  1. *** WARNING *** When you push back the pistons, watch that the hydaulic oil does not come out of the master cylinder (under the bonnet (hood) - it has got to go somewhere! So, I suggest a new "Step 0": Remove some fluid from the master cylinder. (then jack the car up, etc) The fluid is VERY corrosive and can eat the paint and metal if it spills. Otherwise, the job you are contemplating is straight forward and well in the reach of the average car enthusiast. I note that ilv1004s has offered Sydney assistance - that's a very useful offer in case you need help by phone.
  2. Try call Wazza at GMS Spares at Sydney 02 9774 5184 They seem to have a few late model Lexus that they are parting out!
  3. I suppose the absolute answer is YES. However the dealer would be on shakey ground if the device has nothing to do with the warranty fault. Some members seem close to dealers and they would give a better answer than me.
  4. Forgive me <blush> if I ignore the previous message! TOYOTA CAMRY: The Po-40 kit also works with the Canry (2007 - 2011) but I haven't tested it. (BTW, it also works on many Japanes cars eg: Holden Cruise). I figure some Lexus owner might also have a Camry within their family. I'm happy to donate a kit to a Camry owner on the following (broad) conditions: You are located within the greater Sydney suburban area and are prepared to meet at Rose Bay. You are able to do the installation sooner rather than later. You follow the Installation Instructions OR (preferred) come over to Rose Bay (near Bondi) at a convenient time for us to do the install for you. We wish to verify the newly translated (English) Installation Guide. We want to verify the colours of connectors, wires, etc (which did change with the Lexus kit). And finally, we wish to know it works! Please PM me with details of your Camry and list your contact phone number so we can discuss the logistics.
  5. Hi all, I now have a fresh shipment from Bangkok and am ready to ship kits out. This new production has a much simpler installation process which now does not involve cutting any wires. You do have to splice some wires (subtle distinction). I think that you will find this to be a much quicker installation process. The new production has also eliminated the connector for an external speaker which was never used for installations in the Lexus. (Explanation: The same kit can be used for other Japanese production cars and the speaker connection was added for vans where they don't have provision for sound.) The best way to proceed is to follow these instructions: Send me a personal mail detailing your mailing address and your e-mail address. I will send you an invoice Upon receipt of your payment I will send you the kit(s) by Australia Post overnight bag. For those of you who have already installed your kits and are offering to help others, be aware that there is a slightly different installation process and if you wish to have the new installation manual please see the attachment. EDITED TO ATTACH Rev:05 of installation instructions (explains use of the T-quick harness now being supplied) Best regards, Michael ENG_Po-40_RCM_Lexus_is250_05.pdf
  6. Maybe I'm just asking the obvious here but did you return the conversion back to standard? And, does the disply work when back to standard? Maybe there is a reset function for the screen (did you remove the car battery for a few hours - that might reset the display cpu)?? FYI, I did mine according to the hints on this board and had no issues so I don't think the mod process is in question.
  7. Sure would be good to have a list of WHAT can be avalable within the Servce computer.
  8. Chatswood Lexus lent me a IS350 yesterday while they did the 60,000 service on my car. Certainly a candidate for the folding mirror kit! (I was under the impression that the IS250 has it as standarda!!) Other observations of the IS350: Firmer (read rougher) on the road Noisier Much MORE power in the Go peddle Just LOVE the fact thaat the Paddles are alway on The shiny console finish seems nicer than the (fake) wood grain effort of the IS250 I didn't like the chrome trimettes in the centre console The display on the console is very much better than the IS250 Love the (Navigation) warning message goes away all by itself - retro fit PLEASE! Didn't like the fact that the loan car did not have eTags fitted
  9. Thank you LEX51S... My problem is that I don't have many units left and with Bangkok under flood, my manufacturer has moved to higher ground and it could be several weeks till I get further supplies. However, you don't say what time the Dyno Day starts. If you can let me know a suitable time, I wil come over to show my installation. If I don't hear from you I will try to get there 9:00am with at least one kit to show. Happy however to take advance orders though <grin> I'm looking forward to the meeting, Regards, Michael
  10. For those of you who have now got their kits installed and running I'll try to explain the poor English discussion in the "Special Functions" section of the Installation document. It involves the use of the Lock and Unlock buttons on your remote key where the "trick" is to press the two keys (Lock and Unlock) within one second. Here's what happens with the Special Features. A) With the car doors closed press Unlock then Lock (within ONE second). The car will lock but the mirrors will remain extended. B) Now consider that you've locked the car normally and the mirrors have retracted. Press the Lock then Unlock keys within ONE second - the car will be unlocked but the mirrors will remain retracted. (Useful if you're in a tight spot). When you start the car, the mirrors will automatically fold out. I hope that explains it better than the text in the Installation sheet. As always, call me on my mobile phone or PM me if you want further information. Regards, Michael PS: OzBay - thanks for the post. Good to see it was straight forward to install and worked first shot. One nice side benefit for me has been that I walk away from the car and wonder "Did I lock the car?" If I can see the mirrors have retraced, I know it's been locked!
