Just found out that driver's side window rattles/vibrating when driving on semi-rough roads, possibly the passenger side is rattling as well. Is it normal?... should the Lexus be rattle free and should I inform the service centre?

Thanks guys

JB

It's a typical issue with the 2IS, but you don't have to live with it.

It's most likely caused by the door seals becoming dry, and it happens particularly in cold weather.

If you take it to your Lexus service centre, they'll fix it, whatever the cause. If it's the door seals, they just require some lubrication with some special product they have.

As has been said this is common in the IS. I had this issue from the beginning and after numerous returned to the dealer I eventually gave up and live with it.

Yes it does go away with some silicon spray or similar product but it always comes back, sometimes bigger than ever.

I think my car is great but this is the one thing that *BLEEP*S me about the car, the squeak / rattle is right by your ear so even the smallest you notice.

I am guessing different cars have different levels of noise and different people will have mor eor less tolerance,

I also thing there was a fix for the seat belt pivot in the B pillar.

I've just got my IS350 back from the dealer who had it for just over a week fixing various rattles.

This was just one of them. Drivers door was adjusted and now feels a little different to close than it did before - feels like it latches a lot tighter and the rattle is gone. They are also replacing the entire door seal (on order from Japan) aswell.

I was expecting a rattle free car when paying $80k+ for a new Lexus but it has been back 4 times now in 9 months for various annoying rattles.

I had the same opinion after picking up my F and the price I paid but in the end I had to just give up and enjoy the car for what it was not how many times it was in the workshop.

They did adjust the door as the last thing and that did kind of fix it somewhat but it has recently returned again and see if I can tidy it up before thinking about returning for warranty work.

You've have me on this one, brand new + $100K car and a window / door squeak / rattle that the dealer can't fix after multiple service visits and in one case a week in the shop.

As I said I really like my car but it that really put a BIG dampener on the whole new to LEXUS experience.

Unfortunately this is not something you know you are going to get, when I test drove an F before purchasing I didn't hear anything and you obviously can't test drive your new car. So within a week of owning the car the squeak / rattle became apparent.

In the end I got fed up with returning the car to the local dealer and tried contact LEXUS Australia about it, but they are as useful as tits on a bull. You can't call them direct, you can't email them direct you have to go through a PR company and all they give you is lip service.

In the end I have to say the service team at my local dealer was great (I think ;) ) but all said and done after numerous visits they could not resolve the problem to my satisfaction. Hence I decided to drive my car and enjoy rather than keep thinking about returning it to the shop. I regularly spray my seals with Silicon, which helps sometimes but not always.

Hey I own and get to drive an F when ever I want so all can't be that bad :D

Same scenario as me ^

I've lost count as to how many times mines been back apart from usual services.

I also had a horrendous dash rattle that was hopefully fixed last week. Only happened after an hour or so of driving - obviously caused by expansion of some sort of material within the dash. Time will tell if it will return.

Another slight rattle has reappeared since they've been pulling things apart too. I'm over it. Time to just turn the stereo up and forget about it.

Dash rattle here :

^ totally unacceptable IMO.

:(

Edit - vid needs to be watched on a PC on HD preferably.

"Totally unacceptable IMO" very true!

For me LEXUS's brand is / was all about perfection. Rattles / Squeaks don't = PERFECTION.

While the service department try their best LEXUS I think really do very little.

For my I understand they got a specialist in from LEXUS Aust. to look at the problem and still nothing.

I didn't put the car in at first because of the problem you mentioned, pulling it apart and causing more rattles but I had to in the end.

Oh well keep driving and keep squirting the silicon spray lol
