  1. well braking distance will decrease at higher speed

    there is less fade

brake pads with lower temps (oem) will only be efficient untill a certain heat range

performance oriented pads tend to have a higher threshhold.

so at high speed braking obviously causes more heat than low speed braking.

which in results will reduce braking distance at the same speed

yes...quite true. surely brake fade isn't going to happen with one brake application though is it? or even a couple? i've never driven mine hard enough to know....nor is it likely I will. I'd be quite disappointed, however, if that is the case.

I've had cars that are notoriously bad with brakes, but even so, I've never had brake fade unless I've been on the track, where you get repeated brake applications from high speed. Driving like that on the road is almost impossible.

  2. wow so negative mate.

the pads are suppose to work in different temp's

and also increases pedal feel and intial grab

what? how's that negative? just stating the facts. Nothing negative about it at all. Braking distance is really determined by the grip of the tyres, so bigger brakes isn't going to change that. If you can get to lock up with the brakes you have, then you're not going to stop in a shorter distance by changing brakes.

I wonder how changing the size of discs/pads etc is compensated for with the braking bias? By that I mean, the system is set up a certain way...a particular amount of pressure is sent to the front brakes v the rear. if you put bigger brakes on the front, but send the same amount of pressure, isn't the front braking much more than it's meant to? I'm just thinking out loud really. It makes sense in my little mind anyway!

Although I DO wonder with modern technology how much of the braking is by design and how much is just left to the computer and ABS to work out.

Anyway, like I said, I've just often wondered.

  3. better as in it brakes/stops better... better than my worn out standard set-up i had. I havent compared it to different set-ups so not sure.

depends on previous brake condition, tyres, tarmac... cant exactly provide brake distance improvements

well obviously the braking distance can't be better normally, but if your old ones were rooted, then yes, I can understand the improvement...but then renewing standard would have done the trick too.

  4. Well, I refilled with 98 today and drove exactly the same route as I drove with the E10. I can confirm that the fuel consumption between 98 and E10 is identical. I can't see how a drop off in performance can get the same fuel consumption, so logic tells me that the difference in performance between the two fuels is so close to nothing that it doesn't matter.........

    HOWEVER......

for the life of me, I swear the throttle response feels better with the 98.....but it just makes no sense.

Anyway, I fill up about once a month, so saving $3 a week isn't any big deal....but if I did more driving in the car, I'm pretty sure I'd be sticking to E10.

  5. Yeah I have a manual '250 and as much as I prefer manual cars, the IS250 MT is by far the worst I've driven...

It has a habit of being notchy and sometimes not slipping into gear (especially if rolling forward at 1-2km/h), almost as though the synchros are shot, and clutch engagement is also horrid. The throw is also a bit far for the positioning of the gearshift (which the F-Sport short shift kit I have sitting in my cupboard will solve).

I'm hoping some aftermarket synthetic fluid will help with the first issue, but I'm having issues finding some suitable fluid locally.

    try this place.

Aussie online business for performance oils.

something wrong with the website at the moment...i can't get onto it, but i'm sure that's just temporary

  6. my cousin filled his car with E10 the other day and he was saying the same thing as u ilv1004s

maybe its just us asians that can feel it??

    lol

and my cousin was driving his car on his farm, where he has a massive private straight driveway...

    yes...

but he did say normal driving its ok

but it could have been his subconscious, cuz i told him bout wat other ppl were saying bout E10

well....speaking only for myself, I'm only interested in how it performs with 'normal' driving. I'm a normal person, I have a normal car and I drive it normally lol

still, i'll try the next tank with 98 to satisfy myself, but so far, i've seen no detrimental effect/downside from E10.

  7. just do it lol.

every time i look at my mum's car, I feel more love into it. this color is really beautiful!

i don't see why still got no response these day since I posted it on carsales. I'm sure lots of ppl after this car, where are those ppl <_<

    I think it's a tad overpriced.

apart from the colour it's similar in year and mileage to mine. I bought it from a dealer with a full one year lexus warranty LAST year for $43k....and I'd expect to pay a lot less now that it's a 'year' older. it had just been serviced, new tyres and new front discs and pads. I certainly don't consider what I paid to be a 'steal' either.

mind you, there's one born every minute....so...good luck! the more you get the more mine's worth.

  8. Subconscious or not, the ECU in my last car could easily tell the difference between fuel types by showing the activity on both knock sensors in real-time. Optimax/V-Power being hugely inferior to Ultimate and 8000. I never ran any lower octane than 98 as the car wouldn't idle nor drive properly. This said, it was a 400kW turbocharged 3 litre so the tune was quite custom.

    lol...handy to know :)

  9. hm..i filled up mine with E10 today just to try it out

    so far so good

i got a serivce next week

    so ill try it again

    maybe just my feeling

    Power loss

Engine missing at idle (only in gear)

    consumption still the same

and no it's not my plugs they been done 10K kms ago

hmmm..that's weird. Power loss...none noticed, but then I don't drive it like a sports car so probably wouldn't notice.

engine miss at idle is a funny one though.

  10. I'm a bit wary of E10 - I know our cars are compatible but I'd still prefer PULP for peace of mind.

I think you can't judge it on just one tank of E10 - 2-3 continuous tanks to get a real feel I suppose.

From July next year I think it will replace regular ULP.

    peace of mind against what?

errr...1 tank is plenty. lol. you don't think it'll run differently on the next tank, do you? :)
