  1. Far out, I don't see what the fuss is about... bit of a tongue in cheek remark about putting headlights in the oven and he cops all this heat??

Good on you dude for getting some quick mods in the first couple of weeks! Interested to see what you get done next (wouldn't mind knowing what you're doing for wheels, that's about as far as my wanted list stretches right now)

    Cheers,

    Dan

  2. There's quite a lot of discussion in here regarding financing/novated leases and the only question I want to pose is this.

Have you considered a Company Hire Purchase?

If you have the ability to claim a chunk of the vehicles use as 'work use' the benefits associated with this form of finance are pretty impressive. The only point that requires some work on your behalf is keeping a 3 month log book (only technically need to do this once during your entire ownership) which justifies your % of 'work use'.

    Cheers,

    Dan

Company hire purcahse as in, you running your own company as a business, and buying a car through it? That coudl work if you do use it for work mainly. Wouldn't apply to employees though, companies don't like to hold cars on their balance sheets.

Also, your tax claim would still need to be proportioned, based on business usage, so private portion would not be deductible. If you don't drive the car for work purposes at all, you would have no tax benefits as it would not be deductible. And just because you may use your car for the first three months, and have a log book to prove it, that log book is only valid up to the point your business usage significantly changes.

Lastly, if you do use your car for work purposes mainly, novated lease in your private company can still work. Instead of using the statutory formula method for working out FBT I mentioned previously, instead you can use the operating method, as it then takes into account business use percentage to reduce the taxable value anyway. So for example if you had a 100% business usage vehicle in your company as either novated lease or a hire purchase, the tax effect would be the same.

I am generalising a bit, so best to sit down and crunch the numbers to see what works best in your case. :)

Sorry for the delay here, didn't see a note come through of your reply.

I don't have my own business, the real stipulation here is that you can use the vehicle for work usage.

If that's the case, and as stated it's possible to claim a majority (over 60%) then this form of purchase should work out to be pretty effective.

This isn't my day job, but if anyone is serious I'd be happy to pass on my advisors details as he was superb with my new addition

  3. Anyone ever had the GPS go a little crazy on them before..?

    Here's what happened to me;

    * Installed V16 map

    * Everything loaded up just great. Spun up and was ready to go within 30seconds

    * Drove around for a week or so with no issues

    * Had a trip down the south coast that my g/f was going to have to meet me at.... HERE WE GO

    * Start trying to add the address in (near nowra). Was really slow... All of a sudden, it just pauses. Wait a while, not much changes... Eventually it starts going again, then locks up...

    * Turn the car off then back on

    * Go to add the address back in, now it can't find anything as it's dumped the 'state' out of the map... Can't click on the button, nothing happens. Effectively rendered the unit useless

    * Swap back to the V13 map and all is fine... try the V16 again and it's still buggered.

Sidenote: V13 map still lets me assign sounds to marked points of interest, I thought that was a V16 only feature.

    Anyone??

  4. Fellas...

I've just updated my maps to V16 but am wondering on something

One of the other IS's I test drove had this audible bell sound when a fixed speed camera appeared on the map. I thought maybe my old maps were too old for this feature (was V13). Sadly, I've still got no noise with speed cameras, has anyone else got this going on theirs?

    Cheers,

    Dan

The locations of speed carmeras aren't preset by WhereIs (the supplier of the Lexus sat nav maps).

Version 16 allows you to manually mark address book entries with sound-linked icons so that, as you approach the map point, an audible sound is heard. My Lexus dealer was quick to give a speed camera location as the ultimate example of using this feature. Your test IS probably had some speed camera locations in its address book, which would have been pre-configured by someone. Speed camera locations aren't included in WhereIs' directory of points of interest, so you'll have to locate the speed camera locations on the map yourself and add the points to your address book, marking each of them with an appropriate icon.

If you already knew all that and are still wondering why you're not hearing anything as you approach the address book location, make sure you've pressed the "I Accept" button on the display panel. The sat nav function doesn't run at all until you've explicitly accepted the notice and disclaimer.

Thanks very much! Makes sense now, so just drop a 'mark' when you drive past one and go about setting it up once you get to your destination. Easy enough.

Surely those WhereIs guys get this info put together as part of their $300 update...

    Dan

  6. Hi Guys,

Just trying to get these initial things setup but struggling to sync my iphone contacts.

Has anyone else had dramas? I'm just doing the 4.0 to 4.1 software update on the phone, but do you think that could have been the problem?

I've checked over the steps here. When it says to connect to the device to transfer contacts it just sits there, then times out and fails after about a minute.

    Cheers,

    Dan

  7. Hey Dan

welcome to the wonderful world of IS250 lexus perfection.

There are heaps of things you can do to make your car unique.

you should come to the meets. getting bigger every meet. plenty of inspiration there. thats where my stock and mind set of a stock car changed. although you will love and appreciate the awesomeness of what the car is already. its great feeling of changing the little things to make it unique to you.

    welcome dude

Cheers man.. Hopefully I'll be able to meet some of you over the coming months. I don't think I have quite the same plans as some, but the first thing will be the lower/rim combo. I'm just not willing to sacrifice the easy going bump free ride, so unsure how to attack getting it down a few cm's...

    Better keep reading!

    Cheers,

    Dan
