  1. I know that the GS 300X is basically a tactic to sell all the current GS models left to make room for the recently announced update. Does that mean we are to expect a vastly different IS sometime soon?
  2. That seems to be the favourite. Unfortunately it's a little out of my reach (I'm in Southern Sydney) Was that a relatively expensive option? Mine's still under factory warranty too. Is there any way I could get a replacement under warranty? I'm a bit disappointed they failed to do anything about it at my last service, but perhaps the problem isn't one that can be seen with just a visual inspection. Like you and other members have told me, the standard Lexus pads/discs seemed to be the cause of the noise, even if it looks like they are in good condition (as i was told after my last service) For me I did it myself. I'm a bit of a home mechanic. It was ~$400ish for all parts. I got quoted for $700+ from Lexus. I know the dealers got to make money but the upmark is unjustified IMO. My setup is * DBA front rotors * Bendix GCT Ceramic Most of the Sydney people who seen my car it's pretty bone stock but I reckon it's fit for my purpose. If your after the same feel but a little better than stock (Not much) then the combination above suits it really well. Obviously if your a modest driver in peak hour traffic like me it works well. I have no complains 15K+ later. Plus 85% less dusty wheels!! My car has been to Lexus and they didn't say anything. I've always been a bit hesitant when it comes to replacing parts with non-genuine/aftermarket parts. I've only had my IS250 for a few months so perhaps that's why. But like I said, i'd much prefer to have the problem fixed with parts replaced by Lexus under warranty (as i believe it should be) than to replace them with other parts.
  3. In most cases it is, indecently. My sister got an exemption for her 1.4T golf without any resistance (admittedly it was on the moderate power turbo list, so they are generally accepted), but i know of people having exemptions on V8's and turbo 6's on the grounds that it was the only car available to them. Another of my friends was driving a V8 M3 for a month because he had a full exemption as he was a yardie. He didn't get pulled over or questioned once. But as our friend said, only 3 months of the restrictions left for him so it's not too much of a concern, me on the other hand...
  4. "i wonder if he will let me get stuck into it???" Most probably. " also whats the padle shifting like and jerking or anything," There's no jerking, at all, ever. And that's in my 250. I know the 350 will have a LOT more acceleration but like all Lexus' it comes very smoothly, and then you realise you're going quite fast... Although on the paddle shift, it isn't really a true semi automatic (or manumatic, if you want to get all technical). It only restrics the maximum gear the maximum gear the car will use. So for example if you put it in 4, it will use 1-4 depending on how fast you're going. So it's not the same as what you get in BMW's but to be honest will work just as well. Overtaking is effortless, downshifting down takes an instant and then you're off. It's also very very handy for engine braking down hills when the car in front rides the brakes the whole way down.
  5. Thanks mate, hope you get a better response than i did. Seeing as this has been such a common problem (even on MY10's) then I don't think I'm being absurd by suggesting it should come under a warranty issue? Anyway we'll see what they say. Which service centre do you use?

  7. Isn't the sti liberty turbocharged? good luck getting an exemption first, and then keeping it. How much longer are you on your p's for? IS350 is more powerful, has more torque and legal for a p-plater to drive....silly rta.... Legal, for now. It would be an expensive purchase if RTA added it to their presently out-of-date list of restricted vehicles. It's an expensive purchase either way... But I'm sure if one was to purchase it before the RTA added it to their list (and could prove it) then they couldn't be banned from driving it. My brother got his P's two days before they introduced the turbo/super/V>6 rule back in '05 and was able to drive anything legally.

  9. Thanks. I have an '08 build MY09 model (with the August '08 update). I got the car in April from a Lexus dealer after it had been traded in after 25000kms. So i'm not certain what has been done previous to my ownership. But the service book shows it had been serviced by Lexus in that first ownership so I doubt it would have had any inferior parts used. However seeing as it has been a known issue, it makes me even more concerned when I think that when i brought up the squeal with the guy who picked up my car for a 30k service back in June, all i got told on return was that it had 80% of the pads left. So i'm guessing either the service mechanics weren't aware? or just didn't bother checking any further? But it being Lexus i'm finding a half-assed job a bit hard to believe.. Would it be worth a call to the service centre for any advice they can give?
  10. Maybe, but i was noticing it yesterday after a 40 minute 15km drive at about midday, after id done the same drive in the opposite direction that morning. i don't think the brakes would have been cold when i noticed the squeal.
  11. Checked my discs this morning, doesn't appear to be abnormally shiny (on the outside face)
  12. I have noticed a fair bit of brake dust, but as this is my first car i didn't think it was that excessive. Plus i heard that the IS pads tended to cause a lot of dust so i didn't really think too much of it. When i had my service back in June, i brought up the issue of the squeal. They just gave me the car back and said i had 80% of the pads left and that was it.
  13. hmm doesn't sound right to me.. standard pads shouldn't squeal, especially on a Lexus. was than an independent mechanic?
  14. I've noticed recently that when I come to stop at lights my brakes squeal pretty loudly, is getting really annoying and pretty embarrassing too. Only really happens < 15km/h ish, plus also when in reverse. At my last service (June) i brought it up and was told that i apparently still had 80% left on the pads.. can anyone offer any help? I only have 30 000k's on the clock so it shouldn't be a rotor issue?
  15. I believe that's in the service book or manual.. but thanks anyway mate.
  16. Well that's news to me.. good thing I'm not looking at upgrading haha.
  17. Also known as a 168 - if that helps. As above, install is pretty fiddly but not too difficult. Just make sure the globes you get will fit through the hole where the parkers stick out.
  18. You wouldn't be the only one here tackling the HSC this month. Good luck in your exams! Cheers mate
  19. Hi mate Seeing as you have the 2010 model without the DRL's, that would mean you have the prestige model, which means you don't have HID? Best place for the parts: http://is.sewellparts.com/accessories-catalog/Exterior/IS250-2008/2411.html Unfortunately, you've asked a question that many many others have already asked - and faced with the same answer. Yes, it's possible. Worth it? No.. Some have just put LED strips in, but in my opinion it just looks a little tacky. Personally, I have replaced my parking lights with LED's and leave them on all the time. Looks so much better and will only set you back about $15 on eBay.
  20. Bloody HSC.. i've had the 250 since April and have been wanting to come along for the first time, guess I'll still have to wait. Have a good one fellas.
  21. I rang Lexus about this a while ago, they actually outsource the job to a guy who comes around in his van.. I was quoted around $700 for that. I'm happy to do the install myself (apparently not too difficult, you might want to think about it - i know a few members on here could give you some good advice). So my only problem is whether to use the Vais product (~$200) or the GROM unit (~$130). I want to know if there is in fact any appreciable difference between the two, if there is so far I can't find it.
  22. I have been very interested in getting an iPod integration unit in my '08 MY09 IS250 - from what I have gathered (from this and other forums) most lexus owners who have integrated have used the Vais Soundlinq SL2i, but i have also come across the GROM unit too. I understand that Vais is designed specifically for lexus and toyota, but from what I can tell the GROM unit does almost exactly the same thing - at around $100 cheaper. Has anyone had any experience/advice with either that they are willing to share? Thanks.
