  1. http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Lexus-IS250-2006/SSE-AD-2431470/?Cr=5&sdmvc=1 - seems okay but this draws me to my next optimal desire, original plates. If the registration is original it's easier to keep track of what's happened to the car through calling up service centres for history, etc, so pretty much late AXX-NNX plates or early BXX-BBX (X = letter, N = number).

This isn't a Sports Luxury. It has a woodgrain interior from a Sports Luxury and the wheels of a Sports - both of these models are equipped with both passenger and driver memory seating which I can't see in his pictures so I suspect it's not a Sports either. No radar button or rear shade control either = Definitely not a Sports Luxury.

I think this is most likely a prestige and he just went around getting parts from different cars.

EDIT: I can't see headlight washers either so it's definitely a prestige.

  2. Exams coming up? I'm up late watching lectures for my exams as well... I hate lecturers who speak in a monotone voice - absolute torture (admittedly I've watched more seasons of South Park during this study period than lectures...).

Familiarise yourself with the GPS interface - it's fairly simple to tell them apart just by looking at the buttons used on the GPS screen once you know both types.

A Daewoo built Cruze - the IS is certainly an upgrade from that ;) but the features seem quite nice on it!

  3. Technically, the SL would be more prone to having things fail compared to say a Prestige with no EMV option and just a CD changer but this isn't a BMW/Mercedes. The electronics used in Lexus' are very reliable.

The mid-facelift for the 2IS began in late 08 as you said but the GPS interface was updated in late 2009 models so in the middle of the middle facelift (does that make sense lol) the GPS was updated to a hard drive based system (thus gained the USB input) vs CD changer of earlier models.

I guess you're right in the sense that features don't affect the cars function as a transportation device.... but it really comes down to how much the features mean to you. Some are happy with a Camry others with a Veyron.

Ps. why are you up so late lol

  4. You need a late 2009 model for the updated GPS + USB input to control your phone. I'd go for the Sports Luxury tbh, I remember I was in a friends Prestige + EMV model and asked why her auto-wipers weren't working when it rained and apparently the car didn't have it?

They're standard on mid spec'd Camrys, I was like o.o

My car auto-locks when I drive, I didn't know it could be turned off... people that get into my car for the first time get a bit suspect when the doors lock lol.

  5. Are you sure locksmiths can program used keys?

I know they have to erase all keys already programmed into the car and that techstream requests a "reseeding" code which is only obtainable from calling up toyota - thus only head technicians at dealerships can do this.

I tried to see if I could a used key reprogrammed here in Brisbane and all the independent and specialist locksmiths told me to go to the dealer.

  6. 1. You get free cakes and coffee at the dealership... that makes it worth it, right... ;)

    2. Correct, you cannot control your phone from the GPS/Steering wheel with the AUX input of the pre-facelifts.

    3. New disc ($300) or download.

    4. Normal fob = $700 Smart Card = $1000+

    5. Tinting - who buys a car without tinting these days. Surely all used models would already have it :o

    6. I get 9.0/100km average mostly highway driving.

    7. Rattles

    8. I use it although I'm scared that people behind me think I'm a troll that keeps on braking constantly lol. It acts as a pre-collision system so will break to a stop if it detects a collision - not sure how well this works though.

    9. Anywhere you want in the car except the boot.

    10. That is a smart card found only on facelift Sports Luxury models and the ISF (key you put in your wallet and forget about). All other models have 2 key fobs.

  7. Hey guys, did a stateroad prepurchase inspection and everything seemed mechanically sound so i went ahead with the purchase. I was just wondering if anyone knows the cheapest place in Sydney to get another smart key made? Unfortunately there was only 1 provided.

    Thanks!

Used keys can't be programmed although there is a"chance" that a new one can be programmed if you import it from the US - some dealers claim that they can't as the frequency is difference but the part numbers are exactly the same and someone on here did it fine.

If you buy a techstream cable you can program it yourself too.

  8. BUT beware the shonky SL claims.

+1. A lot of Prestige optioned EMV's are advertised as Sports Luxury on carsales - even by some dealers. Look for the solid Lexus PCS emblem at the front (radar button on left of steering wheel), woodgrain interior, memory seating, HID headlights with washers, parking sensors both back and front, illuminated door sills and there should be three buttons on the side of the steering wheel closest to the door (automatic rear shade, window de-icer and something else which I've forgotten).

The steering wheel should be telescopic when you start the car, it automatically moves into position outwards and tilts and when you switch the car off the steering wheel goes back in as far as it can, this was the only video I could find of it online right at the start when the ISF starts up (fanmade music video lol):

The solid radar emblem + woodgrain should be the easiest signs of distinguishing a SL (this is on a LS460 but the same solid emblem is used for the collision system of the SL): img_1299-copy.jpg

  9. Thanks Subby, I read that it might be a warranty issue. I tried that method Franky, it just gave me a long beep :( and I think tilting mirrors are only equipped on models with memory seating.

Actually, I noticed on my drivers side when it tilts in reverse I can see the curb but on my old car the angle was tilted so that I could see the line markings in car parks (to see if I parked within the lines - horrible parker here) and a clear shot of the curb vs door + curb.

So it might be normal for the 2IS? I'll be awaiting your reply Subby :)

  10. They're definitely 4300k (if stock), when you initially turn them on they do appear white/slightly blue but after they're warmed up they're less white and have the slightest yellowing.

6000k is pure white with a blue tinge after they've warmed up, they do look nice but you'll have to compromise ~20% light output when compared with 4300k.

The headlights are tricky to get into, I tried changing the parker bulbs and it was such a pain.

Be a bit wary with philips on eBay as they're one of the most faked bulbs.
