  1. It's Australian law, ie, you can't legally register a car if the DVD player (or any moving screen for that matter I believe) can operate when the hand brake isn't engaged. However, my father-in-law (Japanese) has an older car that lets you watch TV, DVDs, etc while the car is driving. Now in Japan all new cars have the hand brake system applied. On a side note, did you know in Japan you don't need to wear a seat belt if you're sitting in the back seats? I think the cut off for the sat nav keyboard is when your speed exceeds 5km? Something like that... anyway, you can appreciate how dangerous it would be for a driver to be dicking around with his satnav and not focusing on the road. I saw a hack for around $350 that lets you get around it, not sure if I'm prepared to spend that kind of money. Dono
