hi all jus lookin at gettin som feed back. i am lookin at doin the conversion from 1g to 3g beams as i am not a mechanic i need to find a mechanic to do the work for me preferably in the brissy/ gold coast area. Does anyone know a business or someone who would do the engine conversion for me at a good price??? if so what sort of price would i be looking at to get this done.
if not i want to put another 1G-FE in my car. if i look at doing this i need to find someone in the same area to do the straight swap of the engine an gearbox. so again does anyone know anyone in the brissy/gold coast area that would do the straight swap at a good price???
reason for doing swap is my lexus is200 has jus hit 173xxx and the gearbox is gonna *BLEEP* itself in near future. clutch seal is braking down an i have been quoted 2500 to rebuild gear box
-
hey T, nah i havent bought the parts yet i thought i would do the research first, the reason i am doin this project is because my auto gear boxs clutch seal is breaking down and the only way of fixing this problem is to either get another gear box or re build this one. they have quoted me 2500 minimum for rebuild. Plus my car has 172xxx on the clock. so i thought well if its goin to cost me this much for rebuild why not replace engine and gear box, my dream has always been my car as a manual, so i thought why not replace engine and auto with a engine and manual gearbox and do the engine swap and the conversion at the same time. so talking to a wreckers i have found an engine and manual gearbox for 2g's and now i am wondering if its goin to cost me through the roof to do the conversion from auto to manual, plus i would like to no wat parts i am after to hopefully not have to ask the wrecker for anything else so the transition can be as easy as rip the engine and geabox out put the new gear box in clutch cables manual ecu and engine. as i am not a mechanic i jus have and interest in cars i would like as much info as possible its not that its worth it, is it goin to cost me heaps in labour to do the job??
cheers
-
so would u recomend me doin the engine swap and gettin the auto box instead of the manual gearbox?? i am aranging to get everything i need from a wrecker to do the manual conversion. do u reccomend going through with the manual conversion or sticking with the auto??
-
well im actually puttin another 1g-fe as i dont really have the money to do a conversion atm so another 1g with 89xxxk's that comes with a manual g/box so i am doin my conversion from auto to manual and replacing engine all at the same time.
how difficult is doing the conversion from auto to manual is it as simple as getting all the parts and bolting them on or is there other more difficult things to consider. a mechanic wil b doin the work i just would like to no wat sort of work would b involved in doing this that all.

also another factor could be that wen they were telling me how much it would cost they were adding in things like rego and mod plate pricing as well im not sure but could be a possibility?????

i dont know y people are charging so much for 2j's
1j's and 2j's are pretty much the same
and use the same mounts and all
even the box and such matches up
only difference is the engine
i just dont think the double in price is just not justifiable
i agree but people no that people wll pay more for more power and it is tru that 2jz will produce more power the 1j

Hmmm I actually bought this question up on the facebook group lexusownersclub and they were say due to customizing the tail shaft and mount and other things like that it's gonna be up around the 7-8k for 1jz as this is wat I was interested in doin then I mention 2jz and the said 10-15k this was about a month ago but yes ur rite I have found half cuts alot cheap and I think 4Gs could b a bit much for install....
-
No it's 7-8 grand to buy engine and install it if u havent got mechanics back round and 10-15 for 2jz engine and install..............
-
gday nico im dan i also own an is200 welcome to the forum....i mite take u up on that offer at som point ha
-
hi everyone
i own an is200 an as the k's are getting high on my engine and the gear box is about to die i am gettin another 1g-fe installed into my car with a manual instead of an auto box. does anyone have a round about figure of how much the installation would cost. i believe it would be a pretty simple job as it is the same engine that was already in the car.
cheers

hi everyone, i was wanting to get som feed back on an engine swap i wanna do. i want to do the 1jz engine swap. i was wondering as i am not a mechanic if anyone new of anywhere that would do this sort of transplant in QLD. also another downside to the situation is i am not able to have a turbo just yet. if i was to get a 1jz N/A and get that fitted and at a later date put a turbo kit on it wat problems will i run into????
Cheers FLEXUS