  11. I now have an additional shipment in stock so please place your orders either to my email address or via PM. (Don't forget to include your own email address, delivery address and the name for the invoice. Don't send money but wait till I send you a tax invoice. Once the invoice is paid I'll release the kit to you. Some of you were wanting to see a photo of the kit (which I now have) As you can see there is the control box which has the electronics embedded in epoxy. The colour coded wire harness is connected to the car before being connected to the control box. Note the supplied heat sink tubes for wires that end up being cut and the (black) fuse in the wiring harness. The second smaller connector on the control box is for the connection of a horn or buzzer. (This feature is used for cars that don't soound a noise when locking/unlocking. It isn't used in the Lexus but I'm explaining the socket for those who are curious). The yellow wire loop controls the speaker volume (to be deleted from future kits) if an external horn is fitted. The black loop wire (shown with heat shrink plastic) selects an alternate mode of Lock/Unlock operation. Without wishing to rush any of you, please place your orders ASAP since the kit has proved to be popular and I expect to sell out before the next order arrives. Michael
  12. Hi guys, Sorry to say I've been surprised with the responses and have now sold all stock. A new order is on the waay but past experiences tell me it might take two weeks to get here. If you're going to order, do so as soon as possible but don't send me any money until I ask for it and have stocks to cover your order. (Oh... an Edit to clear up confusion...) Please note that the Kit is NOT suitable for your car if you cannot already electrically fold the mirrors. I understand some very early IS250s did not have electrial mirrors. Michael
  13. Ok OzBoy I've responded to your email with a copy of the installation manual. When I can get sufficient stock, I'll approach some of the Dealers in case they want to either offer the product themselves or just be aware of the aailability in case owners like you want the modification. Rarely does a few days go by without someone commenting on seeing the mirrors moving when I get in or out of the car.
  14. You are correct that it is a "Splce and Solder" instalation. I imagine that there would be many "unique to Toyota" electrical connectors throughout the car and a "Plug to Plug" solution may not have been feasible, cheap or easy to do. Certainly there's nothing wrong with "solder and Spice" if the joints are securely insulated. The instrucion sheet recommends this and even supplies small lengths of heat shrink tube for some of the joints. As you correctly say - each to their own!
  15. Hi guys... I am the vendor of the product and I currently have a few left with another order for more on its way from the manufacturer. The kit is really done well and the result protects the mirrors from passing traffic and turns heads when I lock/unlock the car. I don't have a photo of a unit - but that's a good idea and the next time I break the seal on a package, I will photograph it. It is however VERY well made. It is two components: A: an epoxy sealed plastic box about 40mm x 40mm x 25mm and B: a hank of wires with a connector to the sealed box. These wires go to 9 points in your door harness. I can't see how I can attach the file for the instruction sheet so call me on 0418 229 934 or email to MichaelR@Ashpoint.com.au and I'll send the sheets and/or discuss anything over the phone. As to installation, removing the door trim is easy (two or three screws if my memory is correct) and an auto-electrician will have little trouble doing the job. Anyone capable of soldering will have no problems either. My own installation took about 45 minutes but I went slowly verifying the work. It really was straight forward, easy and worked first shot! I've had it running for several months now - not missed a beat! The obstruction sheet has many high quality photos and the step-by-step sequence is easy to follow. To "DUY", give me a call to discuss. Michael
  16. I am selling the product and expect the buyers to arrange or do their own installation. As to a review how it works... Best to study the YouTube link. At rest, with the car locked, the two external mirrors are retracted and out of the way. If I open either front door, by key button or by opening the door handle, the two mirrors fold out to the working settings. When I lock the car, by key button or by door button, the mirrors retract. There is an option that I chose to omit during my installation that would allow me to enter the car with the mirrors folded and for the unfolding to happen when I press the KeySwitch to Acc or ON. Given some advance notice and geographic closeness (near Bondi, NSW), I would be pleased to assist in an installation. One thing I need to stress is that this electronic modification is designed for the IS250 that has a manual powered mirror retraction button.
