  1. hi all

I'd like to change some of the 'settings' on the RX350 such as:

    1. making all the doors open with one press of the remote

    2. maybe making the sunroof not open with all the windows?

    3. disabling the steering wheel movement when the engine's turned off

there are a few other things which I can't remember right now!

THe manual says to see the dealer, but I was wondering whether it's possible to do this at home via some secret combo of key turns or something?

If done at the dealer, is it something they could do free, or only as part of a regular service?

    thank you

    Satz

This should be a no charge driveway reprogram very easy to do... Ask at the service depmartment and let them know your looking at up grading in the very near future it always helps ie no cost and a free cup of coffee..

  2. Hey, can forum posters recommend excellent mechanics in Melbourne please? I have a 1995 Lexus LS400 and is due for a 160,000km service. It also has a problem common to many Lexus LS400s where the engine intermittently stalls after long periods of high speed cruising. This time, I would like to give the job to someone who really knows these cars. I hope you guys can help me out TIA .... Greg

Most dealerships should have master techs at least the foreman being one. This is a requirement of lexus for the dealership to maintain their lexus contract so make sure you have one of these techs do the job..I personally know the guys out at Melb, blackburn and brighton all able to do this job... Note you may also be looking at a sensor/water pump as these should be checked and replaced at the same time.Cost of replacing these later is quite expensive.(labour)

  3. I have an 02 LX470 and have just purchased a new ver 12 satnav dvd. Does anyone know if this is a dealer only install or if it can be done personally?

    thanks

    Andrew

    Better late than never...

the head unit is located under the drivers seat, tilt the seat up and all the way forward..Remove the cover 2 screws expose unit press button disc ejects incert new disc and wait till screen tells you it has loaded....

  4. Hi i have seen and repaired the problem with the high pitched squeal noise.. it is a relay that is dying located in the master cylinder(the electrical side) most dealerships have been made aware of these... they also have the information on how to repair.. i believe the cost of a new master clyinder was 2k> The parts can be had for less than $10 and then the labour much cheaper option. Good luck with your endeavours..

  5. Hey guys,

Just wondering how to change the brake light bulb in the middle of the rear window? I've had a good look and cant figure it out. Any ideas where I can download an owners manual?? Oh yeah.. I got an IS200 (2000 mdl)

    Hi, vai_is200

you have to lift the rear of the cover as well as retracting it towards you.. To help lift it use a wide thin blade object..( i use a peice of perspecs)

  6. :P

usually all body kits are aweful when it comes to fitment

not all panel shop have some tradesman who have the patience to fit and refit to suit your vehicle

on the gold coast there is only 1 specialist body kit fitter thats still in buisiness

    tweed heads

fabtech has gone broke the others are back yarders who glue the kit on with windscreen adhesive

if you hit a speed hump(and believe me you will) now 2-3 inches lower

your kit needs to have some give

other wise your bar guards and anything attached to it will break

check out your fitter and pay the extra few hundred and enjoy that fat look alot longer

Hi streetlegal, i have fitted a body kit on the new is250 (front ,rear spoilers sideskirts, boot and exhaust tips) the kit was complete and supplied by lexus spareparts (aka toyota). easy to fit, looks great and not the type that would, scape on the pavement..

Although an x-tech home handy man skills only required with some commen sense...

  7. Yep Palms.

Have run into some hagling issues with my dealer. Thought I was getting trade price, but when I put the car in to have the towbar fitted, they would not do it for trade price, but said they would do fit it and only charge 2 hours labour. Lexus have said it should be 3 hours.

So, the price quoted then became $1,290. This makes it very interesting as the RRP on the towbar and wiring kits was $960. So, 2 hours of labour costs $330 !!!

I am in the wrong business. How can any garage charge $175 an hour for labour!

So, I have delayed any decision and talking to a few of my friends in the industry to get them to get it and fit for trade price, and maybe a whole lot cheaper on fitting!

Why not buy the the bar and get some one else to fit it...(another workshop)Take it from me it aint that difficult to fit, it comes with very detailed instructions and only basic hand tools required.

