Hi all, I've just bought a 1998 GS300 and this is my first post here so apologies if I sound a bit stupid.

After driving and whenever the vehicle comes to a complete stop, there is this noise that comes from the engine bay that sounds like either the brakes are squealing or the engine is revving very loud. It only happens below 1000rpm. I don't think its the brakes as they feel quite strong especially when braking from high speeds.

Its becoming rather annoying as I used to have an Avalon before and even that didn't have this kind of noise. Especially because the GS is generally far more quiet, the noise is really evident when coming to a complete stop.

Does anyone here know about this problem? A friend was saying it may me the engine brakes but I thought that was only on trucks! Any suggestions as to what it may be or any help or input will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again

Hello mate,

Is the noise a bit of a squeel then?

Sounds like your power steering pump to me.

May now need replacing, may just be low on fluid, rubbers perishing etc.

Cheers,

JJ
