2013 IS350 F Sport front rotor wear

I recently had my 30k service (car had 32k on the clock). I was quite surprised that I needed both front pads and rotors replaced. I have never heard of rotors only lasting as long as 1 set of pads. Lexus tells me it is normal for that car (is350 f sport). Anyone else had the same experience?

I have owned the car since new. Late 2013 build bought in June 2014.

Can't comment about anything Lexus specific as I'm still new to the brand...but 30000 on rotors does sound a bit low

do you do a lot of city driving? 

depending on how you do stop/starts in traffic it can wear out the brakes much faster.

Don't do much city driving but a bit of stop start into work before getting onto the freeway. I am not actually concerned about the pads wearing - that is expected. However, I just cannot believe the discs/rotors also needed to be replaced. ie I have never heard of rotors only lasting 1 set of pads?

Dinesh - notice you have an IS-F (nice!). Do you recall replacing front rotors and how many km's?

Which dealer is this it sounds like a money grab, do the brakes shudder measure the thickness of the disc's just put new pads in IS 350 rotors should last for a lot longer than 30000km's

Unfortunately already had the work done. It was Brighton Lexus. I was getting a scraping sound at low speeds but no shudder. They told me rotors were near unroadworthy so just got it done. I put is a complaint to Lexus Customer care and they also came back and said 'it was normal'.  Time to write a letter I think. Love the car but have to say has left the 'pursuit of perfection' a little wanting in my mind...

I'm just going to do my first replacement around 55K. Though the dealer was surprised that this was my first rotor change - most get changed around 40k is what he told me. 

But I don't do any city miles, mostly long drives and fast sweeping turns. The rotors on ISF cost a fair bit though - and from the dealership it's a rip off 2.5 just for fronts. i'm getting mine from the US now.

Mine discs were gone before 20,000km... I'm still using them however.

Bear in mind, "gone" refers to the whopping 1mm of wear the factory allows for before requiring disc replacement.

After that 1mm is gone, the disc does not wear nearly as quickly and I'm only just about to replace them at 75,000km where they are really at a point that can be called "worn".

Bought our IS 250 with 32,000 km.   At this time I measured the front discs at 26.4mm.    Measured recently at 46,000km and now 26.2mm   Still within the factory wear limit (25 - 28mm)

quick pad change a machine would have been fine

iv heard alot of dealers getting owners to change their pads and rotors

my mate got his My14 IS350 F sport pads changed and rotors machined @ 20K kms and cost him 550

Thanks all for your replies. I managed to get more details. The front rotors apparently start at 30mm and they are considered unroadworthy at 27mm. Mine were 27.45mm hence the recommendation to change. I did lodge a customer complaint given just 30,000km. Let's just say in Lexus Customer Service style they are looking after me re the rotors. It appears that although dealers say this is 'normal' wear, that customers are not taking it further and complaining so according to head office there is no issue. Always good to let them know if you are not happy.
