I have recently returned to Australia from living in Japan for quite a few years. I have brought back a 2006 Harrier 240GL. I have made no modifications and it is pretty much the factory standard vehicle and as far as Oz compliance goes it passes through with ease as its a virtual mirror of the Lexus of the time. Problem is I cannot find anyone who will insure it. The one place that has offered insurance will cover maximum $23k for over $900 premium.

Any other Harrier owners out there in Oz that can tell me who you insured through. The big players put it in the too hard box as its not made here, but nor are 90% of the cars on the road.

Repost from the other thread you made.

Big insurance companies won't go near imports. Try Hard2Place, Shannons, or Just Car Insurance.

Btw, would love to see a pic of your harrier mate!

The 90% of cars you are referring to are Australian complianced. YOur Harrier falls into the Low volume/personal import category and thus the big brand insurers are not interested. As per the above reply, try Shannons and Just Cars Insurance as they specialise in these unique vehicles, or you could enlist a car insurance broker to do the leg work for you. Be prepare to pay a hefty premiums for comprehensive covers.

Thanks for the responses. Just Cars are after $900 for comprehensive with a 25k cap on it. I may have no choice but to go with them. I do also agree that the 90% of cars are Aussie compliance, but as part of the import my car is also. A mate at one of the bigger insurers actually said to me just today that its because the insurers dont want to take the risk that overseas parts will be hard to obtains/ expensive in the case of an accident. That makes sense to me I guess, the irony is my car is identical to a Lexus aside from name. Cannot convince them of that though unfortunately.

Sorry, dont have a picture of it, but its identical o the one half way down the page on this link: http://soarer.tv/Service/

I've owned a grey import car some years ago and the insurance premium was so high that I got rid of it. You may find that the insurance premium in year one is acceptable (kinda like a bait to get you signed up) and then it sky rocketed in year 2. To be frank, I wouldn't import it if I was you coz it's so difficult to insure let alone trying to sell it later on.

Looking at the pic, your car is equivalent to the Lexus RX330. Just curious if yours comes with a 3.3l V6 or is it a smaller engine?

What if you take the Harrier badges off and replace them with Lexus?

I once had an Audi (full Australian compliance) that the previous owner had registered as a Volkswagen - caused me no end of bother.
