Turboing Sc400

Recommended Posts

Everyone's big on supercharging the 1UZ-FE, I guess because that's been the tradition forced induction mod for v8s, but I think because its got such high revs for a v8 I think a turbo would be better suited to the application.

Normal pushrod v8s, such as the pre-BA Falcon and up-to-current Holden v8s only rev to about 5.5-6k and don't breath very well, and are better for their high torque, so an S/C is good for this. A Roots blower will give excellent low-end torque but don't like to rev, just like the engines.

But the toyota v8 has quad-OHCs and 4v/cyl head, meaning it revs well and produces a lot of high end power, so I think a turbo would be better suited and would produce better power gains than a Centrifugal blower.

What do people think? Has anyone turboed a 1UZ-FE before?

Yep... Pretty serious stuff tho.

My co-worker is using one in a KP60 RWD Starlet! (i kid you not...)

For one, if you running auto, its gonna get blown out the ass of the car...

A simple, well thought and conservative setup can yield approx 400+kw on un-opened engine.

'Lextreme' website is a wealth of knowledge, def worth a look.

If you are interested in doing it do some reading here. I think there are some links to other sites about TTV8 as well.

TTV8 in a TA22 Celica

TTV8 in a Cobra

TTV8 in a LS400

That what i have come across so far.

Oh and there is a guy in Australia that has developed a Supercharger esp for the Soarer's V8 engine and engine bay. Its at a good price too.

Mr Neil Griffiths is the man to talk to.

http://rushimports.com.au/

He usually lurks around the SoarerCentral.com forums. There are also plenty of supercharged Soarer munchkins on the forums there!

Its a good move. A mate of mine is in the process of supercharging his v8. Has his manifold, plenum and unichip with the rest on its way.

He might finally have a chance against my 210ish rwkw TT downt he 1/4mile ;D
