This wheel wobble, which is a vertical wobble and is extremely violent requiring the car to be brought to a halt, is only intermittent, meaning once every 12 months or so. In the meanwhile the car drives perfectly, not a shake, wobble or vibration of any kind whatsoever. When it first originated 12 months ago (June 2016) I took it to a tyre retailer, Jax, in Bondi Junction NSW who performed a wheel balance on both front wheels, and a full wheel alignment. I then had trouble free driving for 12 months until now, June 2017. This current exact same wobble came out of nowhere and I stopped the car. I then drove on without any wobble whatsoever and have driven about 500 km since then without any wobble. Does anyone have a clue as to what this "mystery wobble" is? Particularly, as it only visits me now and again. Although the car is 25 years old, it has only done 126,000 km and is in perfect mechanical condition. I would welcome any input from the club or elsewhere if you have some idea what it could be. Thanks.

Good luck with that. If you go to Lexis (in Sydney) thaey will want to book it in and try and charge you anywhere between $400 and $800.

I have a 1992 LS400 and have had it since new, 22 years. The LS400 is an exceptional motor car and the motor is without a doubt its greatest feature, virtually trouble free for 22 years. The biggest cost I have ever had related to the mechanical side of the car was with what is called the idler valve for power steering. It's an added feature on the LS400 but not need in anyway. When it started leaking it caused huge amounts of white smoke to come out of the exhaust pipes. Found a solution on this website and had it fixed for $130. I have NEVER spent a penny on the motor other than routine maintenance and I certainly DON'T use Toyota or Lexus for that, way too expensive. I have probably under-used my Lexus running up only 110,000 city km in 22 years. Only had the breaks done for a first time last year. You have to watch the front tyres on a LS400 as they can chop out quite quickly if they get out of alignment. The only reason I have kept this car for so long, three times as long as any other car, is the fact that I've never seen anything like it for value for money, considering I paid $115,000 for it 1992, that would be around $300,000 today. Buy a Lexus - you will not regret it so long as it's reasonably low km's.

I have owned a LS400 simce new in 1992, best motor car I've ever owned and that includes BMWs and Jaguar XJS (say no more). I've only done 105,000km which is extremely light for a '92 LS400, so the engine is as solid as the day I bought it, in fact it is unbeleivable. Have had few mechanical problems, none whatsoever in the engine, just a leaking power steering idle valve which was fixed by eliminating it for $130 and it made no difference to the steering. I doubt there is a car to match the LS400 for quality of finish and performance, the inside of mine (light tan leather) looks the same as the day I bought it and I'm not dastidious about looking after a motor car. The one thing you DON'T do with a Lexus after it's out of warranty, is take it anywhere near a Lexus dealer, they rob you blind.

Put the window down to get out of a parking station and low and behold it would not go back up. This was on Friday 19/4 at 3.00pm. Drove into the Lexus service area in Sydney and they said $780 to supply and fit a new one. But wait for it - 3-4 weeks delivery time from Japan. Yeah right, 3-4 weeks on street parking parking in Sydney in April/May, you have to be kidding. No deal, but then I haven't used these robbers for years for exactly the same reason. Contacted a Japanese spare parts dealer in the western suburbs who supplied and fitted a completely reconditioned regulator unit for $320 on Saturday 20/4 and I was on my way in foul weather within one hour - no wonder I don't use Lexus.

The radio in my 1992 LS400 has an unusual problem, in that it only works when it feels like it. In other words, it usually does not work (99%) when i get in an turn on the ignition, but may come on within 10-15 minutes after driving, but not neccessarily so. I installed a new arial a couple of years back and it worked perfectly for a year before developing this unusual habit. There doesn't appear to be any particular reason why it comes on when it does, as to location or area etc, it can be anywhere at any time. Does anyone have any idea what this is. Prior to the radio playing up, the CD player also gave out without any notice, not something you expect to lose in a Lexus, both the radio and the CD player.

Is there an explanation as to why the radio in a '92 LS400 just stops working? Was working fine one day, not the next, a mystery. Has anyone experienced a similar experience? The CD player stopped about a year ago, I sort of understand how something like that might decide to stop playing, but a radio - can't figure that one? Any input would be welcome. Thank you.

Has any LS400 owner in Sydney experienced this problem of blocked sunroof drain tubes? Trying to find somewhere where I can get them cleaned by a mechanic that has done it before, or a good descritption of how to do it myself. Any input would be appreciated.
