, microfibre cloth (for buffing) and tyre cleaner. Set procedure: 1. Wash car (with shampoo) 2. Dry car off with chamois 3. Apply Wax/Polish and buff off If you're really looking to get into car care, then the sky's the limit. As LexusAussie mentioned, there are definitely 'higher grade' products which in theory - give better results for your car. Only just getting into detailing myself, on average atm - it takes me approx 3~4 hours minimum to wash my car. Products alone cost me in the vicinity of $400. Some might argue that it's a waste of money/time - it's all personal. Reasons why I went for better products + more work into the car was because I'd purchased a new car (arguably, the biggest toy/fashion item you'll have so why not take care of it! ;)), not to mention the fact that I was sick of having to pay $70+ for a decent car wash (both inside + out). $400 for car care products might seem really expensive, but when you factor in a full detail will cost you $100+, then it doesn't seem to bad. But there's nothing like a long hard days work, and having your car sparkle!