  17. I am now able to sell the mirror auto folding conversion kit for IS250 models that have the manual electric folding capability. The kit is NOT suitable for your car if you cannot manually and electrically fold the mirrors. You can see the kit in action at this link Price each is $81 inclusive of GST post paid to Australian addresses from Sydney. The price now includes a more convenient cable set that now only means three wires to be spliced into the car's system (no more wires to be cut). The kit, which comes from Thailand is expertly made with all electronics embedded in epoxy with generous length cables for connection to your car. Installation involves removing the driver door internal trim, cutting two wires and making 9 connections. I installed mine in about 45 minutes taking my time to double check the method, correct the language in the instructions, take photos and measurements. Send me a PM if you want additional details.
  18. I founnd the following link which interests me. UTube folding mirror Unfortunately email messages are unanswered and phone calls answered with a (Thai?) recorded message. Surely there's a local importer or maybe one in the USA. Anyone had any experiences with the product?
  19. There's a total of four screws that need to be removed so the two halves of the mirror housing will come apart. In the illustrations in this thread, you can see that they are removing or loosening the two left hand screws. The other two screws are on the right side of the housing. You have to remove the mirror itself to get to all four screw. Be aware that removing to mirror is "spooky" since the force needed to remove the mirror borders on mirror breaking force. I have removed four mirrors myself (to install the LED globes) and not broken a mirror yet!
  20. Thanks for all comments. From other contributors, I get the impression that the matter is a minor issue and not a problem! I actually find it irritating when it happens. When I last mentioned the issue to the service dealer he said "next time you pass by, we'll run a de-carbon service - that should fix it." BTW, I paid extra to have this done at the last 40,000 km service a few weeks ago! Yesterday I called by and was told the de-carbon service takes over an hour (time I didn't have). They then took the car "downstairs" and gave the engine a good revving! According to the service guy, lots of carbon came out the pipe. I don't get the shiver all that often so I'll be interested to see if the revving out has worked and if the shiver re-appears. In the meantime, others might like to try giving their engine a solid revving and see if that works for them.
  21. My IS250 does an occassional shiver when stopped at traffic lights. It's almost as if the car is about to stall - but it doesn't. The car simply "shivers" for about 2 seconds. I haven't worked out how to replicate the issue on demand and I can go for weeks without it happening. Apart from that, the car is excellent and smooth. (BTW, 40,000k on the clock) At the last service a few weeks ago I mentioned the issue and another issue of (also occassionally) clattering on startup. Chatswood Lexus said the issues were related and they replaced (I think) the cam gears (under warranty) and did an engine decarbon service (which they charged for). The shivering still occurs. It isn't a show stopping event and I'm happy to live with it hoping it will become more pronounced and reproducable. The warranty has several years to run so I'm not concerned about the repair in due course. I am interested to know if others have seen the same issue with their IS250?
  22. I suspect a bad burn. Suggestions: Try a fresh burnt DVD. Also try a DVD+R style Also try burning at a slower speed Also try burning with a verify If these fail, download the source again and try the above burn suggestions. Since others don't seem to have similar issues - it points to a problem at your end.
  23. I suppose that's possible but I think it's unlikely. Its just the software change that would be a cheap (and attractive to Toyota) update in models from time to time. The sensors in the switch gear would (seem to me) to be more than adequate for this purely software modification. The makers of speed chips are probably the people that would know where to look for the code within the firmware. I also noted the stupid NAV warning screen now self destructs by itself - don't have to press "I accept." Another victory over the "do gooders"
  24. I note the 2009 models now go into sports mode without the need to move the gear shift into the Sports position. In other words, with the gear lever in Drive, downshift with the left paddle and you are in Sports mode. Moving the right paddle higher than 6th gear, cancels Sports mode. A truely welcome and sensible change from earlier models. Does ANYONE know how to change the firmware chip(s) to accommodate this change? On a similar topic, does anyone know of firms that undertake firmware changes or have knowledge of the firmware for the IS250 style Lexus?
