    Guys,

My IS250 is now at 160,000km, car drives flawlessly, engine is still going strong as ever, Motul oil every 7500km, no problem with gearbox what so ever.

I'm just taking precaution here and booked for a transmission full flush at TNK automotive Girraween on this Friday. I mentioned Danny's referral, the owner (Bill) sounds very nice to deal with over the phone, his main mechanic also his son Ahmed will do the actual work.

I'll take some photo and let you how it goes and how the car drives afterwards. This will be the last service to my car before I upgrade to a newer car at the end of year.

    Hi Will,

    How did it go?

    Any photos?

  3. This 18" inch wheel set is from a 2012 Lexus IS350 Sports Luxury and are the original Lexus OEM wheels. They will also fit all IS250 cars. They are structurally fine.

Wheels have scuff marks and spot marks on them.

    Front wheels are 18" x 8" and rear wheels are 18" x 8.5".

Front tyres are 225/40/18 Bridgestone Turanza ER33 which need replacing.

Rears tyres are 255/40/18 Bridgestone Turanza ER33 which have approximately 40% tread on them.

PM me if you have any questions

  4. I have been doing a lot of research on Lexus IS transmissions. A lot of threads say it is sealed and therefore impossible to change the fluid inside the transmission. Even the maintennance schedule says it never needs to be changed. For some of us who like having cars for the long haul its probably makes us think twice about the life of the fluid. I want to clarify what I have learnt about the transmission over the last few weeks.

    1. The fluid is meant to last 100,000km (WS ATF fluid)(Stated by several Dealers and Ex mechanics from Lexus)

    2. The transmission fluid can be changed by dropping the pan and refilling the lost fluid through the side of the transmission.

About 1.5 litres is contained within the pan.

    3. The fluid can and should be changed as part of regular maintennance. It takes about 8 litres for a full flush.

    4. There is a mesh filter in the transmission which should be changed and an o-ring which should also be replaced.

    5. Using a special pump machine at a transmission service centre [NOT THE DEALER OP!] for about 100 bucks depending where you go, you can get the whole transmission fluid and filter all replaced.

    6. You can purchase the WS ATF FLUID 4L cannisters and FILTER AND O-RING from Lexus Parts.

WHY DOES LEXUS SAY ITS LIFETIME?

Once the car is out of warranty, your fluid will lose its viscosity and protective properties. Heat and metal shavings from normal use will or even excessive towing will cause the transmission fluid to be damaged over time. When people purchase cars runnings costs play a major factor. What Lexus hopes is that the car will be sold before the 100,000km mark. This way transmission maintennace is out of the picture hence a lower running cost [making it more appealing for buyers]. At this stage the car is out of warranty. Without replacing the fluid the car will begin to have rough changes and hesitation whilst changing gears. Eventually you will need a new transmission. This will cost about 7000 dollars from the dealer+labour. It's up to you what you want to believe but I have changed all my fluid and filter and the hesitation between gears and low idling rpm problem was all solved. Also the large amount of heat coming from the transmission was also gone. It's up to you what you want to do but for those who want to keep their cars running fine for the long run I recommend you change your fluid before you cause more damage than good when your transmission is too old.

I just wanted to place an end to all this confusion with lexus IS transmissions!!! Cheers.

    Hi,

Where in Sydney did you get your transmission filter changed and fluid changed/flushed?

    Thanks.

  5. Hi,

I am after a set of 2IS IS250/IS350 OEM Factory Wheels as pictured in the link below:

The set must be in immaculate condition, no gutter marks, no scratches, not buckled & not previously repaired.

    Thanks.

  6. I know there is a TSIB in the USA for the 2006-2007 IS250 and IS350 for the dash rattles/squeaks.

Does anybody know if there is TSIB in Australia for the dash rattles/squeaks for the 2008+ model 2nd gen IS250 and IS350?

If there is, do you know the TSIB number?

    Thanks.

Given the prevalence of some rattles and squeaks, I would guess there exists a documented procedure for fixing them.

But, perhaps, your real question is, "If there a recall for the 2008+ model 2nd gen IS250 and IS350, with regard to rattles and squeaks, so I can get them fixed free of charge?"

I would guess again that the answer is no. But there are some factors that might minimise any cost to you for fixing them outside of the warranty period. I believe there are three kinds of rattles and squeaks:

    1. The most common one emanates from the glovebox. It is easily found when the technician fiddles with the air filter and/or removes the shelf inside the glovebox. Perhaps your Lexus dealer will be nice enough to help fix this one without any labour costs, since it's easy to identify and fix. (And if they've recently performed a major service and replaced the filter, then just complain that they didn't do a good job, because it's been rattling since you got the car back.)

    2. The second one involves the door seals. The doors can rattle due to dry door seals, particularly in winter. Your Lexus dealer can show you how to fix these yourself, so the only cost to you would be some lubricant spray.

    3. The third one involves the foam inside the body panels. I once had a rattle in the B pillar on the passenger's side. A fix would involve removing some interior panels, and perhaps insertion of even more foam. I suspect these are the kinds of problems that would cost you if you find them outside of the warranty period, but they're not as prevalent as the other two types.

    Thanks for that Lance.

I believe there is a 4th rattle/squeak. Just near the speaker on top of the dash at the base of the windshield. It seems to be a very common place to rattle/squeak based on what people say on the US Lexus forums. This is TSIB i'm looking for, if there is one that is.
