  1. I had this problem...a loud clunk when going over a bump. Took it to my Totota dealer for analysis...took the Service Manager for a drive and it made the noise going over judder bars etc. They put it up on the hoist and couldn't find anything wrong.

A while later, the noise stopped and hasn't come back...bit of a mystery really.

I suspected something sticking in a shock absorber or suspension or something, and once it freed up again the noise stops.

The noise was a concern as it sounds really bad and I was worried it was doing some real damage, but apparently not.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Thanks for your interest, sounds familiar, reckon it will either get better or worse but 'tis annoying.

  2. Two posts on my first day...My IS200 makes "clunking" noises from the front end on some bumps. Took it to Pedders for a suspension checkup but got a clean bill of health. Before I bought this car (April 08) I reckon I'd test driven one other with the same problem but my car didn't do it on the test drive. I've quizzed a couple of Sydney Lexus service guys but haven't come up with an answer. Any clues ?

  3. Hi there, i purchased a Is20 2nd hand about 6 months ago, and iv noticed alot of smoke/ steam cuming out of the exhust, i think its been like this almost all the time since i got the vechicle, and it seems to happen all the time while driving (expecilly at lights and when at rest), its happens at all times of the day, not just in cold weather. Is this normal for a is200, or do i need a service?. The oil is both toped up and clean. Thanks

    Revnit

You said the oil is topped up and clean? How much oil was put exactly ? It sounds like there may be too much oil, which is creating a burning effect, therefore exiting via exhaust. I'd get a professional mechanic to drain the oil, then replace oil within the specifications required for this engine size.

Test only, sorry not used to this format

Thought I'd found someone else with my problem but not to be. My IS200 (2003,70000km) blows about five seconds of blueish - whiteish smoke when started each morning then is ok until the following morning when said smoke appears again. The selling dealer (non Lexus) assures me that the problem is Throttle body cleaner which they used when servicing the car still remaining in the intake manifold but seems a bit far fetched to me. I'm hoping they're right as the car is still under statutory warranty and I don't relish the idea of them delving into the Lex engine room. What do you think ??
