  1. For those interested I finally had a fix for the vibration issues. A damper has been fitted to the rear end this combined with a ECU upgrade has all but eliminated the issue.
  2. Hi Guys, I know it is a late reply but just to put my 2 cents in I owned an E46 BMW and found it to be totally unreliable from Brand New and yes it was built in Germany. I also found the servicing department no where as good as Lexus. I was told that once you buy a Lexus there is a very high percentage that you will buy another one. I am one of those people and am on my second Lexus and would not consider any european vehicle.
  3. Hi diesmile good to see you have done your homework. The resonance occurs at approx 80 k per hour and at approx 1200 rpm. when you are cruising . It sonds like having a manual in a gear too high for the speed.I have found in the UK where a lot of 300h are sold there is a high number of instances. Check Lexus Is300h owners club and you will find a couple of forums. Before you purchase see if they will give you a car for the day. I had this offer to me but at that stage i was looking to purchase less expensive vehicle. Be patient when you are trying to see if resonance is present because once you change your rpm it goes away. It comes and goes when your are on the mentioned speed. I must say though if you are looking for a powerful performance hybrid test drive the Infinity Q50 it returns approx 7 L/ 100k and blows off the 350. Dont know about reliability or resale. Good luck
  4. hi guys i have been following this topic because i own a IS 300h luxury with EP2. I might be able to brief you on the car. If you are to get one make sure you drive both models F and Luxury. Personally i could not bring myself to the F sport as i see no use for the sports suspention and bigger wheels on a car with lack lustre performance. This car is made for saving fuel by driving it very slow. I drive in Sydney traffic everyday and I cannot better 5.7 L/100 k and let me tell you this is in eco mode and driving like an old woman. Make sure you put it through its paces so you are not disappointed as I am. I have found out the following after 14 K. 1. It has a resonance issue (no fix at present) 2. It has resonable take off in sports mode but the CVT holds it back. Floor it and there is like a massive flatspot. 3. Whilst driving at approx 30k/h floor it and you go nowhere because it does not gear down it wants to wind up until you reach your speed. 4. The brakes just take getting used to but when you are driving slow and brake easy the brakes are really grippy and stop well, however if you jump on them they do stop but it is like there is a delay for a split second before they grip. 5. Drive heavy footed in sports mode and you may as well get an IS 350 because it can burn some petrol. End of the day it is built for easy economical driving. If you want more power and save some costs the 250 drives heaps better but the 350 is the one. It is worth the extra cash and petrol consumption. As for BMW alternative well i owned one once and never again due to reliability. I hope this helps.
  5. For anyone interested i had confirmation there is no fix for the resonance so whoever is interested in this model make sure you test drive at the pre mentioned speed and revs.
  6. BMW is the reason i bought a Lexus. My BM was a 318 E46 "German made" and i purchased Brand new. It is easily by far thr most unreliable vehicle i have owned and in the 6th year of ownership it cost me 12K in repairs. You dont want to know what the previous 5 years cost. Service is crap compared to Lexus. Dont stress you bought the right car. Amazing thing was after i got rid of it all these people i met with BMs had pretty ordinary reliability stories to tell.
  7. Hey guys i also had the egg smell on my 2008IS. The smell is the sulphur in the unburnt fuel into the cat. I tried all the different fuels but that is not the answer this was the Lexus statements from the service to avoid having to replace the cats as you guess they would have had to change a lot of catalytic convertors. Go to exhaust specialist for solution.
  8. I recently sold a 2008 is250X which had the rattle but if memory serves me correct I think this might have been a recall. I know Lexus fixed the rattle issue twice on my vehicle at no cost over a couple of year period. Check to see if this is a recall because they will probably fix it. By the way When I sold the 250X it had 130,000 k's and the rattle was starting to happen again so what ever they did to it did not appear to be a permanent fix.
  9. Not as yet. I am hoping to get more info ASAP. But Resonance did appear on the Lexus IS300h owners club in the UK. A lot of people seem to be having this issue in europe, one owner went back to Lexus and the technician drove his is300h and then took a demonstrator is300h from the showroom and both cars had the resonance. I think more vehicles are exposed to the resonance in the UK because most purchases are company vehicles and tend to drive on freeways which allow them to hit between 85 and 95 k/h which exposes the issue. Living in Sydney 95% of my driving is traffic and below 70 k/h so I have experienced it twice only. Might go and test it over the weekend and get exact revs and speeds. Keep you posted.
  10. Latest update. Went to Lexus dealer and the term given to me for the vibration is RESONANCE. Lexus have had somebody else with this issue a while ago. I will be contacted for an explanation when they retrieve info. Stay tuned if you have an IS 300h and experiencing RESONANCE.
  11. Hi Spec it definitely is not the tyres or balance. My brothers a mechanic and even he is at a loss. The vibration is like driving on a coarse road and the sound actually is like a booming sound and it only happens between the revs of 1200 to 1300 and a speed between 85 and 90. Once you vary the revs it goes away and when you hit that mark again it comes back. Doing more research it turns out even one of the complaints on the UK site is from a retired mechanical engineer from Australia who is having the same issues and he thinks there is a manufacturing issue. This has also stumped the Lexus people in One Scandinavian country. Anyway it is not an issue day to day driving but I will head tolocal dealer to talk to them and see what they come up with.
  12. Whilst travelling between 85 - 95 k/h at approx 1200 rpm the vehicle developed a vibration and increase in noise within the car. At first i thought it was the road surface on the freeway but after a few kilometers it was evident this was not the case. The vibration and noise seem to disappear if you accelerate or slow down. After some research on the UK is 300h club this appears to be a common problem with this vehicle. Does any one have the same issue and have you had it resolved?
  13. I work in the Graphics industry where a lot of people have their vehicles wrapped. Just remember if you decide to go down the path of having anything covered by Vinyl, the longer it stays on the vehicle the more likely it will leave an adhesive residue on the surface if it is removed. Also remember vinyl will deteriorate with time. Make sure you get all the facts.
