In my case mentioned above, the previous owner had just rocked up, handed the car in and drove off with a new RX.... !!!

I too have only bought from Lexus dealers for precisely the same reasons, Melchels - your logic makes perfect sense !!

Drove it back, since I happened to be at the Gold Coast at the time.

A couple of points to note in my Interstate purchase:

The drive-away price was reduced by at least $2K, since the car had to be re-RWCd and registered in Victoria

Have never bought sight unseen and the price differential made it worth flying over to check out and drive back

Got road-worthy done by Lexus Brighton - costs more but any warranty item fixing got done at the same time

Car was perfectly road-worthy

I didn't think that a 2nd hand car had to be bought from a dealer to qualify for "Novated Lease"?

And by accident I found that prices in QLD are by far the most reasonable - got my 2010 IS250 SL for a landed price of < $45 with 13800Km on the clock last year (From Lexus of Southport).

Has anyone in Melbourne installed driving lights on a 2010 IS250? Does it interfere with the Active Cornering feature in any way?

Would love to get them installed but the DIY option is a bit out of my league!! Any suggestions?

I had a somewhat similar accident, but on the left side.

First point to check is if the steering wheel still sits dead centre when you are driving in a straight line. 2nd, the Lexus build quality is such that while there may not be much visible damage, it is best to get the whole front suspension properly checked out. In my case, after a number of stuff-ups by the repairers, I got the car checked by the dealer and the repairs were re-done subject to Lexus' satisfactory inspection.

Earlier advice is correct - go through your insurer and let them sort it out.

My experience has been that the prices are within a few dollars of each other between dealerships.

I've also found that the more critical thing is to have a good relationship with one dealer and stick with them - the advantages of having the same staff work on your car each time and fixing up minor things without charge far outweighed the savings of shopping around each time.

Interesting idea - and within reason, yes - would definitely buy Australian but it depends on whether Lexus build quality standards could be maintained.

An as ex- company car person, I used to be appalled by the number of defects in Ford and Holden vehicles in the fleet compared to Toyota and Mitsubishi (those days Mitsubishi were still being produced here).

I'm probably in the minority of Lexus owners who do not have it as a company car, so did a LOT of research before making the plunge.

The deciding factors were:

• The reviews I read in "The Dog & Lemon Guide"
• My mechanic who is ex-BMW and whose clients are ditching Mercs and Beamers for Lexus &
• My son's experience with a BMW 320

And it's been fantastic - concur 110% with what ISF-350 has said about Lexus dealer service !!!

Haven't got any mods done to the car, so not much to show off except a stock standard car :)

I've got windscreen cover with AAMI and have paid the $50 ONCE. When I paid it again the following year, it was refunded to me with a note - "Already paid for" !!! Haven't paid any more premiums towards this since, and my current policy says that I have windscreen coverage. Whether that covers genuine OEM replacement or not, only time will tell. However, have found it is worth paying a few dollars more for car insurance with a big name insurer because they will usually do the right thing if you are persistent and your claim is fair and reasonable... as they say, in the end you get what you pay for.

Aren't there a lot of in-built features in the Lexus OEM windscreen? Are they all available in replacement windscreens? How does one check if they are present or not?

Personally, would prefer the NSW car http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Lexus-IS250-2006/SSE-AD-2087611/?Cr=9&sdmvc=1 over the other silver car.....whose owner couldn't even be bothered washing the car wheels before posting the photos!!

Prices are very negotiatible right now - I sold my 2007 IS250 SL (Silver) with 111,700km on the clock for $24,250 - so you definitely have plenty of room to bargain.

Other bits and pieces like a more recent Whereis maps version can be scrounged around for free - PM me when you've bought something.

Spare keys and fobs are an expensive proposition, AFAIK - please check forum for similar threads - seen quite a bit on this in recent months.

My experience has been that focussing on buying a car just based on initial purchase price can often be the start of a nightmare journey that ends up costing you heaps more.

Have only inspected one Lexus with a beige interior and the grime marks around the seat belt part were clearly visible and off-putting.

A car that hasn't been serviced since 2010 - I wouldn't touch it personally - far too many things can go wrong in a car that hasn't been used and serviced regularly - IMHO, very low mileage on a car is worse than above average mileage.

Have managed to download and burn a DVD of Whereis V19. However, the maps don't seem to be any different from the V18 version (also a downloaded copy) - e.g. Eastlink's link to Peninsula Link in Melbourne is not there.

In addition, this time when the disk loads up, there is a message about "Contact the dealer for an update (or upgrade)" - have never got this message earlier.

Any suggestions on why this might be happening?

Best way to check a genuine Sports Luxury is to check out the photos which show the steering wheel clearly....if there is no single 5th button on the right side for radar cruise control (bottom button), don't bother - check out earlier threads and you'll find there is a wealth of stuff which will help you.

If you've never driven a Lexus before, by and large they ALL give you a fantastic driving experience - BUT beware the shonky SL claims.
