  1. Could anyone please upload a copy of the letter?

I just moved, my letter might have been sent to the old address.

Just want to know if my car would fall into that range of models which require fixing. I always found the brake is bit loud...

It doesn't say in the letter which vehicles are affected. It basically says your vehicle may be affected.

Best to ring your dealer and get them to check if your car falls within the date ranges in question.

  2. It's down to the individual taste but imo deep dish is not for the is250. this doesnt mean i do not think it look good, but only a very few does mind you.

To me the Is is about looking luxurious and classy, race and show car styles that are overly slammed does go well with the description.

Got a quote from TTyres, $2200 with Hankook 225/35/19s. But the site has it $1999?

My neighbor had the same idea at Tempe Tyres a few months back but were told they wouldn't fit an IS250 due the brake calipers or something

But they are a nice classy looking wheel.

  3. it feel lumpy but the surface of the lump is smooth, that's why i think its something underneath.

    whats TLC?

    thanks guys

It definitely looks like sap from a tree. It happened to me once when I had an IS200, to make matters worse it was a 40+ degree day which meant it went the sap went hard on the paint and the car was black also. Took me hours to get it cleaned up, I even resorted to pouring boiling water on it to soften it up. I never parked under that dammed tree again.

TLC, tender loving care, most people lavish it on loved ones (humans). I would dare say most of us here would lavish it on our cars...

    thanks man

I tried to clay it off with Maguairs. it didn't work :(

Could you tell me how exactly you got it off ? I have a number of these spots on the bonnet

    thanks

I tried pouring boiling water on it and it softened to a grease like substance which I was able to rub off slowly and then I waxed and polished the whole car afterwards. It did take me a long time to get it off though but to be honest I had it all over the car, roof, hood and trunk. You have to resist the temptation to try and scrape it off or rub it off.

    Good luck.

  4. Finally got my car looked at for the engine rattle on startup and misbehaving auto dipping mirrors.

They have now ordered all the engine bits needed to correct the startup rattle, and have also ordered a new set of side mirrors to replace the current ones. Car is almost 2 years old and so I will get the work done along with it's second service.

They picked up my car, gave me a loaner, and were going to drop my car back but I was going passed so collected it instead. I didn't have to plead or beg, they just assessed the items and make the judgement themselves.

WooHoo. Very happy with Lexus service. :P

New mirrors? My dealer says they found nothing wrong with mine, even though they re-adjust at all sorts of angles.

I should go to your dealer...

  6. If I can add my two cents worth in - a respray would drop the value of the car, particularly a recent prestige car and pose some questions for future buyers. Particuarly when the hard to reach spots (door jars, inside the bonnet etc.) will look a different colour (ie. silver) to the new pearl finish you're contemplating.

Id go along with others here, and spend a good $400-500 on a professional paint restoration job. THEN if you're still not happy, consider a respray.

But there are a few posts in this forum from other owners that have had been rapt at how their paintwork has come up after a good professional polish and detailing job.

A friend of mine just bought a 4 yr old Merc C-class coupe, and spent just $250 on a detailing package, as the paint work was a bit dull. Now looks a completely different car - he is rapt.

I agree, a full respray done properly, will mean stripping the whole car etc. For me it's not worth the cost, I would say you would be paying over $5K at the minimum but definitely closer to $10K for a professional job.

It would be much cheaper to get a professional detail, i.e. at a professional detailing place or smash repairer as opposed to your local car wash and see if your paint improves.

  7. Hello,

I have a set of front RDA slotted rotors for sale. They are a straight replacement part which means you don't have to alter your car in anyway.

I purchased them and had them on the car for about 6 weeks or 1500kms. I'm selling the car so took them off and went back to OEM rotors.

For those that complain about the brake dust and noise, then these work a treat. They pull up the car a lot better and the slots mean they constantly deglaze the pads to avoid the customary squealing our brakes are renowned for. I have the OEM pads which go with these rotors as well.

Sale price $250 for the rotors and you can have the pads if you want. Each rotor is around $200 and the pads are $90 or so from Lexus.

