  1. Hi everyone I am closer and closer to purchasing a 2nd hand Lexus IS250. I do have some questions that I absolutely need to have answered. Hopefully I can get some help here. 1. Buying a 2008 Lexus IS250 with around 120.000KM. 2nd Hand. Would this be too much? If it is too high guys, its fine, tell me it is too high and i shall start looking for others. However if it is not too high, then tell me that. Tell it like it is. 2. Read from whirlpool forum "The Lexus also changed their piston designed in 2010 as earlier models were prone to carbon build up and as they get older some of them burn large amounts of oil. Problems usually arise at the 100k km mark too – it's documented on Lexus forums." This kinda scares me. What I am looking at is 2008, with more than 100k KM. So does this mean it is a bad decision to buy it? 3. I understand fuel costs are ok. However, is it true that servicing costs for minor service can be about $500? And this is done every what, twice a year? So about $1000 a year? Whereas other average cars are around $150+ for minor service. Can someone confirm this? That is all for now, 3 questions. More may come. Thanks for reading all.
  2. Hi everyone I need some help from you guys who have owned a lexus before. I understand its generally accepted that luxury euro cars like BMW Audi and Mercedes have relatively high maintenance costs, whereas the average Japanese cars have much less. I would like to know how much is it to service a Lexus? This is an old Lexus 2006 I am talking about, has around 80000 KMs done. -the average service costs if I rememeber correctly is around $200- $300 at a proper service place as opposed to Kmart or so. How much would this be for Lexus? -the average insurance costs for a normal car would be around , say, $800-$1000 annually (comprehensive). How much would this be for Lexus? -As for fuel costs, I understand it depends on a lot of things, your driving style,aggressive/gentle, etc etc. so I dont expect to see an answer here since the variables are too many, but would welcome any input here. I guess that is all for now, I just want to get some rough idea on how much the maintenance cost would be owning a 2006 Lexus. EDIT: Since the 90000KM is near, how much is it to replace the timing belt? Thanks everyone heres some answer to your questions 1.an average service at a non lexus dealer would cost around 200-300 6L oil around 20 for the filter and get it done by lexus probably looking at double my average cost was around 400-500 2.Insurance may vary from garaged location but usually anwhere between 700-1300 not much different to other cars 3.Fuel wise you'll get around 500-600km depending on how u drive
  3. Hahah...thanks a lot friend, means a lot. Hopefully it wont ever happen to me, but if, if it does, glad to know I can ask for some assistance.
  4. Damn this is making me worried! Hopefully the place where I but it, they offer a warranty or something. Yes I can buy a touchscreen or so on Ebay...but installing it is a different story. I have no idea what to do/how to install it, and most likely will need someone to replace it for me. Hopefully the lexus I am planning to buy wont have this problem to begin with...
  5. I was just doing a bit of research and found that apparently people have a lot of sat nav problems, screen not responding, with Lexus IS250 2006 model? Is this true, if this has happened to you could you share with us?
  6. Thank you friend for the advice, the only thing stopping me is....is it really ok, buying a car that is about 10 years old?
  7. Thanks so much for the thorough replies people, appreciate it. First of all, what is vented seats? Is this simply the same as heated seats or ventilated meaning something like aircon for summer days? Because Im pretty sure the prestige does have heated seats, not sure about ventilated (air con) seats. Second, what is radar cruise and sensor hid? Third, just wondering if anyone knows a summary/highlight of the differences, extra features in 2006 that are not available in 2010 Thanks again heaps everyone!
  8. Thanks for the reply. However is it that much of a difference? I mean based on my research they both still fall under the 2nd generation category. Plus, is it enough to justify buying the 2010 over the highest grade (sports luxury) 2006?
  9. Hi everyone I am currently in the market for a 2nd hand lexus IS250. There are two that I like, and I will outline the differences below: 2006 Lexus IS250 Sports Luxury ( I believe this is the highest grade? Prestige being the base, Sports in the middle and Sports Luxury highest?) 45000 KM ( So low for its age) VS 2010 Lexus IS250 Prestige 60000 KM So pretty much as you can see, they are roughly the same. Price wise roughly the same also. However, one is almost 10 years old while the other is only 6 years old. So, which should it be? Is the 2006 one ok as long as it is in good condition? Thanks for reading all, have a safe day
