  1. Hi guys,

I noticed that when im in 3rd gear and i push the rev range above 3000-3500rpm i get a really bad almost egg fartish like smell.

My 2006 Sport is the same if I get heavy on the gas, (and being manual I probably do that more than should)

I have read a number of suggestions as to the possible cause and how to deal with it, but the one I believe is the issue for my IS, is the primary catalytic converters. Apparently Lexus changed the CATs in the 08 or 09 model and in the states they actually offered owners with earlier models experiencing this, the option of having the CATS swapped out, but not here in Oz :(

A common suggestion is to try a different fuel supplier, so BP instead of Gull, etc...but I have tried many, in many different areas around Perth and this has made no difference for me, so I am currently looking into what options there are for aftermarket exhaust manifolds with new CATS and bolting that on in place of the stock one........ unfortunately I have not found one yet that wont bring up any fault lights

    Hi

thanks for the reply! its certainly helped, having read some other people post on the forum ill try different fuels. Im currently using V POWER.

    Cheers

  2. Hi guys,

Hoping someone can help me out here.

Im usually not much of the hard driver, with sometimes having the transmission in S. I noticed that when im in 3rd gear and i push the rev range above 3000-3500rpm i get a really bad almost egg fartish like smell.

Im wondering if this is normal and if anyone has experienced this before? Ive also noticed that my oil use is tremendously high. I changed the engine oil 5000km ago and have had to top up twice (engine oil notification came on). I use 5w-30w mobil engine oil.

I have a 2008 is250 prestige. Hoping someone can help me out.

    Do I have a lemon??

Everything else seems to be going well. I average 9.1L/100km in the city

    Thanks heaps in advanced.

  3. Okay if I am not spending more then why am I filling up at 500km per tank now rather than 650km previously?

Having a bigger wheel means my odo reading is now accurate, as my 16" were about 5kmph off.

    Yo guys.

Previously had the old 16" prestige rims on my 2008 is250. Was averaging 8.7l/100km for city driving

Now Ive got 18" Sports luxury Rims on there and its skyrocketed to 11.5l/100km...

Probably not worth the looks for me at this stage.. spending $30 bucks more a week to fill up =/

You're not spending more - nor has your consumption increased. The circumference has changed and thus gives both speed & odo meter reading variances which has changed your calculation... From memory I think you can recalibrate the computer for this (consumption) but not km's.

Look at http://www.inawise.com/tyre-calculator/tyre-size-calculator.html, insert your relevant sizes and see the error (or the change in readings is probably the correct term)...

  4. Even though Lexus Blackburn is much more convenient for me, have been using Lexus Brighton since buying the car from there in April 2010....found them pretty good at fixing things and NOT giving excuses!! And like Blacky, they seem quite good at finding and fixing issues during the servicing process.

Recently got my 90K service done there - their initial estimate sounded high - Lexus Blackburn quoted about $100 less and Brighton matched that!!

As a matter of interest, do all dealers provide a free courtesy car even after the warranty period has expired? Brighton does, and I wasn't sure if this was their own initiative or is a standard Lexus dealer practice.

Courtesy car is free with every service with Lexus as far as I am aware. :) Ive had three lexus' out of warranty and have always received a car when asked for one

Anyway, I just finished my 75k km service at lexus city melbourne.$780 all up

Quite good - car feels alot smoother on acceleration. So a good job done by the mechanics

The guys at the desk in my opinion weren't great. I asked them about the carbon build up and they had apparently "never heard of it" and were brushing off every niggling thing i said such as "dusty brakes" and rough engine idle. I would much rather talk to a mechanic about my car who wants to understands rather than talking to the guys sit down and take phone calls.

For the 90Km service I would have to go and try blackburn. Ive been to both Melbourne and Brighton and would say they're on par.

quote for the throttle clean/ upper injector clean was $165 if anyones interested and also quote on 90k KM service at melbourne lexus was $1350 (justified by $500 spark plugs apparently)

  5. Sorry, I'm in Tassie so I can't vote but I'd like to know more about the injector recall. Mine are noisy on startup then quieten down but still make a bit of a racket. From what I've read on these forums it's pretty normal but your mention of a recall has me interested.

No idea why its been recalled.. though i have booked in with city lexus on monday! will update you once its been done/looked at.

  6. Hi guys.

Does anybody know if the TSIB is valid in australia? Theres alot of stuff regarding TSIB for the IS250 re:

    1) Carbon build up

    2) Front brake pads (dust)

    3) Fuel Injector

    4) Windscreen wind noise

Would it be worth pointing this out in australian dealers and has anybody had any luck having things replaced for free or under warranty from quoting the TSIB.

My is250 has a noisy windscreen when driving >60kmph, rough idle and dusty front brakes :( :( :(

For those who dont know what TSIB - Lexus Technical service bulletins

    Cheers :)

Thanks for that Lex51s. Going in for a 75k service. Do I just ask for a throttle body clean ? Surely they would know whats going on right?

    Cheers

  8. Hello fellow melbourne lexus owners

Just wondering which dealer out of three in melbourne is the best of the bunch

have a 75k km service coming up. been quoted $780 at blackburn and melbourne city lexus(which i think is fairly decent). Also bringing it in for the fuel injection recall (08 is250)

I havent heard many good things about brighton lexus though apart from the fact that it is the biggest one.

Anyone delt with city lexus that could share their experience?

    Cheers :)

  9. Lexus 'recondmends' that the car is serviced every 12 months or 15K, which ever comes first. I picked up my car with 48K on the clock but the car had been serviced up to 75K. So I've only had minor servicing done until I hit the 75K mark...

Even though its done 3K, its been a while since it had a service (degraded oil etc). If your pretty good with cars, you can just do a oil change by yourself or Lexus should be able to do a minor service for you. They will also check over the whole car for you to make sure its in good condition (body work, engine diagnostics etc) since you've just bought it...

    Awesome

thanks for the input Quoc. Will most likely go to Lexus Melbourne... =)
