KiwiNZ Posted January 29, 2004 Posted January 29, 2004 Keep in mind here people that I am no A1 Mechanic here................ 1/ Is there an easy solution to turning off the annoying beep noise that is on jap cars when reversing? Can i fix it myself or does it need a specialist? If I can, how? 2/ When i got my altezza the wheel/axel (Place where the tyre bolts into) needs a paint as it is showing some minor rust which is visible and a bit ugly looking... I need advise on which paint/primer (If it needs it) to use.... or does that too require a specialist? (Hopefully not) Any help would be great Cheers
lextcy Posted January 29, 2004 Posted January 29, 2004 1) The beeping is a safety feature even with the IS200's (manuals only though). I think it would be wise to keep it. But since I have an E-shift, I dont really know how annoying it is :D 2) Are you talking about the calipers? If so, you can paint them yourself
KiwiNZ Posted January 29, 2004 Author Posted January 29, 2004 Hi, Thanks for the reply... I am talking about what looks like what you have covered up in paper in your photo. What would I need? sand, primer and coat? or just coat?
Jase Posted January 29, 2004 Posted January 29, 2004 hi kiwinz don't you like the beep? I love the beep man, it's saved my car's ass a couple of times! haha.. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...&hl=revers+beep try this man, from the UK forum you're talkin about the round bit in the center of the brake discs right?
Hoon Posted January 29, 2004 Posted January 29, 2004 The reverse beep has also saved my butt a few times. when at stop signs i find if i go to put into first gear too fast and hard it can sometimes pop into reverse. I will deffinitly keep my beep :) with painting the cars hubs I used CRC brakeclean to remove any silicon and oil residue then gave the rusty areas a scuff with coarse sandpaper. Then painted with VHT engine enamel which is heat, oil and chemical resistant.

Wont the rust eventually return if you just sandpaper or steel brush the effected areas and then paint with VHT engine enamel? Anyone done this yet? Actually any official Lexus people might be interested in this post......
franco Posted February 26, 2004 Posted February 26, 2004 1/ The beep - yes, it's saved my bacon a few times, esp when I first got the car and was still getting used to the idiosyncrosies of the manual shift - it felt way too easy to slip it into Reverse as opposed to 1st. Am used to it now, but I don't think I would get rid of the beep anytime soon, just in case. 2/ I'd be interested in a response to Manic's question. My hubs are all ugly and brown. It's typical for jap imports. I noticed in the photo above that the brake calipers were being spray painted? It looks pretty easy and thinking of doing this - anyone got any comments or tips ?
Hoon Posted February 26, 2004 Posted February 26, 2004 Q. Wont the rust eventually return if you just sandpaper or steel brush the effected areas and then paint with VHT engine enamel? I also used the VHT primer/undercoat so the rust hopefully wont be a problem, so far so good.
