Hi guys,

I'm very new to this Lexus forum and have spent sometime as a guest and found it to be quiet informative and useful and more than anything love the company Lexus enthusiasts and lovers.

I have a 2006/Is 250 which is scheduled for 75,000 km service. I had bought it a year ago from Lexus of sutherland and they gave me this car maintenance plan/ 3 year warranty on condition that i should have my car serviced at Lexus of Sutherland only. Now, when i enquire with them for 75,000 km service, they are quoting $750 which seems to be more . I have enquired from Lexus of parramatta(quoted $650) and Lexus of chatswood (qioted $498) and now I'm wondering whether i should get my car serviced with Sutherland to keep my 3 year warranty(of which only 2 years remaning now).

I would like to know if there are any Lexus specialists/Mechanics/work shops in sydney (Not the dealerships) who are good at work in servicing/repairing Lexus and not a rip-off/expensive like the dealership service centers.

Where do other Lexus owners in Sydney take their Lexus for servicing in Sydney/Parramatta apart from the dealership service centers. I would really appreciate your help/ inputs on this and many thanks in advance.

Thanks,

Tan

HI Chrismiass,

Thanks a ton for the reply and sharing the information of the mechanic. I would still love to hear from other Lexus owners as well. Come one,,, not all of us would like to go to the dealership for the pricey servicing/ rip offs. Please guys share info on other workshops/ mechanics who are good working with Lexus. Im sure alot of guys on the forums would like to know.

Many Thanks.

The 75 000 km scheduled service for an IS 250 requires the fuel filter to be replaced. The filter is located underneath the back seat, so accessing the filter isn't trivial. In April 2011, a member was quoted $440 by Ultra Tune, and you wouldn't get a genuine fuel filter. So, at $498 (and unchanged after a year or more), Lexus of Chatswood appears to offer excellent value.

For most services, you may find cheaper options at Ultra Tune or your local Toyota dealer - although Ultra Tune may not use genuine parts and, although Toyota is typically $50-$100 less, you won't get the usual Lexus service benefits like a courtesy car or pickup/dropoff. So, relatively speaking, the prices at the Lexus dealerships aren't the "rip offs" you think (although the high variability on 75,000 km servicing between dealers is still a mystery).

One more thing ... check that your three-year warranty is definitely one that requires you to get your car serviced at Lexus of Sutherland. Most 3-year Lexus extended warranties should not be dealer-specific; although, if the warranty was thrown in as a sweetener to the deal, perhaps it is dealer-specific after all. If so - and if Lexus of Chatswood presents the cheapest 75,000 km service with genuine parts - the question, then, is whether you should pay $252 to retain a two-year warranty? On a luxury car, I think so.

Just to put my few pennies into this discussion. When I first purchased the IS250 (from Sydney City Lexus) I was guided by the overwhelming recmmendations by others in this forum about Chatswood Lexus. I'm in the eastern suburbs and they are "across the bridge" but there's always been a loan car delivered to my door on time and as arranged. The loan car was always the equivalent of my model or better! I've not been inconvenienced or compromised.

My purchase negotiations saw me with a 5 year warranty and one of my first concerns was the portability of the warranty given that I chose to go to Chatswood Lexus for the after sale care of the car.

Sorry for the long waffle - in short I endorse Lance's comment. Check if your warranty is dealer specific and if not go where you are (financlially) better off.

My experiences with Chatswood Lexus have been nothing but good.

Hi Lexus Nerd/Ashpoint,

My warranty is dealer specific with Lexus of Sutherland/Stewart Automotive group. They gave me 3.year warranty as I bought a used lexus is250 from them. I have had other problems with them getting my car serviced ,,that's a different story. The main thing that surprised me was they quoting me $750 and chatswood quoting $498. I don't drive my car regularly and just on weekends, so If someone offers me a loan car or not is just fine withe me. Just wanted to understand how different the car would get serviced if i got it done outside the lexus dealership workshops by some other mechanic who specialize in lexus an if other lexus owners take their lexus for servicing to other places other than lexus dealership workshops.

Thanks to all for their replies,, appreciate your help guys.

want it cheaper,?

Buy your parts for the service here with me, and then supply the parts to the dealer, means you only pay for the labour... which on a service shouldn't be anymore then 2.5 hours...

Offers there dude.!

Got the following quotes a week ago.

Brighton Lexus - $938

Ultratune (Using Genuine Parts + Labour included) - $365:

Oil: Castrol Magnatec 10W30 (Same spec as lexus)

Oil Filter: Genuine Lexus

Fuel Filter: Genuine Lexus

Is the IS250 a relatively easy car to work on? Like a Toyota. Or are they as complex like its European competitors?

Hi guys,

I have been taking my is250 to my mechanic for the past 3 years and have been very happy with the work they do. They always use genuine parts unless customer requires for aftermarket parts and will always show any parts they have replaced. They work on a variety of lexus from what I have seen. They have been there for over 30 years and have very good customer service.

If interested they are at:
