  1. My IS200 is my daily car. Currently getting great fuel economy. 90% city driving, I'm getting 9.1L/100KM most weeks. Very consistent 9.1L to 9.3L/100KM. I can never seem to get it to 9.0L/100KM (doing the same route), unless I obviously do more highway KM. My car is 100% stock, regularly maintained. 6 speed manual. Running Shell V-Power 98, stock 16" rims, Mobil Semi-syn 10w-40 engine oil. No extra load in my car other than my satnav and a rain jacket :P
  2. - Change all your coilpacks - once one coil pack goes, the other coilpacks will die too. - I'm on the assumption your engine is the 1G-FE. Check your throttle position sensor and accelerator position sensor (both same part numbers). They are on the throttle body assembly.
  3. That's normal. I'm not saying the extractors don't or do help, but that little "kick" you described is normal. That's the valve timing being adjusted (VVTi) for higher RPM.
  4. Yep. IS200 (1G-FE) is slow. Some things to consider though. - If you decide to buy an IS200, make sure it's a manual so you can take advantage of every last KW. - Nothing wrong with an auto, but it will be more slower than the manual version. - Excellent handling and braking. - IS200 is quite economical on fuel. (Mine is doing 9.1L/100, using Shell V-Power 98, car is stock, 6MT, and regularly serviced, ~80% urban driving). - Servicing is affordable, anyone familiar with Toyota will have no issues working on them. - IS300 (2JZ-GE) is the better option if you want more power and torque - most come in auto. - If you are real keen on sporty driving RS200 JDM (3S-GE) is also something to consider - just be prepared to really row through the gears. my 2c :)
  5. What's wrong with semi syn? (As in why should it be avoided?) Stock 1G-FE is nothing special. Obviously the 3S-GE is the more superior and high reving engine needing fully syn oil. I use semi syn (obviously fully syn is better), with no issues and it seems to do an adequate job for daily driving. Currently using Mobil 10w-40 Semi Syn I used to use Castrol 10w-40 Magnatec (semi-syn)
