Hi all,

I have an IS250 SL 2006. I have just removed the cabin filter to take a look and it is filthy...Can anyone recomend where the best place (online or in Melbourne) to buy a replacement is?

thanks

By "cabin filter" do you mean the aircon filter that is accessed through the glove box?

If so, can't it be cleaned? (Instructions are in the manual)

Or is it way past the cleaning stage?!!

Have you tried eBay?

Hi, yes it is the filter in the glove box. I tried giving it a vacuum but it is black and probably beyond cleaning :( The only place on ebay was someone in the US who wanted $45 for postage!.

I'm getting my 60K service done tomorrow at Lexus Brighton - shall ask around and get back to you.

Melchel,

Can understand why you asked the forum about this!

Lexus spare costs $77, fitted costs approx $125-140.

Hope you've had some luck elsewhere!!

Thanks Subby,

I hadn't asked my local Lexus dealer as I guessed it would be expensive..but not that much! $48 - $63 for fitting, unbelievable, I removed and reinserted my old filter in 30 seconds!

I have just found this place and emailed them, I will let you know what they charge for the part, if they sell individually and to private buyers.

Thanks for asking Lexus though, appreciate you taking the time out!

No problem, Melchel - and thanks for the link - that looks like a handy one to know for the future!

The Air filter part no. specified by Lexus is slightly different:

Check out this link:

http://www.lambros.net/LexusTechInfo...SB-0031-08.pdf

The part no. appears to be 87139-07010

On eBay got this link:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/5-PC-LEXUS-IS250-CABIN-FILTER-2006-2007-2008-2009-2010-/120514805188?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1c0f3dfdc4#shId

If there are a couple more people in Melbourne who want this filter, I'm happy to order a set of 5 and we can share the cost - I'll keep 2.

PM me if you're interested

There are actually a number of different Lexus OEM filter part numbers covering both superseded numbers as well as the different market and customer options for the 2IS range ie pollen/carbon/deodorant/particle filters.

If you want a pollen filter instead to match your noted 87139-07010 OEM part number, here's an even cheaper aftermarket option listed as compatible with late model Camry/Corolla/Yaris/RAV4

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Cabin-Pollen-Filter-Toyota-Camry-Corolla-Yaris-RAV4-/260787708757?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cb828a355

Regardless, I linked to an aftermarket filter marketed by FSA Australia as an alternative for the IS250 with part number CA-1112 which also happens to be the part for a late model LandCruiser available through a reseller at a substantial saving over OEM.

A far as suitability is concerned, it is exactly the same size as the OEM one, of identical material and construction and fit was perfect taking no more than 5 minutes to replace when I did it recently.

In considering how dirty the replaced OEM one was, I will be inspecting and replacing it a lot more frequently as well.

I just replaced my filter with the FSA one (part number CA-1112) for a cost of $25 - fits OK, but my only comment is that it has very few folds of the filter paper compared to the original one which was replaced.

Manny, the eBay link you posted looks closer to the real thing (no. of folds and their closeness) - and the part numbers match as well - maybe I'll try that next time.

Make sure to follow the step re turning on the recic mode.

Step 1 - Turn on the re-circulation mode

Before you start replacing the air filter, it's crucial to make sure your car is on re-circulation mode. Failing to do so can result in thousands of dollars worth of damage, as the computer control damper will be forced open, ultimately damaging the vehicle's HVAC system. To do this, simply press the "re-circulation" button or mode.
