  1. The name of the guy the lexus dealer gave me was extremely hesident when i called him to ask him. And went for the upsell of installing two lcds in the back of each front seats with individual dvd players so the back passengers could watch separate things.

Not exactly what I want as I have no kids...only my dog rides in the back.

Still never got a chance to do the mod on the weekend...got called in for an urgent c-section

  2. Yeah...i had always liked the look of the new shape BMW, but after driving one, and finding that the standard car has no bells or whistles - it was extremely disappointing. To option the BMW 325i as close as I could to the IS250 SL, it would cost more than buying an M3. BMW options are way overpriced, and i believe should be standard.

Thats why I went with mercedes for my 1st car - at least it performed better on the road, and had more things standard. Then I splashed out and went with the AMG coz it looks like a nice sedan...and noone knows what it can really do when you put your foot down. (unless they are car people)

  3. Not too happy if they are changing the model in 2010 instead of 2012. *BLEEP*s me how they always seem to bull*BLEEP* about this info. Been caught out with BMW once, and my mercedes after having it for 18months suddenly a new model appears after being promised it wasnt due for a makeover in 5 years.

Now it seems lexus have jumped on that too to make a quick sale knowing full well the model will be obsolete in the near future.

  4. to set them to lock automatically when in drive, and unlock automatically in park the dealer had to do it with their IT machine.

Took 30seconds when i asked...coz i got sick of front passenger being locked in when they want to jump out quick, and need to manually unlock.

Again...so used to the merc that when the doors are locked...if you attempt to open the door from the inside...it always overrides the lock on that door...unless you have the child lock set.

  5. you have to use the button to manually fold the mirrors in.

With regards to the tilting when reversing, have the button for controlling either mirror pressed to either the left or right side for it to work. If you toggle the switch to the centre...it is disabled (at least that is on the sports luxury)

I dont know why they dont have a setting to autotilt them when you put it in park, like automatically unlocking all the doors.

  6. I was torn between a metallic red X, that arctic blue X or the sportsluxury - and coz I got the sports luxury with 42km on it, and it was registered, didnt have to pay LCT or DD, and it ended up being cheaper than getting the X brand new.

memory seats, heat/cooling, auto steering moving, autodimming mirrors, precollision sensor, xenon headlights and adaptive lights tho got me...after driving the sportts luxury for a weekend at night..then the X....you really miss all those extras that at the time didnt seem significant - so i went with the SL, despite not having sports suspension and nice wheels

Now I see that red X all the time...it lives about 2 streets from me.

  7. Went for a quick drive in the black IS-F in Perth on Saturday. Test drives are actually booked out weeks in advance, but I managed to sneak

a quick lap around the block between tests.

The look is awesome, love the front side cooling vents. The fake quad tail pipes look cool. Nice interior, wish my IS250 SL had that finish and not the wood grain.

The power was bordering on scary. Being thrusted back into your seat was almost uncomfortable when the revs go about 4000. Definately felt more sporty

than my old C class AMG. You seem to feel more part of the car in the IS-F and get the feeling of pulling some serious G's. In the merc it just felt quiet and comfortable despite fast acceleration.

Very easily got to 120 in a 60 zone then braked very hard to get back into the speed limit.

Very fast gear changes, but the beeping gets annoying pretty fast

I can't believe it only has seat warmers tho, and not both warming and cooling.

I just need a spare $145k now - unless they decide the sell this demo one and avoid some LCT ;)

  8. 2007 Model with about 18,000km on it.

It seemed to improve after the 15,000km service but it is still noticeable now and then.

I will probably take the car to them when time permits and see what they can do :)

I also have a feeling it is cat related. Maybe you get the smell when the cat is still cold/ish, does it smell after extended driving?

I've never had the smell but do use premium unleaded, not sure if that makes a difference or not.

I only get that smell if i really flog the car when its not warm on short trips to the videoshop.

I use BP 98 octane...and get the same smell on my merc when I thrash that too if it isnt warmed up

  9. Why don't you scout out a demo model or ring interstate dealers.

Also I know from experience that they rarely take you seriously if you ring a dealer.

Go there in person and see what they will do for you.

I agree with Art on the X demos, definately a good option if your budget is a bit tight. The good thing with Lexus is that they utilise loan cars with their servicing. They on average, they will only keep the car in the loan phase untill it hits the 5K mark. Then they will sell it. The dealers wont always see them so you will have to scout around. One thing I did prior to buying new was utilise a broker to find me a pre-loved cars. He had a lot of contacts that had access to these cars. For me, it ended up more beneficial to buy new, but this could be a good option if you want to save some cash!!

Definately. I got a 2008 IS250 sports luxury that was their "Australian Car of the Year" display car on a road show around australia sold from lexus australia to lexus of perth. It was registered and had only 42km on it. I avoided dealer delivery, and LCT on it. Ended up saving close to $19000 as it was "pre-owned" but only 42km. I thought the advertisement must of been a mistake and it was 42000km.
