Anyone here are experiencing those problem?

IS250 Prestige May 2006

1. Wind whistle noise from around the windscreen or front windows when you rich to 100km/p?

2. The reaction of the car on high speed 110km/p onward are quite bumpy or friction even though from the nice surface freeway.

3. Speed intrustment aren't accurate.

4. Switching over from Air Conditioning to Fan only, the air smell are terribly to handle. Take long hours to get rid of of the smell by

leaving the fan on all time unless I have the air cond on instead.

It's very annoying, does this cover under warranty?

Cheers

Hi BennyG,

1. I haven't experience this myself, but I do remember reading about earlier model was some sort of windscreen attachment thingy which in the US they had to replace to overcome this.

2. 110km/h + ....you shouldn't be going faster than the Australian speed limit anyway :P. No issues that I've heard of. Are you wheels and tyres properly balanced?

3. Might be related to wheel + tyres arrangement (As above)

4. This is pretty much standard in all cars with A/C. Some are less noticable in others. If in doubt get an A/C specialist or Lexus to do an anti-bacterial clean of the system

Benny,

I have an Apr 06 Prestige.... here are some thoughts...

1. Wind whistle? Not sure - the rubber seal around the windscreen may be deterioating (this happens to all vehicles over time), but have not noticed this.

2. 110Km/h+ handling - Not sure either. Agree with Jomster - get your wheels aligned and balanced. My car runs beautifully at highway speeds. Even at 130 (yes wowsers, I may rarely hit that when overtaking) it runs as beautifully as it does at 60.

3. Speedometer inaccuracy - yes you are correct. The pre 07 speedos are out by about 7-8% (see a topic on this forum somehwere). I had my instrument cluster replaced under warranty - a 20 minute job. Will need your dealer to order one for you.

4. A/C smell - yes I had this smell also initially (Id bought a demo model). All you need is a new A/C filter, which is replaced every second service I believe. After my first service, the smell never returned. A musty smell can develop if the A/C is not used for a while &/or you're in humid conditions.

So in summary, Id go to your Lexus dealer with issues 3 + 4 and get them rectified. Also speak to them about 1 and 2.

Thank's Sapphire

I was planning to get it wheel alignment anyway since I got it.

Actually I'm tryiing to find out as much as possible of the manufacture defect or poblem as you go before my warranty end.

So it will keep me less headache in the future.

Would they charge labour cost on the warranty repair/replacement?

Please anyone here have ever come across with any problem, point out for me as a my guidance.

Appreciate to all the club members here who being quick responded

Items or work covered under warranty are free and this included labour. It probably doesn't hurt to check before hand though to avoid any nasty surprises when you pick up your car.

The other main problems you might look for if you want them fixed before your warranty runs out, are rattles from the dash, rearview mirror and side pillars as well as the engine knock on start up.

I started to experiece the rattle crack noise from the centre dash where is the sound come from around the air vent.

It's cold and rainy today at Melbourne, so I need to put on warm air and also defrost the windshield.

After defrost, switch back to warm air w/o A/C than for a little while drive I heard a crack noise quite loud. It crack once again when I off the engine at destination.

It's weird man, is not like typical rattle as vibrating noise.

The squeaky of the driver seat, feel like I'm driving a sh!tbox.

Definitely need to book in next week.

Im pretty sure the cracking sound you're referring to is just the expansion/contraction of the browny-grey plastic around the centre vent. Happens with all rigid plastics in varying temperatures. If you look at most cars, the plastic they use in this area is slightly tactile/flexible, but Lexus (for appearance and finish) have used a rigid plastic, which will give off a 'crack' occasionally in varying temperature. If its a random and not constant noise or is related to the driving surface, then I reckon that is what it will be. I live in Melbourne too and as you know our weather is always variable, so you'll get a fair bit of contraction/expansion of rigid surfaces. Simple physics. Nevertheless, take your car in to the dealer and drive around with a technician and point out the sound - but i reckon that is all the sound is, and therefore nothing will/can be done.

The squeaky seat is a quick fix. There is Technical Service Bulletin for this (Ive attached it for you). Your dealer will know what to do - its some left over plastic guiding eyelets/pins in the seat supports that is causing this. I got this fixed 18 months ago, not one squeak since.

Good post Sapphire. I was not aware this was a common problem. I was a little concerned when I heard the squeaky seat. It sounds like I am driving in a 1970's style recliner with the amount of squeaks. I will have to get this looked at when the 1st service comes up.

FrankyX - yeah it frustrated and disappointed me no end too - and apparently Lexus are embarressed about it, particularly as it nothing more than an oversight at the factory. These little lugs help assemblers correctly align the seat onto the tracking etc., however no one told them that once the seat is correctly installed, that these lugs should be cut off right away - well thats the story I got!

It wouldnt hurt to print this TSB off and have it "sitting in your back-pocket" when you go in, just in case your dealer doesn't know what the remedy is &/or is not sure what you are talking about.
