Hi,

Another noob question, I've done a search but didn't seem to find anything that related to this.

When driving in the normal drive mode (D) and changing the dash display (above the tacho and speedo) to show the gear position I can see that it changes up and down normally from 1 - 6 etc.

But when I switch the gear lever to 'S' mode the little display above the S that shows the gears seems not right. They shift up and down OK when I use the paddles to change gears, but when slowing the car down to a stop the number stays at 6 (or whatever the highest gear was last used), but on the display above I can see the gears dropping down to 1. Then when I set off and shift up using paddles, the display above shifts up normally, but the little number above the S stays on the 6 and doesn't go up or down.

Not sure if this is normal but I noticed this today when driving my IS350. I've never driven it in 'S' mode until today. Has anyone else seen this?

As far as I can tell that number next to the "S" is only an indicator of the highest gear the car can shift to, and not an indication of the actual gear you are in.

As above. The number in S mode is just what you've restricted the cars available gears to. So if u've got 1 showing it'll just keep bouncing off the limiter on Gear 1. If it shows 2 than car can use first 2 gears. Think of it as automatic with gear restriction rather than a manual over-ride.

If you're an enthusiastic driver you should be able to work with it and get the car to be in the gear u want. Takes a while but you'll get used to it. Otherwise, as always, if you want full control you'll have to get a manual, or an ISF lol

S in the isX50 range acts as a gear limiter not manual mode
