  1. Did you get the throttle body clean at lexus? if so how much?? All it is is basically oven cleaner sprayed into throtle body left for ten mins and then start the car with full throttle and thats it? I had the same problem chris explained. Fuel may pay a role in this but as i only use 98+ I did the throttle body clean and happy days!! Lex51s, Would you be able to provide some instructions on how to do this ourselves? Thanks Subby
  2. THU, There are previous threads on the subject - collective wisdom that I've gathered from the more experienced forum members is that it is best to stick with Octane 95 fuel, without ethanol - have not any issues since following that advice - not sure if there is any difference in specns between CT200H and IS250 in this regard. Difference between the various fuel brands seems to be more of a personal preference. Using the same service stations can give you something to go on if you find any problems down the line. Hope this helps Subby
  3. Here is a previous thread on the subject: http://au.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=10234&st=0&p=30856&fromsearch=1entry30856 Further comments on the Yokohama Db550s : The tramlining has almost completely stopped since changing from Dunlop Sports Maxx; steering is steady and true; very nice ride and quiet..... money well spent !!
  4. Steve, I'm a recent Lexus owner so this response if from a narrow perspective. With my car, irrespective of make, I've found it pays to follow the manufacturer's recommended service intervals. Since my car is still under warranty, I'm not taking any chances and getting it serviced as recommended, and at Lexus Brighton, from where I bought it. Having said that, come September when the warranty expires, not sure what I'll do! I'm sure it will be cheaper to get it serviced elsewhere, but have no experience in this space so shall wait for my more experienced forum members to respond.
  5. No Khanny, after reading the comments and advice of my more experienced forum members, haven't gone anywhere near an Ethanol-mixed fuel pump again!!! As someone said in more colourful terms earlier, the savings are not worth the expense of possible repairs. Subby
  6. The ad says Lexus 2008-2011 - does anyone know if this will fit an IS250 2007 SL? Thanks
  7. I've been using Maguires Leather Polish and it's quite brilliant - in fact, all their products are exceptionally good - expensive, but you get what you pay for.
  8. Last month I had to get my car rear bumper repaired as a no-fault insurance job (AAMI). Got a Lexus-approved repairer (Blackburn) to quote - they didn't get the job which was done by Recreational Panels Box Hill - brilliant result - can't tell the difference. Hope this helps Subby
  9. If the additional 2 year warranty is similar to that provided by Lexus Brighton, it is only valid if you get everything (all servicing included) done by Lexus Parramatta. Check the fine print. And generally speaking, making a big noise usually gets things done !!
  10. Reading the other comments in this thread, I compared the specifications of the 2010 and 2011 models of the IS250 SL on redbook.com.au's website - there seem to be a few other nice features of the 2010 model that have been dropped as well. http://redbook.com.au/used-cars/compare.aspx?__Qpb=1&__Ns=p_Make_String|0||p_ClassificationType_String|0||p_Family_String|0||p_Year_String|1||p_SequenceNum_Int32|0&__N=2994%204294953574%204294843294&silo=1300&CT=Compare&__Nne=15&trecs=42&__sid=130C67F21AFE
  11. Don't want to start a Melbourne Vs Sydney war, but you guys seem to get the s#itty end of the stick from the Lexus dealers in Sydney!! Agree with ilv1004s - based on Parramatta Lexus' diagnosis, Chatswood should now fix the problem for free since it was originally presented to them during the warranty period.
  12. Finally replaced the tyres yesterday - got Yoko Db V550s - and ended up paying $1150 all up - fitted, balanced and wheel alignment done. First impressions - certainly smoother and much quieter than before (probably because they're new!) - braking is smoother than the Dunlops which used to grab. Cornering seems to be smoother as well and as sharp as the Dunlops - generally seems to be fine for my driving style. Haven't had a chance to really try them out in the wet yet. Let's see how they behave after a few Ks on the clock!!
  13. I just replaced my filter with the FSA one (part number CA-1112) for a cost of $25 - fits OK, but my only comment is that it has very few folds of the filter paper compared to the original one which was replaced. Manny, the eBay link you posted looks closer to the real thing (no. of folds and their closeness) - and the part numbers match as well - maybe I'll try that next time.
