  1. Thank you Manny. Now there's a good word. Garnish: to provide or supply with something ornamental; adorn, decorate I looked at the construction of the boot lid and it looks like the garnish is the base of the license plate recess. Thanks for the information - I'm going to leave it well alone.
  2. Thanks Zed for the response. I purchased a "kit" of LED globes and set about installing them in my IS250. The reversing lights were an easy (well, moderately easy) replacement - and I looked at the license plate globes as my next target! I was puzzled even how the dealer is supposed to service them - it looks like a panel beatng job to me. Ah well, I'll be leaving them alone then.
  3. The manual says to "see the dealer" to replace these globes (rear license plate globes). Is it that hard to do it yourself? Anyone seen a HowTo in a forum or in UTube?
  4. I don't think I would be happy with that situation. Give me a call on my mobile which I will PM you - if you wish to talk it through. Michael
  5. Can't help you there regarding costs. They (Chatswood) didn't charge me. I imagine there is a servce notice about it and an accepted repair procedure and liability for costs. I found it annoying but am not qualified to say if it is damaging to the engine. I also think your selling dealer would be "happy" to fix it for you. If you are still within your three month warranty period, I would write a note to the dealer telling him about the rattle (and this thread) so he is warned before you go out of warranty. Others on this board will no doubt know more about the Lexus dealer obligations and maybe respond with better advice than mine.
  6. Mine was also intermittent and I could not "turn it on" or tell them when it would happen. I took it to Chatswood Lexus and there was no argument - they ordered the kit and booked the car in for rectification. In other words, don't be concerned a good dealer will know about the issue and get it fixed for you. I just noted you have a 2007 model so there MAY be a warranty issue. Best discuss with the dealer.

  8. This would certainly be a nice (and desirable) modification. I would be very interested to see it done. I do howver, think it will be an almost imposible task. To date, bearing upon our experiences with the auto folding mirror kits, we know there are three styles of wirings to the mirrors in the IS250 range that would firstly have to be understood. Additionally, the turning indicator signals are not presently in the doors so the wires would need to be sourced and supplied into the doors. I think also, the mirrors you speak about have the capability to dip down for gutter monitoring when reversing. These are more signal wires to be sourced and provided. Michael
  9. This is certainly an easy "do it yourself" project. My added tips: Make sure you degrease the disks before you install them (mine had rust preventing coatings). Also, buy a tube of copper grease for sliding parts lubrication.
  10. My 2008 IS250 locks the doors once I get going and un lock all doors when I shift to park! Sydney Toyota did it for me when I called in unanounced - I had a coffee and after 15-20 minute it was done! It is a MOST welcome change. As to the auto paddles - the engineer who makes the Po-40 auto mirror lock kit told me he would look at this as a project. (Don't hold your breath waiting) - I reckon it is a software thing and won''t be fixable with a hardware module. But, I am pushing him even if its for me only!
  11. I reported the same problem to Chatswood Toyota in October 2010 with my 2008 IS250 (40km). They fixed it and I note the comment from the service sheet as follows: "Rattle from engine found to be coming from Cam Gears. Parts on order reg #9794. Rebooked 27 October for repairs" I hope that assists to identify the issue and fix for you. Regards, Michael
  12. Here's the "word" regarding the issue with the Auto Windows action (with some minor grammar fixes): if you remove your battery for a long time, your windows will be reset and not work in automatic up/down mode. You can notice that on the door where the automatic up/down function was reset... --> the green led in the windows switch will blink. (you have to look the green led status in the window switch for each door) So ,when the customer (James_L) removed the connector of the windows master switch for a long time during the installation --> no power was sent to the windows master switch , it's the same as if you removed the battery for a long time (some cars reset in 1 one minute , some cars 5 minutes, some cars 15 minutes, etc) This is the procedure to set the windows back to automatic Up/Down function. 1. Turn the ignition switch to ON position 2. Go to the door where the LED in window switch is blinking 3. Hold the window switch DOWN and wait until the window move completely down and continue to hold the switch in DOWN position for 6 seconds. 4. Release the window switch 5. Hold the window switch Up and wait until the window moves completely up and continue to hold the switch in the Up position 6 seconds. 6. Release the window switch Now you should see the LED in the window switch does not blink --> this window has been set back to automatic Up/Down function.
