After reading some of the replies, I checked out the fuel usage display on my IS250 - it seems to be stuck at 8.7L/100km - doesn't change even when doing city driving. Does this need to be reset every now and then or is it some sort of rolling average?
-
Judging from the responses, I'm going to give it a go on the next trip - in Jan 2013 - shall keep you posted.
Thanks everyone

Recently drove from Melbourne to Sydney, got very impressive mileage out of the IS250 and looked like it might make it all the way in on one tank - but I was too chicken to let the fuel guage sit on empty for too long.
Would it have helped if I'd stuck to a slightly slower speed all the way? Or done anything else?

Thanks for picking up on some basic points, Melchels - it is a fixed price car and like you, I'm suspicious of a process that does not seem to be open and transparent. My guess is that the real price differential would be about $3-5K - and isn't worth the risk - so this one isn't for me!!
-
Don't think that "official" maps make any difference - I've uploaded V17 myself and don't get this problem - the only thing that comes to mind is to check if your satnav maps are for Toyotas/Lexus or for another vehicle.
Have you tried contacting your nearest Lexus service department? They're usually very knowledgeable and helpful.

Yes it does (upto April 2014, I believe), and the free NSW Rego check shows that it is registered until April 2013.

Thanks again for your feedback - will give it a miss !!
FYI, the car in question is this one:

Thanks for your replies and advice, Danny and Sapphire Cam - that was an excellent summary of what to watch out for.
If I understand it right, in this case the IS250 is a "fixed price" sale ie, it will not be auctioned, and it can't be test-driven. I didn't ask any further questions about things like being allowed to start up the engine etc. Will keep you posted of progress, if any.
Thanks again - much appreciated.

I'm interested in an IS250 being sold by an auction house (Pickles, Sydney) - and was told that one cannot take the car for a test drive. It is a fixed price vehicle - not going to be auctioned.
Since I've never bought a car without driving it first, wanted to know the views of more experienced Forum members in this regard.
Would love to hear from anyone who knows more about the process and its pros and cons.
Thanks

Thanks for the detailed reply - that was very timely, as I was considering this car to replace my current IS250 SL - now I think it's better to stick to a winning formula !!!

Any comments / hints and tips would be appreciated.
Having never had a convertible before, not sure about the folding top.
Thanks

Like Richard, I've been on the look out for a good IS250 2009 / 2010 SL, preferably Silver colour and have not had much success so far.
What I have learnt is that false advertising is rampant - be they private sellers or Lexus dealers. One dealer is advertising a car as 2009 MY 2010, when it is just an MY 2009, another has the advertised mileage on a "demonstrator" vehicle almost 2500 kms below the current odometer reading, one private owner claims the car is a 2009, MY 2010 when it is a 2008 model !!!
So definitely it is a case of buyer beware in this segment of the market, as far as I'm concerned.
Has anyone taken up the option of an extended Lexus warranty? Is it worth the $2K that it costs? Any fine print to be aware of?
Thanks

Steve2006 had suggested that one could use compressed air to clean through the vents - tried it and it worked beautifully !!!
Thanks again, Steve

PPLs,
I tried following up on this link to clean the sensor in my car in which the climate control has become a bit less effectively lately - has started sending cold air to the cabin when you expect warm air to be coming in.

Hope some of you more experienced forum members can show me how to get to the sensor under the steering wheel.
Thanks

Thanks, Simon - and please excuse the late reply.
If it's OK with you, I'll post this link on the IS250 forum and hopefully get some help from more experienced members in getting to the sensor.

I'm pretty sure that there is a "night display" option on some screen - if you select that, the GPS automatically goes into night mode whenever the headlights or sidelights come on (auto mode).

Simon,
I have an IS250 - 2007 - and the only thing that sort of matches your description of the location of the sensor is some vent slots on a large panel on the left side under the steering wheel.
There doesn't appear to be any easy way to remove the panel. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks
