  1. Wow...I logged onto this site to post this exact same problem. Almost identical.

    2010 IS250 F Sport

    60 month service / approx 70K

Average fuel went from about 11 to 12 L/per100Km. Same conditions

I had fuel sensor recall done a few months back

One main difference is that I went to a Lexus "specialist" not a Lexus Dealer (half the cost).

I use shell 95ron. I used to use 98, but found no difference in economy and it's cheaper.

In terms of measuring the fuel, i use the trip computer as a guide (which is not accurate), but I measure it off an app where I log the km's, litres in and price. I always fill up to full, so i know my numbers are accurate.

I am only on my 2nd tank of fuel since service, so it could be too early to tell (ie maybe they put an additive in which gave me less economy on the first tank). I have only just started on my 2nd tank but the consumption at this early stage looks higher than normal

  2. I had this problem in winter. Carbon build up. Avoid short cold start & stops (ie to quickly move car in morning), let it idle for a bit & stretch it out with a few nice fully warmed up cycle drives. Carbon clean also helps too.

Thanks MR2QIK. I think i've fixed it (for now anyway). While I think what you say is correct, I shouldn't have to do that. It really should just work under any condition. The mazda and toyota i've had over the last 10 years never had an issue. (Although the Vectra I had was known to stall ALL the time due to carbon build up)

  3. Thanks again Lance

That was the premise of my original question really..ie to see if it's just a general inaccuracy of the trip computer that would explain the difference, or could it be something else. Seems like it could be a mixture of both

I read that the 75km service includes a fuel injector clean so also wondering if that will make a difference. (just done over 60K)

I'll see how I go in the next few tanks now that i've tried a few things and report back on if there is any difference.

  4. haha..now I get why you call yourself Lexus Nerd :-)

Thanks for your very detailed explanation...which makes sense.

Given that no one else has reported the same issue, it sounds like it explains at least part of the problem.

I will continue to monitor and see if after running the fuel cleaner if things even out a little or the gap remains the same.

  5. Hi Lance

    1. i calculate using the old method. ie input the no of k's driven and the no. of litres i fill to full. Then work out how many litres per 100km. Been doing this for years, and doing this on the lexus since i picked it up in december.

Your point about the wheels is interesting. the rear should be 245's, but i noticed the are 225's (same as front). Do think this could explain it ? The car passed both RWC and a detailed inspection I paid for so was surprised this wasn't picked up

    it is litres per 100km.

  6. Yep..i do that. 6 times now (every tank since I bought the car). And it's consistently out by roughly 1Litre per 100Km, with the correct figure (the manual calulation) showing less econonmy than the trip computer

I believe I have some carbon build issues (I have another post about this) as the car has stalled twice now in the morning, so I'm wondering if this impacts the trip meter calculations.

I've used some fuel cleaner and also redlined it for about 5 seconds a few times which hopefully will address this and see if this changes anything.

  7. Hi Guys

Anyone noticed that the Tank Average reading on a Lexus IS250 is out (2010 F Sport) ?

With the driving I do (mainly short trips) I get about 9-10L/100km on the trip computer, however when I compare it to my Car Log app (which is bascially km's / Litres of fuel) it's typically about 1L more (ie 10-11L / 100km.

This is pretty consistent per tank irrespective of whether I do city or country driving that it's about 1L out

  8. Thanks Andrew. Can you clarify what you mean by a carbon clean ? I was googling and found this post..is this the same thing you are referring too ? ie just using an fuel cleaner ?

    =================

I first experienced this very same issue earlier this year, my Lexus mechanic advised this is a known problem and gave me a 250ml bottle of Lexus Injector Cleaner. The problem is now resolved and I have not noticed this issue since. He advised to add this every 3 months prior to filling up petrol. I suspect pouring Shell VPower or any high RON fuel and a heavy foot will also do the trick. Thats just my thought anyways. Hope this helps.

This is what the bottle says:

    Part No. 08813-00840

"The LEXUS Genuine Injector Cleaner is a gasoline fuel additive formulated specifically for all LEXUS petroleum engines. It removes injector deposits and combustion chamber deposits, improving rough idle, hesitation and driveability"

  9. Hi Guys. Having an issue with my 2010 IS250 F Sport

On 2 occassions, in the morning (melbourne...reasonably cold) I start the car, then drive up my short but steep driveway onto the road, and the car stalls (auto)

One one occassion, tank was about half full, but I only filled up last night, and this morning it happened again

This never happened with our mazda or corolla.

Anyone have any ideas why ?
