Your wrong there, you can definitley plug an iphone in and it will work just like an ipod, i know because thats what ive been doing for the past few years
BUT...
The newer the iphone/ios, the glitchier the experience. Eg: Back when i had an iphone 6s plugged in via usb cable, the music worked 100% fine, when i moved to an iphone xr, it started randomly disconnecting, i had to restart the iphone to get it to work correct.
But the funny thing is, my mrs has the EXACT same iphone as me, with the exact same ios but my car doesnt recognise her phone at all.
I can also plug a usb stick in, but it seems to have a limit in regards to how much music it can actually play. Eg if i put a few gb worth and say 600 songs, it will mostly play the same songs over and over (on random), so out of that 600, its only actually recognising 200
Not wrong. I've tried iPhone 4's and later, but they don't work. Weird thing is sometimes the display shows the music track title/artist for a few secs but then drops out. I can not get iPhones to play at all.
It's a pity there's no firmware upgrade available (?), particularly for Bluetooth streaming music. The hardware is there already.

The bizarre thing is they can control iPods (remember those?) via USB but not iPhones nor Android. AND of course only have Bluetooth for calls.
It's obviously just firmware that could be changed to make it integrated but that would prevent you from buying a later model Lexus...
I searched Apple for an app that would make it behave like an iPod on USB but to no avail. Haven't searched if Android can trick the USB port to mimic iPod.
Bluetooth would be so much simpler.

That's good, just need to find a towbar solution. I am looking for a decent sedan which can also do periodic modest towing duties, so I was hoping the IS350 might do the job.
Ummm, 350s aren't meant to be a tow car. My user's manual doesn't have it as an option whereas the 250 is. I figure it's got something to do with the trans tune; you may wreck the trans. I could be wrong - haven't looked that far into it.

The Australian Lexus website (https://www.lexus.com.au/models/rc/performance) says the following...
looks like you've referenced the RC not the IS.

Yes everything still works
Do car controls really work? If the UE-SV1810 is connected to your phone via bluetooth and the sound goes via 3.5 mm AUX to the car audio system, how do the car controls work the phone? I thought the controls could only work the USB (iPod), as well as car CD etc.

IS350s are not supposed to be used for towing, according to my owner's manual (2011). I assume it has something to do with the transmission 'tune' / set-up.
Actually this applies to the 2IS 6-speed - not sure if it's the same for 3IS 8-speed auto.

So were they fake the ones you took out ?? cheers.
Looks like it. Fuel economy looks to have improved with the new plugs (standard gap).

That happens to fake ones all the time and sometimes the real ones, did you have the fake plugs study them against the real ones when you get them cheers.
I had to reduce the gap of the 'genuine' (eBay) plugs and was a bit surprised they were out of tolerance. Otherwise, they looked OK, but appearances obviously ain't everything...
Pretty annoyed at the waste of money, time and loss of fuel economy / possible damage of large plug gaps (first pic, close to 2 mm gap).
I have a new set of NGK DFH6B-11A from Supercheap. The gaps are all perfect out-of-the-box (second pic).

Just be aware of all the fake ones, oem,ngk denso a lot made in china. I ended up getting mine from a Lexus dealer in the usa, if they are cheap there probably fake.
I bought what seemed genuine Denso plugs nearly 2 yrs ago. It seemed my fuel economy dropped off but I put it down to my imagination and various driving regimes.
Today I pulled out a plug to find nearly all the 'iridium' tip (earth side) had gone. The gap was over 2.0 mm... I swapped for a spare new plug and checked the rest - nearly all the same!
All I could do is close the gaps to ~1.1 mm and reinstall them. Seems to be running OK but will have to find genuine...

Hi, I'm a noob here (recent purchase) and not sure if this is the right spot for a new 'how too..' since the last post was 6 years ago... Here goes anyhow.
2011 IS 350 Prestige with touch screen / sat nav system. I think 2011 is '2IS' for second gen (?) in this forum.
I'm trying to figure out how to keep the radio / accessories on when pushing the 'Engine Stop / Start' button, when stopping the engine after parking. At the moment, everything turns off whereas key ignition cars leave the radio on when turning the key one position back. Hitting the Engine button again for accessories means the system takes 10 secs to reboot so isn't convenient - usually it's an interesting story on the radio that might go on for a bit but you don't want to sit there with the engine idling unnecessarily, looking dodgey.
I searched for this topic but couldn't find a match so hopefully this hasn't been asked before and maybe it's a common gripe. Not sure if other push button ignition cars have the same inconvenience.
Thanks for having me aboard. Ahoy!

Replying to my own thread - how sad.
Anyhoo, after two (2) years of owning my car, I found out that if you press the 'START/STOP' (when stopped) and the trans is in anything but P (park), the engine stops AND the radio / accessories stay ON, as I wanted.
Mind blown moment.
Then I checked the manual... and there it was.

Found a couple of old ipods at home. Used one, works great. Thanks for the heads up
I'm starting to find the old iPod too hard to transfer songs to - iTunes logic defies me these days - I select songs and use 'Copy to device #name' but the transfer never happens.
I'd love to be totally wireless. I wonder what stops music being played over BlueTooth when voice calls are fine. Is there a magic App that fools the car's BT into thinking it's a voice call when playing music?? Searching the App Store, I can't see anything.
Newer iOS devices won't talk to my 2011 IS via USB either. Again, an App that converts to an older USB comms protocol could fix it. Anyone know what the soft/firmware protocol / versions need to be?

I'm so glad I could provide useful information - I'm always sponging off of others!

I use an old iPod - it is loaded with my music. Plug it into the USB and it works fine - skip controls etc on the steering wheel all work. You can still pair your phone via Bluetooth at the same time of course. Not as convenient as using a single device but it's a good compromise.

Actually, it's $1,330 for an IS350 ($1,150 was for IS250). Not sure what the extra $180 is for...
Can do my own plugs and filters but want someone else to do the rest. But someone who knows what they're doing of course.

Anyone have any current prices for this service?
I'm about to get my IS350 done - Lexus are $1,150. I tried a few Toyota service centres but some wouldn't quote, however one did and it was $1,200!
Anyone know mechanics who specialise in IS, in Sydney (pref inner to outer west)?

There could be an umpire in there somewhere
