  1. Thanks LN. Yes, I have a Bimmer as well (1 series). Many of the Oz motoring journos are to be taken with a grain of salt, IMO. One wrote of the RC cockpit - "it is tremendously busy.....there are so many buttons to work out (not), and their placement is at odds with today's needs" (whatever that means...). The same journo then wrote - "the huge emphasis on the CD player (whatever that means) is just downright out of date" (perhaps it's prominent, because there is no excess of buttons surrounding it....?). But just as easily they can then complain when there are not enough buttons, claiming there are "too many nested menus" to navigate via screen interfaces to reach frequent functions....

I have tried the touchpad input for destination input, and it may be a bit quicker than dial twirling for that - but that's a task you have to more clearly focus on in the first instance, regardless of input method (the Lexus won't let you enter on the go, which I can understand). With IDRIVE I have found you quickly learn to "feel" your way through the number of clicks and presses to bring up frequently visited radio stations or other frequently used functions, whilst barely looking at the screen - whereas with Remote Touch, I find you need to visually check on screen a bit more often, to be sure where the pointer highlight is going. And IDRIVE has 7 quick access buttons grouped round the controller, whereas the Lexus has only the 2. The Bimmers also continue with preset buttons (which are programmable for many functions, not just radio frequencies), to further aid cabin control. There's other things too, like how on the Bimmer you can group radio frequencies together from any of AM/FM/DAB rather than having to change B/W AM/FM/DAB first. But I may not have found that yet? But all splitting hairs a bit - both are great. Cheers

Thanks for sharing the experience on iDrive and I totally agree. However, compare with my 1st and 2nd gen idrive experience, I much prefer Merc's Command system. Although the 3rd gen idrive may out performance command but I haven't used it. For the Merc's Command system, and compare with the touch pad on lexus when I used during the test drive. I find the same thing is that German's system is easy to use when you are driving, especially the command system, push the knob upward give you the main menu to choose and most of function can done with the turn the knob. compare with the idrive, the click fell on command make me feel easier to operate it.

For the Lexus, I'd rather use steering wheel remote buttons to control the music, and trip computer, and it actually easier than the idrive, but i still prefer command's way, maybe just because i am more familiar with it. But for Lexus, while cars are moving, the small screen is much helpful than the large one.

So, that's my experience so far. do you think is that because I haven't get used to the system in the short time, or that's really about this system?

The other thing I find Japanese car maker one step behind the German is multi language support. As a Japanese car, it suppose support Japanese file name as I listen lots of J pop music, however, What I have found is, all German car make's system can display Japanese Hiragana and Katakana Chinese Kanji Characters, but Lexus can't, and I know Toyota and Honda can't. And even aftermarket player like alpine doesn't support Japanese. So, the German car support a language that not broadly use here and their original place, but Japanese car maker just simply doesn't support their own language, really shame on them. They just cant react quick enough for the globalization like their smart phone industry!

  2. TRC,

Thank you SO much for taking the trouble to post all those photos. Hopefully they will be of interest to other members as well. They have definitely helped me make up my mind and I will be changing my order to Ultra White with Dark Rose. The dealership actually has one of these on the way, arriving in about one week, but it has the Pack 2 instead of the Pack 1 and is a 2014 build and they want about $5k extra over mt custom build, which will be a 2015 build with Pack 1. The active cruise is the only feature of Pack 2 I would ever use (my current IS250 has it) but I'm not sure it's worth 5k. The extra time waiting for the custom build will also give me time to sell the IS250.

Again, congrats on your car. The combo of Titanium with Dark Rose looks amazing!

the dark rose looks greate. did ur dealer give much discount on ur custom built? 5k extra seems to much for the ep2
No, not much discount. I got $1,000 off plus free window tinting (told me it was worth $600) and free servicing for 4 years.

wow, thats really not much and asking 5000 on ep2 and with 2014 built car i consider its rip off..... they must sell rc well at least i got this ppint

  4. Hi, here's a photo of my Titanium/Dark Rose F sport enhancement pack 2, that I picked up about 3 weeks ago. The photo is at delivery. I had a choice of this or White Nova, but I felt the titanium suited the colouring and design of the F sport wheels and spindle grill treatment a bit better than the white - against which they stand out more starkly. All pure personal preference, though.

I like the active cruise control too, but a shame it is not all speed ACC like the GS450H, or the Germans.

Should be the 1st rc in the forum, congrats! :D

  5. Hi everyone,

I believe when you guys see my car in my info will curious why a toyota guy reg here, as jzx platform has not much connection with lexus.

But, for one exception, JZX110, which is basically, share all the underpin with XE10. they have the same suspension arms and links, shocks, spring, and even identical brakes. I discover this after I own the car, struggling to find parts(oem and performance), suddenly, everything become easier. Engine and drivetrain refer to chaser JZX100, much popular here than 110, and all the handling just give me lots of choices, as the XE10 not a JDM, but worldwide model.

After talk about my connection with lexus, the other reason i reg here is I am about to shop a new RC. and then can share more about toyota and lexus.

Just attach some pic for my JZX110. Very few and mild mod re power. :)

Hope you guys enjoy the story.

  6. Hi Diesmile,

They bought brand new Mode 2014 in Syd, the IS350F is blue in red, I personally think it is the best combination. I'm in Brisbane and the best dealer could do here for IS350F+EP1 is $76000 (three years service for corporate programme, duties cheaper in QLD). if your budget is around 60K, I would still recommond you the demo IS350Fs,10k kms is nothing for a Lexus. the 3.5L engine is a GEM, it beats the BMW 335! it is in totally different world from the 250 or 300H. once you drive the 350, you will know. in addition, 3.5L engine doesn't have the carbon build up issue like the 2.5L and fuel comsumption on my car is 9.7L (70% highway) Also, the steering with VGRS(only in 350F and SL model) is sharper. Now Lexus has MY2015 out, with some upgrades in lights, and also reverse alarm which could detect side incoming vehicles, make sure you take this into account when negociating with dealers, might worth wait a month or two.

If you are not a "fast"driver, another good choise might be the BMW 320i, with 17 inches tyres, it is comfort and quiet (surprisingly quieter than the IS), and you get all the fansy technologies, such as HUD, electronic tailgate, 360 view camera etc.... someone I know bought MY14 New 320i sports line, sunroof, 5 year/80 K service pack, in Mel City BMW, driveaway was $54500 and in Brisbane the best I got was $61000 for a 320i with luxury line, sunroof, metallic paint, innovation pack(must have, all the good technology stuffs) and the 5 year service pack. tried the 320 Msport and 328i but the ride is to rough for me. However for 320i, the ride is actually quite comfort (not as good as Lexus though) and the powertrain, chaissis and steering are all top of its class.

Good luck and let us know how you goes, cheers!

    Hi,

Could you please tell me when did your friends buy the cars? Was they buying MY14 model when MY15 up the shelf or no where near MY15 been put onto the market?

Just plan to shop a RC mid next year, and wanna do some research on the price, never shopped luxury segment before, but now seems they are the same price wise as mainstream brands, as your friends managed 9k discount for the deal. Thought they are more difficult to deal re the price.

    Regards
