  1. To 'last 1' - sounds as if there could be a problem, or you are just a very consistent driver. After filling up, my 'Range Approx' value varies a fair bit, based on my efficiency over the last couple of tanks. It can 480, 540, 560 or as high as 720km. Sounds as if yours might need re-calibrating.

Interesting. I had always thought that it reset itself to a 'default' reading whenever I filled up. I always presumed that even though I'd never reached the default mileage, it would be achievable if I was doing more highway driving. My driving is mostly local, and a full tank lasts me about a fortnight. I'm curious to see what the reading is next time I fill up. I'll post my result.

  2. +1

I got 18s because I did a deal on Lexus wheels when buying the car. Lexus doesn't stock anything larger for the IS. I would probably have gone 19s had I not done a deal and bought after-market instead. Heck, if Lexus offered 20s for the IS it would have been a 'green light' to go them! But they don't. Make what you will out of that.

I reckon 20s would be a bit too hard of a ride though - unless you could tweak the suspension.

  3. The 'Approx Range' reading after a 'fill' is based on previous consumption. On a trip from Melb to Canberra, I filled to the top at Glenrowan (after 200kms on the freeway). It gave a mid 700kms figure.

Hmmm.... Let me get this straight. I get 500km (give or take 10) out of every tank of fuel. Yet my reading still resets to 575km after every fill (no I don't refill when I've still got a quarter tank, I wait till it tells me I've got less than 20km to go). Is mine broken, optimistic, or just mathematically challenged?

  4. I usually wait till the trip computer tells me I have less than 20 k to go before filling the tank. I get 500k out of it. It all depends on where you drive highway/city and how you drive the car. I do very little freeway driving but heaps of stop/start driving in traffic.

I only fill it up with PULP, though the salesman told me it will run on regular for a while - if I ever get stuck.

I'm as conscious about fuel costs as the next guy I guess. The IS250 fits somewhere between the V8 I wish I had under the bonnet, and the SMART car I would never drive - even if I could buy one for $100.00 :D

  5. 1) My installer is unable to install the kit as the box do not really give a detailed step-by-step instruction on where everything goes

Mine was installed prior to me picking up the car, and seeing it only had 4 km on the clock when I picked up the car, Lexus must have had an installer come in to do the job.

    2) Where on the dash do you install the "dud" button? Am a bit concerned about destroying the trim as it involves drilling

The "dud" button I'm referring to is on the steering wheel. Right hand side just above the "DISP" button. It looks like there should be an operative button there (there is on the SATNAV model).

The button I use to operate the phone is about the size of a 20c coin and sits just to the left of the gear selector on the centre console. When I picked up the car, I asked

    'what's this?'.

"It's the blue tooth you've ordered".

"Why isn't this button on the steering wheel like the demo model I drove?"

"Because it's an after market install".

Hope that helps. Why don't you ask Lexus for the contact details of the installer who's done their previous jobs?

  6. I was thinking about getting HIDs on my car. Surely you must be able to buy them from Lexus after the sale if not at point of sale. What happens when one of the Sports models' HIDs stops working? Don't they have all the spare parts necessary to fix them? From what I understand you'll just need to purchase the globes and ballast (I think thats what they call it) and ask Lexus to fit them as if they were replacing them under warrantee (only you'll have to pay for this service)

As for the wheels, do the deal when buying the car if you like the Lexus rims. You'll get a better price trading in you brand new stock wheels and tyres, and hopefully you'll be able to negotiate an even better price at that time seeing there's the sale of an entire car involved for the sales guy. Worked for me! :)

  7. (changes doors locking at 18kms and the change in pockets which is supposed to increase leg room)

These features are on all cars with a build date after Sept 2007

I drive an Oct 07 build and can confirm my doors do lock by themselves at around 20 kph and there are the "pockets" you describe. I still think there's bugger all leg room in the rear though.

No rattles in my car though.

  8. Have the same aftermarket kit installed. When I ordered it, I thought I was getting the same sort of system that was incorporated with the factory fitted one, and hoped to fill the "dud" button on the right of the steering wheel where the factory fitted one is accessed. Not So!

However, the system works perfectly. I've used it on both my sharp and Nokia mobile phones, and it activates within 10 seconds of starting the car. Very clear and convenient. Probably couldn't drive without it now! Couldn't go back to the Blue Ant system again.

    Issues:

A couple of times (had car since last October) the link between the car and phone dissapeared and had to pair it up again. This may be a Nokia issue rather than the actual blue tooth. Never occured with my Sharp phone.

Must turn aircon off, or at least lower the fan speed if air is blowing out of the windscreen vents, as you cant be heard properly because the microphone on the top right of the windscreen picks up the 'wind noise' from the air coming out of the windscreen vents. I usually just kill the aircon when answering a call because its the fastest option available. Applies to hot days, especially within minuites of entering a hot car and the aircon is going full speed to cool it down.
