  1. Thanks for the info John but unfortunately (for me) you're about a year too late. I paid approx $520 for a new smart key all done by Lexus of Melbourne as nobody could convince me that using a used fob was possible - I wasn't convinced and thought that it could be done but bit the bullet. I'd understand if someone told me that there was some data written to the key/fob and it was a write-once chip but couldn't get the info I needed at the time and didn't want to risk losing or damaging the only smart key that I had. For the sake of others in the same dilemma that I was I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has had a used remote programmed to an IS250 ('07 - '14 era). Who did it? costs? etc. I'd be more interested to hear from others who did it themselves!
  2. Has anyone found a fix to this that doesn't involve changing over the entire motor assembly? I've got an '07 IS250 and the left mirror does not move up or down, it wiggles about when I try presumably because the gears are shredded. The right mirror works so that rules out the switch. I'm not afraid of completely stripping it and replacing gears but want to know if it's a common problem (which it appears to be) and there are cheap aftermarket parts which I can buy and have on-hand before I pull it all apart. Alternatively, can I rip out the motor and still reassemble the mirror in a fixed position so I can work on fabricating parts whilst keeping the car on the road? I've just done some more Googling and it appears as though each mirror has a pair of small motors with worm gears and a corresponding disc shaped gear. If this is the case I think I should be able to reassemble it without these components while I search for the correct gears. I'm also hoping that these are suitable replacement parts for the IS250... http://www.hongmei.com.tw/cat/lexus/power-mirror-repair-parts-2/ Thanks
  3. So can you add a USB port to an older (2007 sports luxury in my case) audio system? How about upgrade the Bluetooth to support A2DP so I can play music streamed from my phone?
  4. Thanks for that useful info I CU2. Have you personally added a new key? If so where did you purchase it from? What part would I need given the info I provided? If I can't remove an old key/fob easily then will that old key continue to work if the previous owner finds it?? How many fobs can one car pair with? I have a cheap ODBII tool but not Techstream, I presume I can get a torrent. If I can get a new key/fob for cheap then I'll consider doing it myself. Sorry to bombard you with questions.
  5. Sorry I didn't mean to sound blunt but I've seen a few posts which I'm certain are inaccurate. The topic is confusing enough as is without members guessing or going off unproven perceptions. So Sockeye, I believe you got a new fob and OBDII. How did you go with it?
  6. Hi all, There's so much info all over the net but hard to piece it all together. I too have a 2007 IS250 with only one fob/key and need a backup fob. I've got a stack of questions that I'd love answered only if you're 100% certain of the answer... In this thread there's talk of frequencies changing due to replacing of parts under warranty. What was the old and which is the new frequency? Is the only difference between the fobs the crystal and if so can't it be replaced? I have a remote with has the word HOLD on it, is this new or old? My crystal reads 31435, is this a 315Mhz transmitter/fob/SmartAccess? Given the above info what part number would I require? There's also talk of users using an OBDII tool to perform the programming themselves. Has anyone actually done this? Apparently the pairing between fob and car writes info to the fob, has anyone worked out how to clear this data to make old fobs new/blank again? Basically there seems to be a lot of talk but nobody is coming forward with their good or bad news stories. I'd love to hear both sides so I can decide which path I take - Lexu$ or DIwhy did I Thanks in advance