  13. Thanks James_N - I remember the transaction even that long ago. The removal of the door trim IS an issue because the fit is really tight. A short while ago, one of the European enthusiasts sent me a map of the clips used to fit the door liner in place. Now, knowing where the clips are makes it easier to get the liner off. Additionaly, I devised a hand tool which also works. I'll attach the files for the interest of readers. Regarding the window action, I've not seen that before and am pleased it has settled to normal. I wil ask the technical guys about the phenomenon. Cheers, Michael DoorTool(Scrap_Plastic).pdf Lexus_DoorClips.pdf
  14. Suction cups - now THAT'S a good solution. Give the man a prize. I'm wondering if anyone tried it yet? You might have to still use the mini drivers to compress the little grips and then use the suction cups to pull the cover free. My cover is really firmly stuck in place so next time I will use the suction cup method. I've bent my mini drivers already getting the cover out before.
  15. It's almost behaving like you have the SatNav hack installed although lack of sound is not part of that modification. Did you test a new NavDVD in case the DVD is faulty/damaged? I suppose with a 2007 model that warranty cover is out of the question. I see you're in Melbourne so if it were me, I would take the car to one of the better (reputation on this board) Lexus dealers (for Sydney - Lexus Chatswood) and ask them to identify and quote the fix. You "might" need to give them a budget for their investigative work. Then, depending upon their report, you should know your options. You might be in line for a trip to several wreckers and buy the part there. (I've had good results at GMS Spares 02 9774 5184) Let us know how it goes.
  16. Hi guys... I found this "treasure" noodling around the US version of this Lexus site. USA Lexus NAV Repair
  17. The manufacturer in Bangkok says there are a few Klugers in Thailand (imported from Japan). He has never done an install into a Kluger but he doesn't think it is different from other Toyota vehicles when it comes to the mirrror kit. If Lexus Nurd (or whoever is interested) can advise us the style of connector under the mirror switches (9 or 16 pins) the manuafacturer in Bangkok is sure he can devise an Installation Manual for the car. Pictures of the conector(s) could also be of interest. BTW, for those of you who are interested, he now has Installation kits for some Honda models (Jazz , Fit , Civic ES , Civic FD , CR-V G3) and some Susuki models(Swift , SX4). As I said before, the control module itself remains the same for all cars - it's just the connection wiring harness that changes!
  18. The actual cntrol module fits many cars (eg Honda)- the only change is the accompanying wiring harness. The important issue is if the vehcle is known to them in Bangkok as a Kluger (or if that name is an Aussie invention). I'll check with Bangkok if they have devised a wiring harness.
  19. It would be useful if Moboby could comment about why his mods did not work for him. It would seem that his misadventure is an exception rather than the rule. I made the change to my car within weeks of getting it because the stock situation is unhelpful. If I have a passenger in the car, why should the passenger not have access to the maps? Hacking the NAV made sense to me - the instructions were easy to follow and worked without drama!
  20. UPDATE FOR 2009/2010 IS250/350 Mirror kits. I want to thank the several members who have discovered that the vehicle wiring loom for their mirrors has been changed for the 2009/2010 models. These new versions can be easily determined because the mirror switches are illuminated when the dash lights are on. Also CONNECTORs A and B are different to older models. We were taken by surprise and did not have an instruction manual for the new wiring harness. I was fortunate that GMS Spares (02 9774 5184) were wrecking a late model IS250/350 car and I purchased the switch assembly for study. The technician in Bangkok now has the switch and he will be supplying an installation manual for those patiently waiting for it. He did say "a few days!" To those enthusiasts with the affected models - thanks for being so patient - I will rush the new installation manual to you ASAP.
  21. The question? Yes, you CAN shop around and get different prices for Lexus services by Lexus dealers. AND, you are encouraged to do so. I think the consensus on the board is that Chatswood are the best and cheapest of the (Sydney) dealers.
  22. I've been really happy with the services and charges at Chatswood. They drop off a car and bring mine back after service is done. If I were "picky" I would say that Chatswood DO have a tendency to up-sell. In other words "A/C could use a service on the air filter" and "We now have a special to refurbish your gutter damaged wheels!", etc