  14. The Air filter part no. specified by Lexus is slightly different: Check out this link: http://www.lambros.net/LexusTechInfo...SB-0031-08.pdf The part no. appears to be 87139-07010 On eBay got this link: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/5-PC-LEXUS-IS250-CABIN-FILTER-2006-2007-2008-2009-2010-/120514805188?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1c0f3dfdc4#shId If there are a couple more people in Melbourne who want this filter, I'm happy to order a set of 5 and we can share the cost - I'll keep 2. PM me if you're interested Subby
  15. No problem, Melchel - and thanks for the link - that looks like a handy one to know for the future! Subby
  16. Melchel, Can understand why you asked the forum about this! Lexus spare costs $77, fitted costs approx $125-140. Hope you've had some luck elsewhere!! Subby
  17. I'm getting my 60K service done tomorrow at Lexus Brighton - shall ask around and get back to you. Subby
  18. By "cabin filter" do you mean the aircon filter that is accessed through the glove box? If so, can't it be cleaned? (Instructions are in the manual) Or is it way past the cleaning stage?!! Have you tried eBay? Subby
  19. Yes, it was worth shopping around - for anyone interested in the Yoko Advan Sport V103, CarLink Auto were the cheapest by a mile - got their offer from eBay - $215 each for the 225s and $250 each for the 245s, delivered. They don't stock V550s, unfortunately :-( :-( However, since I really wanted quieter tyres, I've ordered Yoko Db V550s and the cheapest I could find were the Tyre Professionals in Sunshine - $1180 for the set, balanced, fitted and all-wheel alignment done. Getting them fitted next week - shall keep you all posted. Subby
  20. I suppose a lot depends on what you value more - lower premiums or hassle-free claims. I'm insured with AAMI and their processes and customer service are quite terrific - and reasonably competitive as well. To give you an idea of costs, for an insured agreed value of $52K on my IS250 SL (2007), my premium was $1004, with an excess of $645...and this covers the windscreen as well. This is for a Rating 1 driver, with more than one car insured with AAMI. Having said this, am about to find out how the latest repairs go - the job did not go to a "Lexus recommended repairer" - for a minor scruff on the rear bumper. Will update later. Hope this helps Subby
  21. Since I'm happy with the handling of my car with its current tyre sizes, I'll probably stick with 225s and 245s. Results of further research: Bob Jane T-mart - recommend Yokohama db V103 - quote over the phone was: 225s are $320 and 245s are $380 each, fitted and balanced. - did not give much of a rap to the Hankook Ventus V12 evo - 225s are $255 and 245s are $310 each. - suggested Kumho as an alternative - similar price to Hankook, but I didn't get any other details. Lexus Brighton - recommend Yokohama or Michelin and avoid Pirelli - not sure about which models. Tirerack.com - quoted Hankook Ventus V12 evo - 225s @ US $99 and 245s @ US $100 each - freight etc US $266 delivered to my place (Melbourne). According to Tirerack's website, Yokohama Advan Sport looks very similar to the Yokohama db V103 in terms of tread pattern, so I'm assuming they're the same tyre - 225s are US $183 and 245s are US $188 - I presume freight costs would be much the same. Any comments on the Yokohamas would be appreciated. And point noted about rim protection - I've managed to get some curb rash despite the rim protection on the Dunlops!!
  22. Need new tyres for my 2007 IS250 SL - currently have OEM 225/45/R17 front and 245/45/R17 rear tyres (Dunlop Sports Maxx). I'm looking for replacements which are quieter, more comfortable and provide just as good handling in wet or dry conditions, in that order. I want to retain the 17" wheels but am open to the idea of slightly different tyre sizes to achieve the above. Have gone through earlier threads but haven't got a clear picture of which tyres in these sizes have been tried and found to be good. General research through tirerack.com etc has thrown up Hankook Ventus V12 evo as a good option. Would be interested in the views of more experienced forum members, especially on the following: 1. Is it better to stick with 225/45/R17 in front or would it be better to switch to 235/45/R17? 2. Which tyres to go for - brand and model? Thanks Subby
  23. Thanks for this, Lex51S - very useful to know and looks quite easy to follow - with your photos. Subby
  24. Definitely not a "normal" sound - have you got an answer to IronFist's question - does the sound speed up when you rev the engine? I'd escalate this ASAP.
