  1. Won't you get a border line on the bonnet though?

I saw an RX450h that had a similar kit and the border line was quite noticeable.

The Ventureshield stuff is supposed to be near invisible, unlike the first gen 3M stuff (So good, 3M bought the Ventureshield firm)... the 3M stuff has a more noticeable orange peel apparently. If the surfaces are cleaned properly before the install (ie claybar etc) it should be invisible. There may be a slight line due to wax buildup, but this can be cleaned with a cottonbud/cuetip.

I've seen it applied on numerous Porsches and Ferraris with no blatantly visible lines.. Up close, yeah there'll be a slightly noticeable line but thats the cost you pay for not having stone chips!

From what I recall it was a fair bit extra to have the entire bonnet covered, as I'm getting this done through my work I only have a certain budget to work with (still waiting on payroll to sign the paperwork so I can get it done! grr)

  2. I guess mine must be painted alloys - after 18 months I finally rubbed a gutter today. I guess it had to happen some time. I rubbed away the rough bit with wet and dry but there seems to be a black layer under the silver finish. They are stock wheels for the 250X.

No real damage now - just an ugly black mark on the surface of the wheel which I need to get rid of. May have to pay someone to do it.

ProjectIS can you send me the contact details for the guy that did yours?

I recently grazed my rear wheel on a gutter. I got it fixed by United Wheel Techs - 0425 305 590 (Say Curran's Auburn referred you for special pricing) they came out to my place and fixed it then and there for a reasonable price and they did an excellent job.

Care to share before/after photos (if you have them?) and the $ damage?

  3. Just as a follow up here, we had a nasty service shock from Lexus of Newcastle....

I strongly feel that issues like this should be raised with the appropriate '+1' people. If it was just a lackey in the service department, speak to the service manager. If you're not satisfied with your discussion with him, contact Lexus head office. I would normally suggest the +1 above the service manager, but in such a tight knit working environment there's a tendancy for people to be pretty chummy and not really *listen* to your comments, rather favouring their colleagues position. It's easier for an outsider with interests of both the company and customer to make a sound judgement rather than an unconsciously biased work colleague.

Even a quick brief email to customer care outlining the facts in detail, is more than adequate. If you've had such an unpleasant experience with someone, there's a good chance that you're not the only person, and it the guy above him doesn't know then there's an equally good chance that this sort of thing will keep going on until someone's spoken up.

You're not paying them to be dicked around. They're also not the 'be all and end all' of the Lexus brand, and your complete satisfaction is worth more to head office than the dealer realises.

    Just my 2c...

  5. i got a quote from these guys (http://www.easyparkaustralia.com.au/shop-main/automotive-products/reverse-parking-sensors/axis-wired-4-sensor-parking-system-br/)

painted and installed for $385, what do you guys reckon?

Most kits are pretty cheap, but I'd ask about the brand/model they use to make sure it isn't a generic yumcha item that could fail down the track without spare part support. You don't want to find out that your sensors aren't made anymore and you can't find replacements that fit the existing drill holes! (Been there, done that..)

Also ask if there's any warranty against peeling/bubbling/cracking of the paint work on the sensors. I've seen painted units while walking through the shops with all of the aforementioned happening, I'd would have hated for that to happen to my old ones!
