So I got an 07 IS250 September last year and had no problems until a few months ago - when starting the ignition I hear sort of a rattle noise. Took it into Lexus for the 45k service and highlighted the problem with them. Found out that I needed to replace the VVT-i controllers (luckily still under warranty). They told me that it was only a minor issue and that I could continue driving it while they order in the new part. I've now had the problem fixed and no more rattle noise. They mentioned that it would have costed over 2k if I hadn't had the warranty.

Just wondering if any here has had the same problem? Also, my warranty runs out June this year - is it really worth extending?

i think the problem u had there was a cam gear back lash noise

and when replaced the lifters and the valve controllers has to be changed too

lexus knows about this problem. but i dont think it's a recall

but most dealers will fix it with out asking a question iv had mine fixed out of warranty as well on my old car

Mam1 - run a search on this forum for both VVTis and extended warranty - I'm confident there are dedicated topic posts for both. There is a fair bit of discussion on both issues (rather than repeat ourselves here).
