How good is the condition of your car?

Since it is a '91, it probably makes sense to do some preventive maintance, like having an engine flush and if your car is shifting slowly, perhaps a ATF flush.

Also, some fuel system cleaner, like Caltex Techron or 3M would be good.

After doing all of this your car should perform like new!

Then you can start modding, like lowering your car a little bit, adding a new air filter (or even an entire intak).

Bottom end of the rev range is hardest-

most power increases add on to the top end.

So, intake more than exhaust system. A custom free-flow system with a biiiigggg air filter. When running twin SU carbs on Datsuns we used to cut the flange off the air filter cover, weld extensions on the bolts and put two air filters on, one on top of the other. Instantly twice the filter area and half the 'drag' on air going in.

Of course, these days there is always the NOS button...:lol:

Of course in those days 'lowering' was cutting one coil off the springs with a disc grinder. A quick one inch down and away you go! <_<

Matt,

I wouldnt say my bugdet is limitless but I can save.

Right now I wouldnt complain to spending upto 2K.

Cheers for the welcome, this is easliy one of the best sites Ive been to and the only I have joined which must be testament to that.

And I am very interested in your Filter if you can tell me for certain it will fit?

Alex,

I have had the car fully looked over and anything slightly amiss changed.

The auto, engine, brakes shocks.

Regarding the suspension, nobody down here (Dunners) knows jack.

Im told to lower my airbag equiped machine I would need to move the height sensors to 'fool' the car into thinking it was higher than it really is.

A horrendous job for cost and difficulty BUT PLEASE TELL ME THEY ARE WRONG!!

Tim,

Check out the UK site, as they have lots of info on mods, and you can get questions intelligently answered. I don't know how the height sensors work, that's a new one to me.

Matt, is that HKS filter a 'pod' system that sits out by itself, or does it fit inside the standard plastic housing?

The filter is a pan filter, it fits all 2JZ-GE (GTE) and 3S-GE cars....From what samuel said it does imporve hp and shifting feel.....$2000 is good.....get something decent like a intake and exhaust combo......

Good news Tim with a little knowhow you can lower your UZZ31 or (Active Suspension) UZZ32 at home for free. Yes thats :D FREE :D if you have confidence in yourself of cause. It would take to long for me to type in out so you think i am a genius instead ill let you go to the link that has pics and details on how you can lower your TEMS equiped Soarer. Dont forget to get a wheel alignment done afterwards which this link also supplies a good set for you. If you dont want to do it yourself print it out and take it to your local car fixit dude that you trust and get him to do it, therefore you will save $$$ by not paying him to scratch his head. Also think about fitting an aftermarket height controller as well for those extra big hurdles so you car doesnt belly out.

Heres your Link.

Oh and once you have saved on the Lowering, Spend your cash on a Supercharger then you will have all your low down power. I would suggest getting all your fluids changed for a little safety also. Read up on this link and think blower.

Hey Tim:

I m getting my car tuned tomorrow at Lexus Of North Shore...1 thing you should do is get your car tuned, so it performs like new like Alex Said...from the look of your ride I assume its got s decent audio system and wheels already, so nothing much you can do, keep your ride clean and just do dome engine and suspension mod....Like Sway / Strcut Bars...A Intake/Air Filter or even a Exhaust...A Filter and exhausr usually adds 15-20 hp at the wheel and struct bar will make your car turn better..If I have $200 to spend......this is what i will do...

-Performance Filter / Intake System

-Stuct / Sway bars for better turn

-Exhausr System...(If you are not a fan for exhaus maybe you can try to spend more money on performance chip and get some bigger wheels)

Just a advice and opinion, afterall you own your Soarer....

Matt :)

Hey Matt sorry but i know nothing about the meet. Where and when are the Q's and ill see if its a good day to have a sicky at work. Cough cough sniff sniff :P

Just so you dont get your hopes up.

<---- this is not my car. Boo hoo hoo i wish it was tho. :( I am working on getting the new Racing Hart CR's in 18/8 front and 18/9 rear. I havent decided if ill go with the Gun Metalic or the Gold??? which i havent seen yet. The wheels will use up my money for a while cause if i buy something for my car i have to buy something for my gf to keep her happy too. Oh how i am lucky how she doesnt know the amount i really spend on my loving spounge.

A pic of my car will be there soon so the above comment may be void.

I finally got a pic of my car on my pc so here it is. Yes the wheels have been pasted over the current ones cause i am waiting for them to arrive, if all goes well it should be another 6-8 weeks. I just wanted to see what it would look like.

I live in the south (Dunedin).

Thanks for the link to the lowering guide, Ive used to good effect lowering the front 15mm and the rear 17mm.

It sounds conservative which it is but I wanted to be on safe side to start,

its going back to mt local next week to go further, Probably another 20-30mm.

I took a photo before and will after Im happy, so Ill post them and you can have a geeze.

The boys I had do it dumped it right down as far as poss, it looked like a boat, a mean undrivable boat.

Ill get a photo of that aswell.

Supercharging is a Champion idea, its going to take me a many a month to get through all the info.

so many options.

I would like a subtle blower, one that doesnt require a bonnet mound.

We will see

Its a pleasure to help Tim.

I would suggest keeping your current height and adding an aftermarket height controller in. With that you are able to set your height inside the car. So keep your new height as the zero point and then you can go lower or higher as needed from there. Cant wait to see the before and after pics.

You should also be able to get a decent size blower under the bonnet before mods need to be made. I may be wrong as I have the JZZ30 so dont hold me on that one.

Where did you read about the aftermarket height control?

I think Ive got the principal idea behind one, but when the car was on the hoist I noticed that the car has a max and a min height dictated by the control rod. (the one I adjusted)

The amount of height adjustment looked to be set in the length of the rod not in the inflation of the airbag.

The more I think of it the more its possible,

a new sensor 'senses' the rod to be a different height?

or would it be a light/laser sensor under the car/wheel arches that is standalone from the current system?

if it was then the rods would get in the way restricting adjustment.

Who would know of such things?

the only company Ive seen advertised who specialised in airbaggies was in the big smoke.

a bit far.

I could be wrong?

I can set the height in my car from norm. to high which is why Im not to worryed about dumping it in norm, as it rises by about 2inches in high enough for most driveways

Hey thanks again for yours and everyones help, its been invaluable.

hHre is a few link. You might have to get one from Japan by the looks of it. Or if you want me to ill pop into Advanced Imports to see if the sell anything of the like and its cost?

http://www.r-spec.com/electronics/asi/asi.html

Only models No ASG61X or ASG62X will work.

This is the only Height controller that will fit a Soarer that i know of. And also in only works on the UZZ31 so yours has to be a V8.

If i come across any others ill let you know.

If you could (avanced imports) that would be champ.

It looks to be the smarter idea than simply dumping.

as a side note does it infuriate others as much as me when you have your pride and joy 'serviced' by someone only to come out with problems?

10 days ago my top tank on my radiator cracked, knowing from past experience (with a mk3 supra)

that it needs attention I took it to a specialist, radiator services.

I told them to just sort it all out and check everything.

So $388 (cash discount $360) I rolled out thinking that one less burden to have to worry about for a while.

Then roll me over and call me Britney Im on my to Uni. and the car politly tells me somethings amiss.

and not just once. yes I reset the ECU and checked the levels.

When I say 'sort it all out and check everything' I mean it.

just as well I kept the invoice.

Just a rant to release some tension.
