  1. yes...quite true. surely brake fade isn't going to happen with one brake application though is it? or even a couple? i've never driven mine hard enough to know....nor is it likely I will. I'd be quite disappointed, however, if that is the case. I've had cars that are notoriously bad with brakes, but even so, I've never had brake fade unless I've been on the track, where you get repeated brake applications from high speed. Driving like that on the road is almost impossible.
  2. what? how's that negative? just stating the facts. Nothing negative about it at all. Braking distance is really determined by the grip of the tyres, so bigger brakes isn't going to change that. If you can get to lock up with the brakes you have, then you're not going to stop in a shorter distance by changing brakes. I wonder how changing the size of discs/pads etc is compensated for with the braking bias? By that I mean, the system is set up a certain way...a particular amount of pressure is sent to the front brakes v the rear. if you put bigger brakes on the front, but send the same amount of pressure, isn't the front braking much more than it's meant to? I'm just thinking out loud really. It makes sense in my little mind anyway! Although I DO wonder with modern technology how much of the braking is by design and how much is just left to the computer and ABS to work out. Anyway, like I said, I've just often wondered.
  3. well obviously the braking distance can't be better normally, but if your old ones were rooted, then yes, I can understand the improvement...but then renewing standard would have done the trick too.
  4. Well, I refilled with 98 today and drove exactly the same route as I drove with the E10. I can confirm that the fuel consumption between 98 and E10 is identical. I can't see how a drop off in performance can get the same fuel consumption, so logic tells me that the difference in performance between the two fuels is so close to nothing that it doesn't matter......... HOWEVER...... for the life of me, I swear the throttle response feels better with the 98.....but it just makes no sense. Anyway, I fill up about once a month, so saving $3 a week isn't any big deal....but if I did more driving in the car, I'm pretty sure I'd be sticking to E10.
  5. try this place. http://www.performancelub.com/ Aussie online business for performance oils. something wrong with the website at the moment...i can't get onto it, but i'm sure that's just temporary
  6. I don't use my car much, but I was out driving around with it today STILL on that tank of E10. It feels spot on to me...not a miss nor a hesitation...I really can't fault it.
  7. well....speaking only for myself, I'm only interested in how it performs with 'normal' driving. I'm a normal person, I have a normal car and I drive it normally lol still, i'll try the next tank with 98 to satisfy myself, but so far, i've seen no detrimental effect/downside from E10.
  8. I think it's a tad overpriced. apart from the colour it's similar in year and mileage to mine. I bought it from a dealer with a full one year lexus warranty LAST year for $43k....and I'd expect to pay a lot less now that it's a 'year' older. it had just been serviced, new tyres and new front discs and pads. I certainly don't consider what I paid to be a 'steal' either. mind you, there's one born every minute....so...good luck! the more you get the more mine's worth.
  9. you gotta be kidding? a 'noticeable' power loss at redline? seriously, that's an issue? (even if it DID exist) I'll make sure I put 98 in next time I take it to the track. *sigh*
  10. thanks. i'll try 95 or 98 again and see what I notice too....if anything.
  11. that you're a good guy and we have some things in common (not the good guy bit though)
  12. really? hmmm....why didn't i notice that? maybe because I was just cruising on the freeway? I haven't driven it since. what about fuel consumption? that would HAVE to have suffered too if it's down on power.
  13. not out of the factory it didn't! :) I was talking to Rob Hayden about you today.
  14. you ask very odd questions. I'm glad there was no internet when i was 17!! I hate to think what I'd have asked.
  15. hmmm..that's weird. Power loss...none noticed, but then I don't drive it like a sports car so probably wouldn't notice. engine miss at idle is a funny one though.
  16. peace of mind against what? errr...1 tank is plenty. lol. you don't think it'll run differently on the next tank, do you? :)
  17. I know we've all heard bad things about E10, but I don't see why Lexus would agree to its use if there was a problem. They have to honour a 4 year warranty!!
  18. Today I drove a Lexus IS250 Sports Luxury to Geelong and back. i got a real world 5.7l/100km (49mpg) which surprised me a great deal. this was on E10....same consumption as 98 octane.
