  1. I've just picked up my ‘new’ 1999 GS300 and have some general questions that I hope seasoned GS owners can help me with.

    excellent :)

and your pics are where? :D

Q1. The previous owner of my vehicle did a lot of urban driving, whereas I will mainly use it for long-distance cruising. Do I need to do anything (e.g. reset the ECU) in order for the vehicle to adapt to it’s new use?

resetting the ECU will not completely "unlearn" the driving style.

to do this you need to disconnect your battery for around 15 minutes.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR RADIO CODES ETC IF YOU ARE GOING TO DO THIS

Q2. How many RPM should I expect the vehicle to be doing at 100km/h? At the moment, the vehicle is doing about 2500rpm @ 100km/h (my previous vehicle was a 3L V6 and did about 2300rpm @ 100km/h). It's nice to know what's 'normal'...

been a while since I drove a GS300 - but that does not seem unreasonable, certainly wouldn't worry about it.

Q3. Sometimes some of the LCD elements on the stereo’s display are very dim (sometimes to the point of being invisible), whereas at other times they are OK (especially when backlit). I don't know whether to have it looked at or whether it's something simple (like aconnection problem)...

    have a look at lextech.org ;)

Now that I've been spoilt by a GS300, I'm looking forward to updating to a GS430 when the time comes  :D

hehehe - enjoy your new car mate, don't worry about getting a different one just yet! :D

  2. I ordered a set of the Prolex-UK eyelids for the Lexus GS a while back.

They arrived a few days ago, fitted them the day before yesterday, and managed to get some pics today.

The eyelids themselves arrived well wrapped and protected. They were individually wrapped in bubble wrap to protect the paint, and the box was liberally stuffed with newpaper to protect them in transit.

I ordered them prepainted, which was very well done.

They also came pre-taped, which was a real plus, as I had trouble finding double sided tape for the ones on my IS.

Fitting was real easy - I simply

    - offer up the pieces a few times to get the feel of how to place them,

    - cleaned the headlight glass thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol, and then wiped clean

    - unpeeled the tape and put in place.

    - held in place for a minute to let them "set" a bit (which probably wasn;t necessary - the tape is very sticky).

    - covered them in ultra low tack masking tape overnight.

all in - 15 minutes - really easy job.

Some pics of them on the car.

I am pretty happy with them.

I know they won't be to everyone's liking, but I think that its a very nice, subtle styling mod. Makes the headlights look less like MB lights - and I like to think makes the front end a little "meaner" :D

overall very pleased with them - would love to hear what you guys think :D

  4. yeah can get kings for the IS series, they will be fine for lowering it. depends how far u lower it, but the handling should get abit better.. havent heard anything bad about them.. i have similar ones on mine which i lowered 3' at the rear and 2' at the front.. a bit rougher ride, but looks sweet.

    ouch - thats low :o

guess you guys dont have speed bumps down there?

  6. OK, organised! I'm going to catch up with Ian in early May and get more pictures and an article together. Should be just as it all gets put together.

excellent news Keith - well done sir!

keep me informed on this mate - and let me know if I can help putting the piece together.

there is substantial interest in this car - a worldwide scoop would be nice B)

  7. if anyone can get photos etc together - we can make a decent article on this.

I would post it on the UK and US boards too - this is the sort of thing that needs to be shared with the world! B)

make sure we get a watermark on the pics we put in the gallery, so people hear about the club if the pictures get posted elsewhere ;)

  8. ok guys

    my apologies.

looks like LOCNZ had just got itself its first banned member.

    If anyone ever receives this sort of stuff in their pm box please;

    - ignore it. It is a scam. End of debate, do not enter into any correspondence with the sender.

    - report it to one of the moderators or management team here. they know how to handle it ;)

  9. The Lexus Owners Club is proud to announce its latest addition to the club - The Lexus Owners Club Members Online Garage

    What is the Garage?

The Garage is a vehicle database/registry system for automobile enthusiast sites. Users can enter their automobile information and list all of their modifications they have added with pictures along the way. Other members can search out vehicles and leave comments in the guestbook.

It is a free, online representation of your car, and any of its modifications.

    You can add

    - pictures of your car,

    - pictures of individual mods

    - full details of mods, date, price to purchase, price to install, and ratings

Your Garage also has its own guestbook, so other people can comment on your car!

The Garage is not only free for you to use - but you are also welcome to link to your Garage in your signature or such on other websites and forums (why type a signature with details of your car - when you can just put a direct link into full details, photos - and even your guestbook! B) )

The Garage tracks and displays the top 5

    - newest car

    - newest modifications

    - latest updated car

    - latest updated modifications

    - most modded

    - most money spent

    - most views

    - latest guestbook comments

How do I use the Garage?

Click here to access the Garage

Once you are in the Garage, click on Create New Vehicle in the box in the top left hand corner.

You must be a member of this club to create a vehicle - if you are not already a member, simply click here to register for free - once registered you will be able to create your own garage.

Enter the details of your car - do not list all your mods here - you add mods individually later.

Once you have created your vehicle, start adding the details of your mods.

We have tried to supply all the common categories of modifications - however, if you feel there are categories missing, just post them here and we will rectify that!

As well as photos of the car - you can also add photos of individual mods - just the ticket for showing off them aftermarket rims B)

    Its that easy!

Once your car is entered - you can keep updating it as you get more mods / photos, or start giving out the link to your friends etc B)

We hope you enjoy the garage - if you have any feedback, please post it below, or pm me. :D

  11. yeah i know hot to do that but bowl.gif, but his code is ":bowling:"and it wont work here, how can we get more?

    Tomcat.gif

Dont exactly want any specifics just more variety please.

    http://www.mysmilies.com/?cat=violent

    http://www.clicksmilies.com/

    http://www.smiliesunlimited.com/

its not that the code for that smiley is :bowling: - that is simply the way the admin of the THAT forum has set it up - there is no universal smiley code.

These things are rightfully called emoticons, and the idea is the graphically represent an emotin, and are used to portray an emotion, and to add clarity to a post.

    so we have the

    "I find this funny :lol::lol: "

    or

    "this is cool B) "

the examples you have provided so not seem to have any purpose? Am I missing the emotion the bowling smiley convays

I am quite happy to add more smileys - but the ones you have suggested don't seem to add any value sorry.

If you have any specific smileys (not just "cool" ones - you can always link these from another site), then please do post them. :)
