HI Guys,

Just doing some research for a future car update and i did try the search function without much joy so apologies if it has been covered in the past but outside of the F-Sport line of accessories is there a great deal of mods out there for the IS350? Just subtle ones that add to the driving experience like a nice cold air induction system, exhaust that backs up the grunt of the 2GR-FSE even adding a little bit more power and torque without been over bearing, Chassis bracing etc? Nothing boy racer at although!

The issue with my current car as a car enthusiast- a 08 Aurion Sportivo ZR6 is that there is not a great deal you can do to extract more engine performance from the V6, Air induction just makes noise albeit quite a sweet noise but even a dyno struggles to pick up any increases and ditto for exhaust systems. Only thing that you can make a serious and noticeable difference is to the interior, braking, handling, balance, steering and of course a few other personal touches. So my question to you guys is how have you found the IS350 (in particular the F-Sport) to live with daily, whats its upsides and downsides and what kinds of successful performance mods and other subtle mods have you been able to come up with?

wow man thats alot of Q's lol j/ks

as like any other car

modifying the car changes it's behaviour

some have found the F sport IS350 to be too stiff (older gents in the club)

though being a enthusiast i dont think you would have any problems at all

F sport suspension has great balance between comfort and performance

we had a IS350 with an F sport intake and exhaust on the dyno on dyno day and it pumped around 180kw atw

being a NA engine extracting power will be much harder than a turbo but there are gains to be had

Most of the gains will actually come from headers

Yeah that is very true. and yeah that won't be an issue as mentioned in my into post i work for Toyota so have spend some time in both the IS350 and ISF and the "firmness" of the suspension is not an issue for me - i also have Full height, damper/rebound adjustable coilovers in the ZR6 so i actually like a slightly firm ride but can appreciate it's not for everybody.

Yeah right I’m surprised it didn’t pump out closer to 190rwkw? Ok so it sounds like the D4-S version is the same as Aurion’s 2GR-FE. It too can make some half serious power if you swap the headers. One guy used the monkeywrech headers designed for use in the MR2 or various Lotuses’ when you make the engine swap, added a custom exhaust and used a CAI and scored 244kw and 420nm or more power and torque than the supercharged 2GR-FZE engine in TRD Aurion. ONLY issue is with all the o2 and other sensors hanging off the headers/cats touching any of that section just ends in a headache and dash lit up like a Christmas tree and the Aurion been the poor unloved brother to Falcon and Commodore there is next to none aftermarket support out there so you just about have to go it alone and it involves moving sensors and tricking computers and it's just really easy to get yourself in quite deep. Like i said a few guys have been successful but many haven’t and so the rest of us have just put it down as a bad joke. So that sucks that it’s much the same for the D4-S engine although it sounds like it is at least a little more responsive to air intakes and exhaust changes.

Not much you can do with is350.

If you looking for more tuning system, you should consider 335i / 135i , but the price more dearer than lexus.

well for the aurion it might be a good idea to look at some of the headers made in the US for the Camry V6

anyhow for the IS350 there a few headers and super charger kits

IS350 motor being a aluminium piston is not really friendly for highboost applications compared to the IS250

What about PPE Engineering headers ? I got this email since December 2011, then never got any update since then.

We are currently working on the RHD version of our IS350 headers. We should have something available in January or February. Until we have the part available we won't know the final cost of the headers.

Lexus of Chatswood will be our Australian distributor. You can contact Sid Cetindag at Lexus of Chatswood here: sidc@m-a-g.com.au. They will be stocking the parts and will be handling all the sales in Australia and New Zealand. They will be doing the test fitting on our RHD version, and they can do the install for you as well.

Feel free to contact Sid or myself with any other questions.

Best Regards,

Chase this up. Im interested in these headers...

I curious to any gains. Intake and exhaust got me no where (even with 2 of the 4 cats gone)

To the best of our knowledge there is no headers available designed specifically for either the US spec Camry SE V6 or our Aussie Spec GSV40R Aurion. Just a couple of headers designed for use on MR2 and Lotus and various other engine swaps or low volume sports car makers. Which are all much shorter so you have to custom build a section of the exhaust and none of them are designed with any of the sensors in mind so that’s why you have to get creative with tricking computers etc.

SO am i right in thinking that the headers for IS350 are straight bolt on gear that doesn’t require ecu piggy backs etc to stop your dash turning into a Christmas tree lol? Just been able to bolt on a nice set of instractors, cold air induction and exhaust and actually get a half decent gain without getting a headache would actually be nice!

well yeah headers are a bolt on

they also come with 02 extenders so the CEL doesnt come on

Awesome that's great to hear, appreciate your help with all this guys :)

Just a quick question lad’s, in regards to exhaust mods, have they only gone as far as the rear "Y" merge and mufflers or has anybody actually done the intermediate pipe and high flow cats?

Cheers thanks

Posted

Yeah cheers for that. No real big surprise there seems to be a 2GR thing that the only way to extract power is headers. Induction/ exhaust just sweetens the note.

I'm not even sure headers are going to do all that much. I think you will need to start opening up the engine before you get much. Porting maybe? Cams if they have any?

Even a supercharger gives like 40hp (or 40kw? can't remember). Talked to my tuner, he says by the looks of the engine design, its designed for high compression ratio, (might want to double check cause not sure if he is right) but cause of the suspected high compression ratio... turbo is a bit annoying to do.

In summary, the 350 is basically running as good as its going to get. You are better off getting a 2jz or something put in... cheaper and more power.

Posted

60hp/45kW from the supercharger kit. Not a great deal of an increase considering it's a $7000 package (minus shipping and taxes).

Compression is quite high, which is the most likely limitation for boosted setups. The pistons don't really need any holes in them :P

Best off buying an IS-F... extra 1.5L of capacity and another 100hp/75kW and a slightly lower compression ratio (10.8:1) which is still not great for high pressure forced induction.

Posted

Yup, thanks for the back up. 10k (all up) for 60hp? lol I'd rather not.

If you want the power get the GS460. Great engine... really really great. Its essentially the same engine as the IS-f minus the yamaha badge.

Posted

Totally agree that the SC is a waste of money.

I think you mean the LS600h engine is the same as the IS-F minus the cool Yamaha bits (2UR-FSE and 2UR-GSE respectively)

The GS460 us a 1UR-FE 4.6L V8.

Posted

The 5L engine in the ISF is actually the same engine as the V8 engine in the LS460, which i believe is the same engine in the GS460.

"Oh but the engine capacity is different? what the hell?" Well the IS250 engine is the same engine as the GS350. If you know what i mean :)

Posted

Same as calling a 1JZ the same as a 2JZ... almost the same, but different.

Block heights are different to give an increased capacity, but all in all, much the same.

Posted

From all my research, engine mods to an IS350 is a waste of time and money. The engine in the ISF is a much better platform for mods although a stock ISF doesn't feel that much quicker than an IS350. From memory, the supercharger kit that was released for the IS350 was discontinued some time ago due to lack of interest. Apparently its the ECU more than anything else that's hard to crack for FI.

Posted

All Toyota ECUs are locked down and no-one has ever figured out how to mod one properly without a bunch of piggyback computers or full replacement of the ECU.

I'd imagine the Lexus ones being even worse, since they are loaded with all sorts of gizmos that most Toyotas aren't, so would be doing a whole lot more.

Posted

Are there any full ECU replacements? If so, point me to it!

I imagine that is the only way to get power.
