ISF timing chain tensioner replacement

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have the infamous engine ticking noise that occurs in the ISF. According to a Lexus Technical Bulletin EG-0031L-0516, to resolve this issue requires replacement of the timing chain tensioner no.1 Left Hand. I don't really want to have this replaced at a dealership due to the anticipated high cost. Can anyone recommend a good mechanic in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne to do this task?

Hi Grant,

What oil is currently in it? You'd be surprised how much a difference in the blend and weight, the oil can make to suppress the friction and subsequent noise from that the chain tensioner and lifter tappets.

I have tried a number of different oil blends and weight with some success but after driving for maybe 500kms the properties of the oil seem to change and the ticking timing chain noise returns.

Hi Grant. Did you ever get this resolved? I have a 2012 with same problem. I am a bit to try a much easier and cheaper fix. There are quite a few posts on forums suggesting ( as per a Lexus bulletin) that the problem could also be as simple as the idler belt tensioner pulley. Can I also ask if you found someone good with ISF in Melbourne? Im in Geelong and need headers done as well.
Thankyou, Carlos.