its all about bang for you buck, 1jz will cost around 7-8k for engine and fit and will get u 300kw easy, 2jz 10-15k for engine and fit and will get u much more power 500kw somthin like that. i have been lookin at the same sort of thing i want to go the 1jz option because its more cost effective. but if u want mass amounts of power then yes the 2jz option is the way to go.
-
3sge engine swap or 1jz or 2jz engine swap which would b more cost effective for power and for money???? the 3sge is a very good starting point with the 210bhp but a 1jz or 2jz has the internals that wil withstand the turbo an unless i did som serious mods the internals could wait until i looked at get som seriously high numbers in bhp. but can anyone give me a price difference between doin a 1jz a 2jz or a 3sge engine swap????

i agree with "exatekk" dependin on what the mechanics itemised ticket says because 9 times ot of 10 the work they have done is legit and they have got a reason behind it..............in saying that tho to do that work they need to consult you about goin ahead with the work they have done. i have been caught out b4 an i definately feel ur pain wen u get given a quote by a mechanic an then it turns out tonnes more expensive except mine was $800 that turned out to be $1200 2 months later my car was broken down again..................luckily it wasnt my lexus it was an older car i owned!!!! but yes i agree with "exatekk" if i was you i would be seeking further advise from consumer affairs & fair trade coz yeh i agree u have a good case against the work that was done unless he can give you proof that the work he has done HAD to be done!!!!

i agree spark plugs or fuel filter, i actually had the same thing at one point new iridiums an i was all sweet mate. :D

i everyone,
i recently had my car taken to an automatic transmission specialist to have my gear box looked at as it was having trouble changing from 2nd to 3rd :( ........so i thought........in the end i have been told the gear box is fine :D , it reaches all gears manually but there is a significant loss of power in the engine :( , and the timing is all way out.......hence why when its in drive it wont reach the higher gears. so with a good tune and the timing belt fix will this fix my lack of power under load, because my car seems to be revving and idling fine??????
please leave feedback
thanx :D

hi all!!!!
i have had a few troules with my is200 (Automatic) over the last 2 weeks, an it has now com to the point where it wont drive properly at all. i believe its due to my throw out bearing or flywheel,i put it in drive an take off it changes from 1st to 2nd then its as if it skips 3rd and drops it into 4th dropping the revs from 4000 to 2000 because of it changing from 2nd to 4th i believe........ also at idle it whines a little bit...... so i believe it could be the throw ou bearing because of whining noise or flywheel because it wont change to 3rd can anyone give another diagnosis please!!!!!!!

I think you should really look at other forms of modification to increase power but in saying that there is really no point for the is200, the 1G-FE engine isn't really made for performance. "Chip's" are a waste of time and money, if they really did work don't you think more than 1 person would have bought it?
The best legal modifications you can do (on your p's) are i/h/e (intake/headers/exhaust). There are plenty of exhausts out there for the is200 and you could very easily get a pod as well, headers not so much that I know of. Even after all this though you would probably be better off with an IS300 if you want more power. Very roughly stock is something like ~116kw v is300's ~160kw.
I'd recommend you looking at the suspension/handling side of things to make your car more enjoyable, ie strut braces, sway bars, coilovers. Some nice wheels would also be good. There is heaps of information out there about these cars, should probably do a little more research.
cheers for ur feed back, i have got the intake, i have a high flow cannon but not exhaust, i am aware i will not reach high numbers of hp but i am jus lookin for an is200 with a lil more balls, i am investing in exhaust, the car is lowered and i have got strut bars and the big wheels, as i am on my p's the is200 was the one i could afford. i understand one person has bought this but i have googled reviews an they have said all good things but i will have to do more research also am endevouring an engine swap but that will happen in the future.
