Rx350 The Good & The Bad

Recommended Posts

<_< Hey people,

I am a newbie. Well my family had just bought a RX350.

I just wanted to get some information from other owner of RX350 or RX330 of the design of the car itself.

I found there are couple of things I didn’t like and some I wanted to see if others have had the same problem as I have.

1.) The 'Fold side mirror' is quite unfriendly as you need to put key and turn before you could fold mirrors up. This is troublesome IMO as most case I left the car then to realise I needed to fold the mirrors, and I had to insert key and turn before I can do anything.

2.) I found even a RAV4 which has a lower ride height than RX has side steps.....then why LEXUS does not even have an option / accessory for the RX. Some of my friends or relatives who considered the car opted to go for others even though the RX is lower than most 4WD, but still a bit higher when compared to a normal sedan. Especially main competitors like X5 and ML both have side steps.

3.) The reverse tail light is too close to the license plate making it not able to give adequate light to either side of the car. What this means is when you reverse (especially parallel parking on side street) even with the mirror tilted, you can see anything at all at the rear or even to see the side curb. I have tried turning dim mirror off and turned the rear fog lamp on and it yielded nothing at all. Therefore is a design issue.

4.) Not sure others have this problem #1. The luggage compartment’s blind / cover make quite some noise when car is in motion. I can see that because the entire designed to be a bit loose as the cover is not rigid, and it will rattle a bit. I am looking for ways to further dampen any movement to it.

5.) Not sure others have this problem #2. I am bring my RX350 back to dealer to check a noise near the over-head handle on the rear roll seat behind the passenger side. The noise seems to come on semi-rough road where the road bitumen is not as smooth (I don’t mean dirt road, basically normal road with coarse bitumen). The sound is more like rubber rubbing against rubber. The sound is not loud but in a silent cabin (apart from the luggage compartment blind) it does get annoying. The noise also seems to come on only when the sun-roof shade / cover is close, so I assume the noise is coming form the cavity the sun-roof cover sits in when open. Or push to the rear. There are not more of those sound as soon as the cover is open or pushed to rear. And again I believe it could be noise coming from some sort of stopper that sits inside to stops the cover going too far into the cavity.

I would love to hear others comments or problem they may have.

Sorry for the long post.

Cheers :P

Hey, good questions. I have just bought 400H to add to our stable, my wife has a 350. I too am disappointed in the noise/rattle from the luggage compartment cover, rattles awfully, and I will remove it but would prefer to keep it there for security of luggage. I am also wondering how to disable the beep on unlocking/locking doors and tailgate. Again, I will ask the dealer per instruction book, but am worried the neighbors will key the car before I can do so!

The Beep when the tailgate opens / closes can be turned off by your Lexus Dealer.

The luggage cover will stop rattling if you lock it in place (so that it doesn't slide open automatically when the tailgate opens).

I have just come back from a trip to Tassie and my RX350 has at least 4 different rattles. The most annoying, which I have had from about 3 months after purchasing it is from the passenger door trim. It sounds like leather rubbing on leather. If I lean over and pull on the door handle whilst driving it stops, however not the safest way to drive!

Also got serious problems with the black paint work. My dealer has offered to give it a cut and polish however I am certain they are the ones that F#*KED it up in pre delivery, I am almost certain they had grit in the buff pad. The Lexus panel beater says that it looks like I have taken it through a car wash.... Who pays $80k for a car and does that? Idiots! Anyway they are certain that they can get rid of all the scratches and "spider webbing" with a really good cut and polish, however my dealer will not pay them to do it!

Other than that I haven't experienced any problems with the reversing lights being too bright, nor with the luggage cover. I must admit the car is without a doubt a bloody nice car to drive.
