  1. I'd be willing to trade my 18's for a set of 17's (5) with a brand new set of Pirelli's all round....... Looking at $2k+ for Pirelli's on my 18's. :D
  2. So I bought my IS250 Prestige (With Enhancement pack) in August 2009 from the 1st owner. I do have all the paperwork (Somewhere) but before I turn the house upside down to find it I thought that I'd pose the question here. 2007 IS250 with 80k on the clock. The car is a few months under 3 years old (From 1st purchase). Could I just take the car in to a LEXUS Service Centre (Chatswood I expect) to check whether it is still covered under warranty? The car has the cold start intermittent rattle, and after looking at that thread I see that it is a serious mechanic job. Any advice appreciated. (We've been doing renovations, so the paperwork could be stored anywhere....)
  3. Mine came with one and I can't live without it. The Nav is good, the reversing camera is awesome, but the bluetooth telephone hook up with speed dial numbers for when you are driving is great. $3,00o sounds okay for a OEM unit installed, and would likely be covered by a Lexus warranty
  4. Nope. A registered mechanic service is still covered under factory warranty. Having had 2 x BMW's, I have found with luxury cars that the differential in price is not worth it in my view. My mechanic only has fully qualified specialist mechanics who go over my cars with a fine tooth comb each service. Lexus dealers will usually put an apprentice on the easier work such as the 75k Oil and lube service.
  5. I had my 75k service done at Reliable Automotive in Artarmon last week. For $600 I had the full lube and oil change done, plus new rear brake pads and disc machining. Great guys and as their name says, they are reliable.
  6. Any chance they'd give you an ISF loaner if you hinted you were in the market for one.......
  7. Does anyone have a link to schematics for the Prestige (Or other) drivers seat? Having some work done on the seat by an upholsterer to improve the leg support, but before I let him pull it apart I want to understand how the heating/cooling for the seat works and where it fits/sits.
  8. All good. Generally I drop my car in for a service at my guy, he drops me at the station, I take a train to the city for under $5. I then take a cab back in the arvo for about $20. Add this $25 to the $250 = $275. I could take the car for a laser wash or one of those hand wash places for between $15-$40, but I do a pretty mean hand wash for the cost of a few suds and elbow grease. $660 vs. $275 = no brainer for me.......
  9. I agree and disagree. I have had some pretty bad experiences with quality brand dealer services from BMW, Volvo and Mercedes. The dealer treats you as a captive audience based on that you don't know any better. BMW - Quoted $4k by two separate dealers to rebuild my transmission. Fixed for $200 by a transmissions specialist in Meadowbank. BMW - Blown water pump. Quoted $550 to repair. Bill was $900 when I came to pick it up. I kicked up a ruckus (In a polite but firm manner) and insisted on dealing with the senior manager. Ended up with a bill for $600. Volvo - repeated requests while car was under warranty to check weirdness in transmission. When out of warranty was advised of $5k to rectify. Fought this with Volvo Australia who ended up footing the bill. I have a highly recommended independent automotive mechanic in Artarmon who has been in business for years, has been written up in the newspaper on numerous occasions for exemplary customer service, and has many times helped me out and done extra work where he didn't need to. He will use genuine parts but recommend OEM parts where they are the same but better priced. Also, as well as himself he has 2 highly skilled mechanics who specialise in luxury and sports cars. I agree, don't just take your car to some franchised or backyard auto mechanic, only use mechanics outside the dealer if they come recommended. But, my statement to anyone who thinks the dealer service gives you any more than a bit of frippery thrown in (i.e. The wash, nice loaner car, nice waiting room) then you're dreaming. Everyone has a choice. I choose to support a reliable independant business with good old fashioned service.
  10. Looks like they go for over $1000 each new just for the rims. Interested to know what people are willing to pay.
  11. I'm looking to change my rims and like the look of the new 17" rims on the 2009 IS250. I spoke with a Lexus dealer and they only sell the accessory 18" rims. Any ideas on where can I get Lexus IS250 (2009) 17" Rims?
  12. I spoke with my reliable mechanic who has looked after my cars for a while. The 75k service is a minor lube and oil change. My guy is charging me $250, which would give me change of $410 compared to Lexus of Parramatta. My guy will also go over the car with a fine tooth comb to ensure nothing is missed. Now, I could hire a "nice" for the day car around the corner for about $150, and have my car detailed for $200 and still have $60 change. As it is, I'll spend $40 on cabs to get to the city and back (I wanted to skimp, my mechanic will drop me at the train station), and actually prefer to wash and detail my own car. Don't be fooled that a Lexus service is any better than a "reliable" mechanic. Keep the money in your own pocket I say.
  13. how bout 16's with brand new pirelli p7. is it really that hard a ride? Only really a hard ride on bad roads like Victoria Rd Sydney. Handling on them is superb
  14. My car is due for its 75k service. Parra quoted $660 for a what is a standard lube and oil change. I mentioned that I also wanted the transmission serviced as it has had a few oddities lately (hesitation on steep inlcline when going slowly - up driveway) and the goose stated "These transmissions don't need servicing". I'm sorry, I've had Beemers, Volvo's etc and I don't care what the service guy says - Get your transmission serviced.... Will check with Chatswood, but as it is a standard warranty (i.e. Not Dealer extended) I may just go with my own good mechanic in Artarmon. Had my wife's Honda in for it's 60k service at Scotts Honda and including new brake pads all around it came to $450. I'm thinking the Lexus dealers may be true "Stealers"......... Thoughts?
  15. Are these for 18 inch rims? I have 225/18/40 fronts and 245/18/40 rears
  16. I thoroughly recommend BMA AutoParts in California http://www.bmaparts.com/ Have used them for the past 10 years for my 5-series and 3-series bimmers. I have just priced up a set of rear rotors and brakes: 07 Lexus Brakes - Brake Rotors - LEX022893 - US$32.50 each - Brake Pads - LEX090795 - US$29.00 The only down side with heavy parts is the shipping cost as they only air freight. (You can organise your own freight if you would prefer surface). Shipping cost for 2 x rear rotors and rear pads: Priority Mail - 6 to 10 days - US$170.00 For rear discs they have OPParts. For front discs they have Genuine, OPParts, Meyle and Brembo. They also do ceramic and semi-metallic pads For lighter parts, they are incredibly cheap and fast. e.g. For an AC part for my 3 series even with exchange and shipping they came in under 1/2 the price of BMW. I ordered the part online on the Thursday and it arrived on the following Tuesday I am just ordering a replacement indicator stalk for my bimmer 3-series (RHD). Local Bimmer stealer price: AUD$290 BMA: US$130 + US$25 shipping (AUD$200)
  17. Hi all. Newly acquired 2008 IS250 has Dunlops all around and at low speed I;m finding the tyres (especially the front) quite noisy. Any recommendations on good inexpensive rubber from the forum before I outlay on a set of Pirelli's? SYDERIS250
  18. Hi all. I have just bought an '07 IS250 enhanced and would like to "Chip it up" for better KW and fuel economy. Have done this in the past for my 3 & 5 series Bimmers, so I am hoping the IS250 has something similar easily available.
