I am up for new tyres soon on my IS250
1. FRONT 8" +45mm - I am going from 225/40R18 to 235/40R18 (I am suer this will be OK)
2. REAR 8.5" +50mm - I am going from 245/40R18 to 255/40R18
The new models run 255/35R18 on the rears, do you think this will make much difference? I am also after some serious rim protection as well!

my 50k service on my car, everything came back perfect but was told that I need
to replace my front brakes – Disc and pad.
Here is my detail:-
Car: 2011 Lexus IS250 (bought brand new,
everything original)
Purpose: 95% city driving 5% highway
Main Driver and passenger: Mum and 3 y.o kid
Driving style: careful driving
Conclusion from this thread: DBA T2 + Bendix GCT pad
Issue: Bowen Yong was complaining “these pads are pretty *BLEEP* compare to OEM” and soft pumping, some also complaint about squel
Issue 2: Mechanic are suggesting this combination is an overkill for the purpose and suggest RDA disc and RDA pad for a saving of $150.
What I want: Performance as close to original braking system but less dust.
It seems like the more I read this thread and ask around the more confused I get with choices. I am currently thinking either an RDA disc
with Bendix GCT or should I just go DBA with Bendix GCT
Problem with EBC = Dust
Any opinion?
What did you end up doing?

EBC Red Stuff A$200 (are these ceramic?)
I do not intend to machine or change the rotors unless advice from installer.

Yes, I would take it back to Lexus for their advice, my IS250 is coming up for the same 5 year service and I would be concerned if the the fuel consumption increased from the already thirsty V6. It may have to do with the tyres (or the new fuel sensor) but only if the ratio has changed on the back from a 255/40/R18 to a 255/35/R18
That is the fuel consumption for an IS350.

OK so you think these would be the best, I have been on the internet and you can go forever with brands and prices.
We are talking 2010 IS250.

OK, so the front are approx Aus$200 delivered, forum members please advise...
QUESTION 1: Would need to change the backs as well (minimum dust) or OK to run these pads on the front only.
QUESTION 2: If existing pads are still OK then would I need to machine the existing rotors.

Do you think the EBC Pads would be enough to stop the brake dust?

I had my 2010 IS250 from new, and brake dust from day 1, so I think ANY alternative pads on the front would be a huge improvement, I am thinking ceramic.

The car is sold, did you buy it? I wouldn't worry about what the dealer says (unless it is a Lexus Dealership) because they really don't know. If you are after a Lexus then know your model, the group can help. I would know everything about the IS Series but nothing about the GS Series.

It is a Prestige with Enhancement Package 2 - Mine is the same but a 2010, the Enhancement Package 1 comes with a moonroof but no camera (work that out)

If you are looking at a IS250 2010 then I can advise you the specifics, the 2010 is the one with the clean front, not the one as pictured in one of the above post.

Hi, I am just need some feedback if anyone has had issues with ceramic pads. I am seriously thinking of changing the original ones later this year. Brake dust is my biggest concern together with the noise (this is apparently normal and to do with the ABS function)
QUESTIONS:
1. Do front and back need to be ceramic.
2. Do rotors need machining (skimming).
3. The Redstuff ceramic pads brand on eBay seem relatively cheap.
4. Can I trust a non Lexus brake specialist to change them.
My concern is if it is not broke don't fix it but the brake dust is driving me crazy, I guess I am happy to keep using IRON-X

Yes I have a 2010 IS250, usually if you have a screen you have a DVD in there, I have updated toWhereis - Denso V18 and usually skip the V19 and will now upgrade to V20 (Release date May 2014) BUT if you have a 2012 you probably have V19 so I would wait for V21. REASON: The difference between V19 and V20 is not noticeable. I think you can get a genuine Version 20 from Whereis for $295.00. In fact I may wait for V21 if I am going to spend that money.

may have been brought up before. cant find the info anywhere including google.
just wanna know what diff ratios the is200/300 use across the different models and how i find out what mine has.
i have a 4spd auto is200 possibly sports model. have looked under the car didnt know what i was looking for. but it has a sticker something something like 06/2005 or something on it. looked like a date. car is 2001 model. so for a start thats odd.
what im looking for is lowering the revs if possible. car is almost all highway. so if i could drop the revs a bit might save me some fuel.
any suggestions on what i might have or how i can find out. then also what fits in?
if there is something i can add in that will say take it from a 4.1 to a 3.1 or something major like that from another car i might also be keen. i know it will be an absolute slug off the line. buts sitting around 3000rpm at 100km/h seems a bit high. silly 4spd.
also... is it possible for an auto to slip? seems like a CVT auto sometimes when i take off from the lights. speed goes up with out revs climbing that much when im at like mid throttle.
I didn't think it came with CVT, perhaps the transmission is slipping and in regard to the revs, check the manual to see if that is correct, also check that the tyre/rim combination is correct. You can also change the revs by altering this combination.

Hey guys. So unfortunately I habe the base model which didnt come with the lsd...
Wanting to have a bit more fun with the car so what is needed to get an lsd. Is it as simple as buying the sports model lsd and staight swapping over or are the cases and drive shafts different??

Another idea, there are a couple of mobile touch up specialists in Perth, the can possibly paint the grill surround in whatever colour you like while it is on the car. I am guessing it is around $150.00
(they will do undercoat, colour then clear coat) - the other solution is to DIY same process with paint cans still going to cost about $75.00 in 3 cans. See how this goes then do the window surrounds. OR do the plastic dip, you can have it matt and then apply the satin plastic dip clear to make it look less matt, this way you can peel it off.

I just changed mine to HAWKS Ceramic. Little brake dust.
Hi kp_april, I am just wondering if you could give me more info, as you are in WA. Where did you get the HAWKS ceramic pads from and where did you get them done. It seems that any pads other then the original Lexus pads would be better, I have spoken to Lexus of Perth and they advised that they only use ORIGINAL Lexus replacement parts.

I suggest a Black Chrome, (This can be done if the grill surround is Chrome, it is a paint process and is hi-gloss) let me know if you are interested.

My Kuhmo 225/40/R18 sit flush with the rim as well and I am hoping that 235/40/R18 may be slightly better, apparently Pirelli P1 235 have a better rim protection but don't have a 255 for the rear. (I think is is something to do with the Lexus rims)
