  1. A further update on the effects of using the new Huawei - the signal strength seems to be really good now - no more dropouts going through Park Orchards, Eltham, etc as used to happen in the past !!

Of course, if you don't hear from me every now and then, it's likely "the State Player" has whisked me off to Wuhan for unknown reasons or D Trump has for buying a Kung Phone. 🙂 🙂

  2. Hello Marauder.

I've recently upgraded my phone from the Huawei P8 to P30 - and BINGO - all hassles with the phone echo, etc etc have gone away :-).

Prior to this, a software update at service time did make some difference.

And using my son's iPhone to make or receive calls from my car worked perfectly every time - which really bugged me at the time !!!

Hope you get the issue sorted out to your satisfaction soon.

  3. Update after 3 months:

Had problems with the phone - dropping out, contacts list not loading okay, poor connections (couldn't hear the phone dialing), etc.

Took it to the dealer - and after quite a lot of trouble shooting, the problem turned out to be my music USB !!  It had a virus somewhere and once the USB was removed, everything worked perfectly 🙂 - thanks, Lexus Brighton, again!!!

  4. After much research, test driving and soul-searching, ended up sticking with Lexus and got the NX300 a few days back, after a 3-month wait.

And so far, no regrets!!  Haven't yet quite worked out the ins and outs of the Infotainment system, but the voice recognition system is very impressive for Satnav and phone functions.  The lady's pronunciation of the names may be a bit funny at times, but overall it's so easy to use.

And the cameras are pretty good - may not be as good as the Audi Q5, but that's a small price to pay for the unmatched Lexus reliability and service, which was the clinching reason to ignore all other luxury brands of mid-sized SUVs.

The one downside is with the Enform app, which is next to useless for Satnav functions.

Drive-wise, it's pretty good and met all my expectations - it will take a little while to change the IS250 driving habits at times, but it is peppy enough and not as thirsty as one would expect.

If there any hints and tips on useful short-cuts in using the Infotainment system, would love to hear from you.

And Lexus Brighton, thanks again for your amazing price and service!!!

  5. Thanks for this write-up, Lexus Nerd - found it very informative.

I'm looking at moving on from an IS250 SL to the NX300h (probably 2015 model) - my question is - would you still recommend this car after having 3 years' experience with it?

    Thanks

  6. Anth,

Firstly, about a Lexus failing just after the 4 year warranty - a car this expensive is NOT expected to fail after 4 years and typically your dealer will fix things without making a song and dance - Consumer Affairs will back you up if you take the matter further. Having said that, my experience has been that your relationship with the dealer is all important, whether or not the vehicle is in the warranty period.

Re: Interstate purchase - without contacts, a private sale vehicle would be difficult to check out - mine was through a dealer and I flew over after negotiating the basic price over the phone.

Please PM me and we can discuss how I might be able to help you if you have any cars that need checking out in Melbourne. I'm retired so have plenty of time!! :) :) .

  7. Having come in late on this thread, have had a chance to read the other replies and concur with the following:

Be patient - the right car will come along at your price - I waited 16 months for mine!

SL ads need checking carefully, whether private or dealer ads - steering wheel buttons are the best guide.

2010 SL is the last one with Active Cornering Headlights and heated-cooled seats.

In addition, these are my findings:

QLD prices are the lowest, followed by SA - NSW/VIC are the highest, if you're up for buying interstate. I bought my 2010 SL in 2013 with 13,700km on the clock for $41K from Southport!

Kms mean nothing - a well-driven and maintained car with 90K km on the clock is a far better buy than a poorly maintained and driven 60K km car.

Extended warranties are rubbish - don't bother with them.

    Good luck in your search.

  8. I updated my maps effortlessly to V20 from V17 on my 2010 IS250 after locating where the two picks were :)

As the ISO was too large to fit onto a SL DVD, I had to remove the file LOADING.KWI from the ISO, recompile it using PowerISO, and then burn it onto a DVD+R SL at slower speeds (x4). The DVD worked first time I popped it in.

I've tried what you suggested and followed all the steps, Gshyoung - but didn't use PowererISO - have used a freebie JihoSoft ISO Maker - the resulting ISO is only 2.08Gb - while the original ISO was 4.68Gb - seems a bit weird. Since I don't know how to compare the maps of one version against another, not sure what to do next!!:-(

RustyJarz and Wind Chaser, swapping information about pirated Maps is not permitted on this Forum, so can't help you, I'm afraid. Sorry.