  8. With reguards to the key problem. Lexus has found that the frequencyof the remote pads were similar to that of the scanners that are used in the shopping complexes... Also some telephone towers ..The fix for the IS250s requires a replacement chip and keyfob, that opperates on a different frequency...If you are having troubles you need to push the issue to get the upgrade..

  9. I like these tips, thanks for taking the time to post.

    I have a ?

I still don't understand why when i open the drivers side door to get in no other door opens, my passengers have to wait until i get in the car to open it manual from the inside, anyone got a tip?

    palms

i believe it is a safety issue, that way no person can sneak in on you while your getting in.... you can how ever get lexus dealership to reset your smart remote to all door unlock.(free service) :D

  10. hi. i don,t think your problem is in the disc... i have myself inserted an australian sat nav disc (ver 10) into a jap inport LS430 with no luck, i didn,t work.... the unit reported wrong discn or something like that.. i then put the orignal jap disc back in and it worked... well it would be great if i needed a map of japan....

so i think your problem lies else where... try disconnect unit/battery and see if the unit resets... good luck

  11. Mmmm don,t under stand why you play in service mode.. Tech only use this feature to diagnose problems with the system..... OK.. 2 ways to do this....1 what you will need to do is take it to a dealer ship and explain what happened.. this course of action will let the tech know how and where to look... the sat nav units have different configurations think i counted 8 or so...2 ignorance also serves well when it comes to a warranty..

    Good luck..

  12. HI i,m not familiar with the rx300 although i have worked on a few.... seems to me that you need to ask the dealership for the fault code and the reason why you had the sensor replaced.. So let me see the replacement lasted a few days and failed... My bet would be that it,s a poor connection some where... the tech found a code(oxy sensor out of range or some thing like that) and deemed the sensor faulty with out checking the unit it,s self.... hope it helps..

  13. I,m sorry to inform u, but it,s true... i service these vehicles (lexus master tech) and it is common... i have seen vehicles as low as 14k and as high as 40k that required replacement pad/disc,s.. Most customers average 20k+ before they require a pad and disc machine.. the trade off is excellent braking at the cost of frequent replacement.... The warranty replacement was due to disc variation in thickness(casting) which when hot warped and produced the pedal pulsation. This was common on early models and have since been solved.(reworked disc).. hope this helps you out..

  14. Just happen to find that the coolant of my IS200 is in the middle between lower and upper line of the see-through. Just wondering where should I pull in the coolant, through the reservoir cap or radiator cap ? The owner manual only tell you to top up but does not say where should you pull the coolant to. Can I used the tap water to top up instead of the Toyota Super Long Life Coolant ? Thanks for the help

to top up such a small amount tap water will do fine. You will notice that the reservoir will hold less than a litre between the two level marks..

super long life coolant is pink in colour

long life coolant is red in colour

sll is changed every 80k and ll is changed every 40k

    hope this helps...

  15. The RX was the previous "no room to negotiate" model.

A friend of mine just bought one last week in Melbourne and surprise, surprise, managed to negotiate it down around $10,000 from the on-road price from just 4 months ago.

We aren't talking Picassos here. We are talking a mass market car with a premium price tag for Australia.

There is a lot of room for Lexus to move with the 250 and if they don't, it is because they won't, not because they can't.

As we all know, when a new model hits the market it comes to supply and demand... If we look to the past it will show us the future.. If you wait you can and will get your discount... Brighton tend to stand firm Melbourne a little easier.. Blackburn new to the lexus team are hungry for a position.. Wyndam was the place to buy, alais no more.. my suggestion wait if you can......

  16. Why don`t we all get a log going ( would help us Altezza lads in the UK Massively ) of the fault codes on the Altezza:

A little while ago i needed to find out some fault codes, as the people over here have nothing to cross reference them with, Ths cannot solve the problem.... And i asked you good people if you knew what they were.... an true to form i was helped and managed to get my car sorted out...

I`ll start the ball rolling with the one i had...

Engine 15 [P1306] Ignition signal, Wiring connector, Ignition Coil, Engine control computer.

Need to check coil pack #2, would explain poor idle and power loss.

I would be happy to help out when i can with fault codes..( provided i am given time) I am a master tech for a lexus dealer in Australia.. and have access to manuals and disc,s.. I know what it,s like working on imports with little or no support.