  8. Rap03 - Good luck with VW. I won't go near them!

Their notorious arrogance and condesending approach to its customers, not to mention their questionable reliability record and Mercedes-esque service costs have turned me off them completely. I bought a Golf for my wife a few years ago. I was turned off early on (even though I initially liked the vehicle), but she really wanted the Golf - so we went through a painful experience for a troublesome vehicle. Needless to say its sold now. Whilst we did, I looked at the Passat and took one for a drive. Not a patch on the IS with respect to build quality, finish, quality of materials, ride/suspension and handling. That's not to say it wasn't a bad vehicle - they are good value for money, are spacious and have an excellent transmission and a very good diesel donk, but they lack that all-round polish. Just a pity its a VW. When buying the IS, I seriously considered the A4 too, and found Audi's level of service very good - not pushy but polite, responsive and they gave me one for the day to drive on my own without a sales rep with me. I'd recommend Audi service, but not its parent company.

I'm staggered to hear you're dissappointed in Lexus service standards. I've found Lexus' service second to none - clear daylight with anything Ive dealt with and having dealt with many manufacturers over the years from Holden and Ford, through to VW, Mazda and Merc. You'll see standard industry 'service' when you go to VW!!

As I said, good luck with VW - and watch out for that options list too - its big and scary and likes to feed aggressively on your bank balance!!!

I agree, VW, Audi, BMW etc, have nice cars don't get me wrong by the time you add in all the options you get in Lexus, you're near $100K.

Before I got my IS250 I looked at the BMW 325 and by the time we added all the options we were getting with the Lexus we were over $100K.

Lexus service is always good, they are always eager to fix any issue however small etc.

  9. Yeah, I noticed the other thread regarding the side mirrors after I posted. I'v put my two bobs' worth in.

Has anyone else specifically, then, experienced issues using an iPhone with the IS250 handsfree? I have a sneaking suspicion that it's been a signal coverage issue (Optus + calling from the same location on my way home from work each day) but wanted to see if anyone else had the same problems that might've indicated a problem with the mic.

It's probably the iPhone. I got one when they first came out and the reception was really bad, it would also drop the bluetooth connection to the car for some reason. Eventually I went back to my trusty Blackberry and flogged the iPhone on eBay.

I've never had a problem with Blackberries and the IS250 handsfree and I've had had a Blackberry since I got my car.

  10. Does anyone have a late 2008 or 2009 model Sports Luxury?

I am looking to get a new car in the next few months and I would like to stay with Lexus but I want to know apart from the styling changes outside the car has anything else really changed?

I read somewhere that now you can change from full auto to semi auto by flicking the paddles on the wheel, similar to the DSG gearbox offered by VW, does anyone know if this is true?

Also, are there any rattles etc that are common amongst 2006 models? I know I have had my fair share of rattles and I am thankful at having an understanding dealer service manager who managed to get them fixed but I don't really want to go through that again.

    Cheers.

  11. Anyone else having issues where they set their wing mirrors, then after several days of driving and reversing they aren't aligned at their original position!!

It seems to be a recent issue, but wanting to find out how common it is.

I'm having the same problem. Always having to readjust them as they tend to end up pointing higher than I set them.

Same here. Has anyone let Lexus know, and what was the result?

I'll let them know at my next service, but that isn't for a few months.

My car is going in for a new instrument cluster in the next few weeks, I am going to mention it to them and I will let youy know what they say.

  12. Noone ever spots me :(

    lol

    do you have chrome rims?

I have seen a girl driving a blue IS200 with chrome rims on Parramatta Rd a few times on my way home.

Haha shadow chrome rims...Yes :) Does she have personalised plates?

Don't get a chance to see, she's always flying past the other way.

Haha  Do you see her mainly on weekends or late evenings?

I go Parramatta way during the weekend when i do some shopping or evenings when I go to the gym :)

    Usually in the evenings.

Hmmm I dunno if its me. Next time beep or try and get the plates :)

Yeah I will have a look if she slows down...
